Here's my take on the game.

We did what we were supposed to do and won with a qb that pretty much played on 1 leg. He wasn't srambling and he wasn't going to move around well in the pocket and he wasn't going to throw on the run. Ozen knew this and game planned around it. Were lucky that our running game came to play. Wer were gashing them with the run early, but when Ozen made adjustments, that slowed us down and caused us to punt a few times. Imo, deja vu from last week. We never made and adjustment to the adjustment. Fortunately, Ozen didn't have enough horses to make us pay. With this type of coaching, we'll lose to PN-G. I'm still waiting on the plan b.

Ozen's problem is their o-line. They can't run block or pass block. The plays from their playmakers on offense, Randle and Tyler, has to make plays on their own. NOW, Boyd is also a playmaker, but I question his decision making abilities an it appears that passes are only thrown to one receiver.

Also, I heard that a starter that was injured, a senior, was available to play on the o-line for Ozen last night. You figure with the o-line issues that Ozen has, they'd play him, but that kid remained on the sidelines. I dont know what that was about, but to increase your chances of winning, you bring the kid in.

All and all, Ozen and Central has lots of improvement to make, and there is a lot of time to do it. Ozen will face another good team in PN-G that will have them dig deep amd Central has Vidor that will give us an opportunity to work on our run defense, which imo, is one of our weaknesses.

Btw, the game inside the game was insane. Congrats to the Sally Curtis elementary cheerleaders for the performance and the Central and Ozen band, flag girls, and dancers for one of the best halftimes and postgame battles that I've seen in years.

Big Ticket 409 / That's a very good question. However, in my opinion the Pear Orchard and Hebert Alumni supporters were spoiled by Hebert winning State Championships in 1959, 1966 and 1976.

Coach Clifton Ozen and Alex Durley both had an overall winning percentage of 85 %. The Panthers were in the playoffs nearly every season under both these great men. Advancing three to four rounds deep. Including several Semi-Final rounds.

Panther Pride was special to the Pear Orchard Community back then. It meant something to wear Blue and Gold on Friday nights, knowing that the scoreboard would reflect another Panther victory at the conclusion of most contest. Faculty and Staff became accustomed to winning, most of them lived in the community and would make their presence know with various chats. One in particular that rubbed off on everyone was Mrs. Rose Williams shouting out loud. (CALLING ON THE DEFENSE !!! ) That became part of her Hebert Legacy. One that Hebert Alumni Panthers will forever remember and still chat during our Mass Reunions.

It's safe to say, most individuals from the Pear Orchard Community aren't use to having a losing football season. This mentality unfortunately, has created some fair weather fans. Typically, in the past if Ozen advances to post season play. I have personally observed a huge presence from the Panther community and Hebert Alumni at this games. Including during Ozen Basketball Playoff games !

However, it shouldn't be this way. Some, have lost sight of the true picture and focus. It's all about supporting the kids. Therefore, I am challenging the Pear Orchard and Hebert Alumni Community to get behind these kids beginning Friday night against the Central Jags and continue to support them Win or Lose. (DON'T BE A FAIR WEATHER FAN ! )

Hebert's motto is Whatever Hebert Does It Must Be The Best !!!  Panthers, let's not say it words, but live that motto and show these young Panthers true Team and School Spirit.

GO OZEN PANTHERS ! LET'S SHOW SOME PANTHER PRIDE AGAINST THE JAGS !!!

As far as Friday's game....I think we're gonna see one heck of a game. I think Central will start fast, but Ozen will adjust. They're scrappy and the worst thing that could've happened for Central was the WAY Ozen won last week. They learned what it means to never give up...how to be aggressive until they get what they want. They won't be afraid of the Jags. If anything, they'll have to calm down from the adrenaline rush and the trash talking. This is that game where being sensitive and easily offended goes out the window for 60minutes. These kids do NOT want to lose to each other.

