    No and example why:
A 60 year old couple retires and moves to a community.  They have no kids in the district, but they must pay school taxes.  These taxes are a responsibility of the entire community, not just those who have kids attending the school.
and I would like to add this.....
No. Home school kids should not be allowed to play due to fact they are not there to go through to tough athletic period where the teams success is built.

So you're ok with a kid not being held to the same behavior standard?  Behaving in a classroom/lunch/hallway setting pulls a lot of weight when it comes to whether or not a kid is allowed to take part in athletics.  Conforming to school policy is something that shouldn't be allowed to be avoided if you're taking part in a school athletics program.

Again we are talking about "student-athletes". If you are not a student at that school, you are not a "student -athlete" representing that school.
If you want to put your kid in a sports organization, that's wonderful, but home school kids should not be playing for the public school.
If you are not enrolled in a school as a student, you should not be allowed to play for that school. That seems like a reasonable concept.

As much as it might have all of us scratching our heads, to the person that really counts, Greg Neece, it makes perfect sense.  One of the perks of doing the football previews is the chance to interact with the coaches about their programs.  I can assure all of you that there are few coaches who professed as much pride in their program as Coach Neece.  But something changed.....we don't know what and as much as some think they have the timetable down, we don't know when.  Chances are good that we will never know.  But that change inside of Greg Neece brought him to realize that he could no longer give his all as the athletic director of Kirbyville ISD and as head coach of the Kirbyville High School football team.  Coming to that realization, he did the most compassionate thing that he could have done for the kids of the program....he stepped aside.
Of course, the move to a quarterback coach position at another school is quite curious. However, let's look at a couple of things.
Now what I am about to say is not is not intended to be a slight of the Kirbyville football program, or athletic program for that matter.  It is an excellent program with a very enthusiastic fan base (I am probably going to get a reminder of how enthusiastic pretty soon).  However, if you would canvass coaches outside of this area to take a look at the Kirbyville program and the Newton program, I wager that many more than we think would not view it as a backward move to leave the head coaching position at Kirbyville, an excellent program known well here in the area, to take an assistant's position at Newton, an excellent program that has some state wide prestige.
Even for those that do view it as a "backward" step, we can't assume that every coach will follow the same pattern of ambition.  What prompted Bob Westerberg last spring to leave Allen where he has reached what many would consider the pinnacle of coaching in Texas, multiple 6A Division I State Championships, for Barbers Hill, whose last state championship appearance was just over 40 years ago?  What prompted Larry Neumann, who told the Port Arthur News in September that loved coaching and that he had no intention of retiring, to, without a public word, file retirement papers with the Nederland ISD at the end of the year?  We think that we may have the windows into these coaches' hearts and souls, but we don't.
Coach Neece, while we will always wonder as to your reasons why, good luck in your new position in Newton.

it may not be 40,000 pay cut, but I would bet it is at least 20,000.  But if money mattered to teachers and coaches, they probably would not be teachers and coaches.

STUDENT-athlete. That individual would not be considered a "student" at the school, shouldn't be able to play.

My opinion, if the parents made that decision to home school them, then those same parents decided for there kid to not participate in school extracurricular activities.

Small towns can turn into a soap opera over things like this. Few years ago Henderson ran off a coach that was 95-45 with four ten win seasons. Too many folks believe they are a big fish when they are really just in a small pond.

My reference to the first Championship is talking about in basketball since that is the event being covered. Just like the PA announcer in the Dome said "this is Silsbee's first State Championship." This is the normal way of reporting it. Just like saying West Orange-Stark won their fourth state title when covering football. The school has many more than 4 overall.
Now if someone out there said this is Silsbee's first state championship of any kind that's of course incorrect.
Think of it this way, when Clemson won the national title it was said the Tigers have their second national championship! In reality it's the university's fifth. But no one is talking about their golf and soccer titles when football is being covered.

I did the same,  But it is when I realized that the live broadcast of the game nor the weekend was much better.  Particularly, I had a real problem with the color guy for the game (Colt McCoy's dad) and the constant mistakes he made not only as to WO-S players, but Sweetwter as well.  For the game, Jack Dallas, maybe all of 5'10" (and that is generous) miraculously grew to NFL tight end size, prompting McCoy to call him "Dallas Clark" through the entirety of the game.  When, we wanted to give credit to the WO-S line, I didn't hear names like "Ryan Ragsdale", "Paul Ivory" and the like.  No, he went on to call out the name of the Sweetwater linemen.  But perhaps his biggest guffaw, which he ultimately had to acknowledge after what appeared to be a torrent of texts to his phone, was incorrectly stating the name of the Sweetwater coach who lead them to the SC in 1985.
Of course, the bigger travesty of the weekend was the Highland Park/Temple SC game.  Look, I love Jerry Jones.  He is the owner of my favorite NFL team.  However, that does not mean that I want to see a shot of him in the stands every 5 seconds.  Heck, he doesn't get that much air time when his team plays.  It is a good thing that John Steven Jones played quarterback for the Scots or he might have risked being the first player in high school football championship history to get less air time than his grandfather.  In this game as well as the resulting medal ceremony, the UIL and Fox Sports Southwest made donkeys of themselves.
And then finally to my ALLTIME, FAVORITE Fox Sports Southwest personality, Ric "If It Ain't in DFDub, I Really Don't Care About It" Renner.  Mr. Renner, who for some god foresaken reason, has been deemed appropriate to anchor the pregame, halftime and postgames of these games, did his dead level best to let the viewing public (presumably from all parts of the state) how many SC's the "DFDub" has accumulated.  Yeah, I know Ric, it is 3, you said it enough to where anyone who devoted any portion of time to the weekend knows that.
I may just seem like a guy from Southeast Texas bitching and moaning, but to me it appears that the UIL and Fox Sports Southwest have morphed the UIL State Football Championships into the "DFW Invitational" where only a select few from outside the area are graced with the opportunity to participate.  It is truly disappointing and the even more disappointing part is that it will not get better, but indeed worse.

I don't see it as bragging, but rather an interesting fact from a highly successful season.  Yes we all know that it would not happen, but interesting none the less.  It also goes to the point of emphasis that Coach T and his staff place on all 3 phases of the game and the ability they have to score at any point and time.

WOS had a very dry spell by their standards when Thompson left the first time, this was under the Hooks reign.  Make no mistake, Thompson has been the reason for their dominance the past 30 plus years.

prefer games in Houston...hate Dallas roads and traffic...AT&T stadium is nicer of course, but you'll never convince me that it does not give an advantage to DFW teams having it there every year....games should be rotated between Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio...jmo

Now see...some of you guys force me to be the jerk.  It's not that I enjoy it...but someone has to be realistic.

WOS.  VERY good football team.  No question that they are the best team in this area and more than likely the best team in all of 4A.  No doubt the best team in 4A D2...but probably the entire classification.  Does that mean that they would win the whole thing if classifications were still the same? Possibly.  We'll never know.
I even think they could give Aledo a good game.  Does that mean they would make it thru the 5A playoffs to the title game? NO.  It does not.  WOS hasn't had to play a single game this year where they've had to keep their starters in for an entire game.  Including the playoffs.  It's a little bit different when every week is a dog fight.
Now making this list is an enormous honor.  It means that their season has not gone overlooked by national standards.  And definitely, won't be forgotten.
But making this list does not mean they are on the same level as 5A and 6A competition.  I mean...come on.
