Jumping the gun a bit but wondering if there could be a Carthage Bellville meeting.  Liberty Hill knocked Carthage out a number of years ago but they had figured out that formation when they met Kennedale and their two 1000 yard rushers a few years back.  

Carthage is starting a number of sophomores, including the qb.  Kilgore is a stout 4A-D1.

You sure do enjoy belittling Carthage.  You never miss an opportunity.  I can't say I remember a Carthage fan returning the favor.

I certainly enjoy discussion from teams we might face down the road.  My personal interest would be a WOS, Silsbee, Jasper, PG, Gilmer, Carthage discussion.  Some chatter from central Texas teams would be fun too.  I apologize that I can't add a lot myself but I am interested in what others have to say.  Thanks for your reply.

My opinion is that Carthage's success is a combination of factors.  Reynolds was a good coach but not a great coach.  The athletes were there but he didn't have the ability/desire to do what it takes to do what Surratt has done.  Surratt has said he wanted to go to Carthage because he had seen there was talent there when he was coaching in Texarkana.  So you have the athletes that are normally coming through a small east Texas town and now you get a coach that is very intelligent and is obsessive/compulsive with his work.  Throw in a highly competitive personality and you have a combination of factors that give you some pretty good odds.  His intelligence and knowledge of sports has allowed him to come up with some strategies that have proved to be ahead of the time.  He obviously has the personality to work with people, especially kids.  It's just kinda the perfect storm for the opposition.  Take a highly intelligent person that is a perfectionist and you will usually see some success.

Defense will need serious discipline.  There is a learning curve.  Hopefully PNG has played against this formation before.  Carthage tried to schedule one in preseason if there was a chance the formation might come up in the playoffs.

Larry Allen.  He makes a honest mistake when  his eyes fail him occasionally but kgas has been lucky to have him all these years.  You won’t hear him accuse the refs or the other team of dishonesty or stuff like that like some others do.
