So, no talk about how HJ ran the score up, 74-29? C'mon guys! You should have put Nash, LAZEEK, & POPPA in the game. There is just no excuse >:(
If the other team is incapable of scoring (aka 2nd quarter) are you supposed to just hold the ball for an entire half?
he's been reading the Forum or somebody blabbing to him :D
I simply told him that he could not afford to ignore all of the "knowledge" on this board and he needed to abandon the dunks and replace with the mid rangers.
Since I am an avid poker player and consider poker a "skill" game, Nash I'll just assume your analogy regarding the ace and deuce is not considered the "luck of the draw". ;) But you know, your comments of late sure look as though you think that win was a lucky one. ;) ;D
Yes, I understand poker is a skill game but there also is some good fortune involved whether you wish to acknowledge or not. I wouldnt say I could call the Silsbee victory a lucky one, but I think I can say that the combination of HJ shooting 35% from the free throw line, Silsbee shooting 35% as a TEAM from three point range, and the last second shot was most definitely an ACE and not likely repeatable. If I am wrong, my theory will soon be disproven when they play at HJ. Yes, I understand you would like me to say the games outcome was lucky thus enabling you to declare "sour grapes". However, if you check some of my other posts, there is nothing in them that would lead an unbiased reader with no relationship to either community to come to that conclusion. Am I disappointed that HJ lost? No doubt about it. Is there anything I can do about it? Obviously not. Do I think they will win the rematch? Yes (but, of course, I thought they would win the first one also) I played poker as a young man (didnt know much about it) but played in a group that had three very smart players and another average player who had lots of resources and his approach was to simply stay in every hand. He did pretty well with that approach.

It "can". But you "can" die of a heart attack before you go home today also. Would you care to put some of your hard earned dollars behind that suggestion?

Shawn Prudhomme.....Is he the BEST in SETX this year?

And, maybe then, the most valuable player on one team such as HF is actually better than the best player on HJ or Silsbee? -

Thankfully (for some area schools) there is no high schooL RPI ranking. ;) Hey wait a minute, Even Nash could appreciate this small business opportunity. We could make a killing ranking those schools in their non-district strength schedule rankings. Our business venture would even give credit to those teams who lose a bunch of its games. But still get credit for playing against good teams. And an extra credit if lost at home.
Dove- Perhaps you can enlighten me on this. From your perspective, Silsbee played a far tougher schedule which makes them much better prepared to play the good teams. HJ has played nobody and, as a result, their record doesnt mean much. And yet, in the HJ-Silsbee game on Silsbees HOME COURT, with Silsbee shooting 35% as a TEAM from 3 point range, and the Hawks shooting 35% from the charity stripe, it takes a last second buzzer beater for Silsbee to win. If your contention is true about schedules, you are either going to have to admit that HJ schedule does NOT mean they are not a top notch team OR that Silsbee isn't that good because, by virtue of the HJ schedule, they barely escaped an average team.
Not at all. Syracuse's coach by his own admission played a weak schedule and they are #1. But from what I heard Silsbee had an 18 point lead at one time. Probably due to their tougher schedule, it sounds like they were man-handling HJ at one time. Probably due to their tough mental state of mind from a tough schedule. I can only assume that Silsbee let up off the gas after 18 points and allowed HJ back in the game. But thats how basketball bounces sometimes ;) Hmmmm- How convenient- Silsbee was responsible for their big run but the one HJ put together to come back was not a credit to HJ? If that tough mental state is what got the job done, why was that mental toughness not there when they got down 27-14? Why was it not there when they gave up an 18 point lead. If you are correct about this "superior mental toughness" is it safe to say that they will have an even easier victory at HJ as they are bound to be "sky high" going into the game while the HJ squad has had their "bubble busted"? While I did not get the official numbers, it looks to me, from a scorecard standpoint, that "that mental toughness" was present only for 1 quarter out of 4. I know how good and appealing all of that blarney sounds, but there are no facts to support/prove it. Did Florida States blowout of North Carolina come from that "mental edge/ superior schedule" or did Florida State simply pull an ace from the deck while NC pulled a deuce? Wanna bet on the odds of that ACE DEUCE repeating itself?
Why Not A Shot Clock In High School
stevenash replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
My reasons is I hate watching 4 corners for an entire quarter. 2nd reason for me is a well coached team can can be taught to defend an offense, just say the flex offense. But if you have to guard the flex or any other offense for that matter usually u can only guard it for so long. I believe it would make the game better. To me it wouldn't just be about Johnny and joes now, cause a good coach only has to teach his team to guard an offense for 45 seconds to a min. Sorta like football defensive backs, u give a qb all day, he will find someone, so even I the dback defended perfect, if offense has all day then it takes away from some coaching. Just my opinion.
I would agree with you at the college and pro level but in high school where things are anything but equal, I think the stall needs to remain in the quiver of the less talented. -
I would need some good people(The power behind the throne) so to speak....to help me launch this project,,,,nash, could you get Dove to help? With the three os us nothing could stop us.... ;D
While I am too old and feeble for such a huge responsibility, the Dove is a vibrant and energetic non partisan man who would compliment you perfectly. I would, however, be willling to function as a technology advisor to the hierarchy.
I agree with Nash. Do you think Sutherland would have put HJ in the YMBL if he knew his team was going to be this good. 27-1 0-1 is better than 37-1 coming home in the playoffs. With 3A being so loaded it is going to be a heck of a challenge for Silsbee or HJ to get to state.
You said a mouthful there. I am fairly familiar with all of the possible playoff scenarios and it is going to be a great accomplishment for either or both to make it to Huntsville. This region is LOADED.

Shawn Prudhomme.....Is he the BEST in SETX this year?
stevenash replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Basketball knowledge. Being explosive is great, and gets the fans pumped. But as far as basketball skills, Shawn does not have all of the skills it takes to be considered the best. IMO OF COURSE, and I respect your opinion, but there is more to basketball then just being explosive and being a great rebounder. Not taking anything from Shawn because he is very explosove and I would love to see him make it all the way. But as of right now, he is not better than smith from Central or Holmes from Silsbee
Plenty of people have basketball knowledge so dont get the idea that you "know something" that somebody else doesnt. So far, you have offered only words. You have offered nothing concrete that separates Holmes from Prudhomme. Yes there is more to being a great basketball player than being explosive and a great rebounder just as there is more to being a great basketball player than being fast. Perhaps you ought to gather up the two aformentioned players stats for the season and also for just the last game and make your case based on that. Or, better yet, go ask someone in the program at Lamar or SFA or even Sam Houston and get their opinion. -
Very possible. I think we will get to either confirm or re-evaulate that theory in a couple of weeks. But I still maintain that if HJ had played Dallas Kimball and Silsbee had played Starks, Louisiana instead of Kimball, the outcome of the Silsbee-HJ game would have been the same.

No doubt about that. Except that I was responding to the prior post which listed a record of 27-1 as opposed to the district record.

Which is, without a doubt, the best record in the Triangle.