The oringinal Soul Bowl Games were played between Beaumont Hebert and Charlton Pollard. They will forever be imitated, but never duplicated !!!

Those where the days, when both teams, bands and dancers left it all on the field. Panthers Coach Clifton J. Ozen and Bulldog Coach Willie Ray Smith Sr prepared their teams for battle at South Park Greenie Stadium until the game out grew it's capacity.

Then the games were moved to Lamar Cardinal Stadium and played before sell out crowds of 20,000 plus

Former Athletes, Students, Teachers etc would travel far and near to support their respective teams. However,it's sad to say, you don't see that kind of support for most teams locally anymore.

With that being said, let's pack the Carol A "Butch" Thomas Educational Support Center Friday night and show the Ozen Panthers and Central Jaguars some love as the 2-1 district foes battle it out on the field.

Good Luck to both teams !!!

    Go Ozen Panthers !!!

    Hebert Panther Alumnus !!!

You have keen eye Fox & I don't dispute what you are saying. I Agree Vidor outplayed us for most of the game. As for as # 25 for Ozen, he is on pace for nearly 90-100 tackles & around 6-700 yds rushing. He won't come off the field because I Trained him for this. 6am 2 -a- days ain't no Joke. My workouts are intense & provide results. #43 & #10 are on the program as well. Hard work pays off
    Go Panthers!!!

Congrats to Ozen on the win. Win cures all. Practice is a little better, you feel better about yourself. I really feel that now, if you finish the season like you should finish it, the Pear Orchard little brothers, you will find yourself in the playoffs.

Thanks Yeoj, he made us so proud. Rodney will Graduate with Honors. That means more to him than any athletic accomplishment. I'm so grateful God has allowed us to be a part of his maturity. Sports pales in comparison to his Excellence in Education. Through it All, Ozen is producing very productive students; Others Beaumont Schools also

Great job by the Nederland defense in the 2nd half holding Central to ZERO points! Way to make adjustments at half.

I have to say it,  adjustments, adjustments, adjustments.   The defense showed they had a pair of big gold ones in shutting out Central in the second half.

Ozen has to put the Nederland game behind them and make adjustments offensively. Also, they have to stop beating themselves with turnovers and poor Special Team play.

Coach Suggs and his staff has to correct these things in a hurry or they will be spectators for post season play.
The Vidor game unofficially begins their playoff season.

    Win or Stay Home !!!

Great win WB !!! Congrats on being the Beaumont Bowl Winners.

Ozen, just simply keep fighting. Offensively, you guys hurt yourselves with penalties and turnovers. Defensively, too much arm tackling, which resulted in a few injuries and easy TD's. Hopefully, all the Ozen players, that were injured tonight, will make a speedy recovery.

Question for the Ozen staff: Why are you not playing a Cover 2 ? There is absolutely no help over the top, your Db's play to far off the line of scrimmage. A single deep safety isn't cutting it. Passing teams are going to have a field day and dare you to stop them. JMO !

Well stated, give these young men from Ozen some credit. WB didn't give them anything, they earned those 21 points. Just as their opponent did, they didn't quit against PAM & certainly played harder last night. With a few adjustments and minimizing their mistakes, they will get better. Anyone, that has gone through the adversity the Panthers have experienced. Especially, with multiple head coaches within the past year would understand. Hold your heads up Panthers a change will come.

If they could have hung 50 they would have. I agree Ozen has a lot of work to do, but since we're talking "if's" what if Ozen didn't have so many TO's to give WB scoring opportunities. I've said it many times, given the circumstances surrounding Ozen not many Teams would have much success. Not to mention the tough preseason schedule they play. Not making excuses, just stating the obvious.

WB allowed 21 points, however Ozen turned the ball over twice inside WB 20 yard line, when they clearly should have scored another 14 points in the first half against their first team defense.

Boyd and offense showed lots of great character and determination. Just, simply too many turnovers. You're not going to win like that. Hopefully, they will correct those mistakes before district starts.
