1.
Many of a good teachers have or are letting let go of area school districts. i feel horrible for the new teacher that has loans and no job .
I feel for so many of the new teachers too & for the kids just graduating & looking for jobs. It's a sad time in education, & the students will suffer.  I heard that a lot if districts are cutting coaches especially. I guess this is really a new topic--sorry. I just had to agree with Beechnut.
2.
As schools find money getting tighter I think you will see what some districts do as some districts in other states are are doing.  That is pay to play.  Here is just one article I found on this. [Hidden Content] I have some friends in Illinois that had to pay $150.00 a year for their boys to play football and $100.00 a year for them to play baseball and that was several years ago.
But, what about the kids without $$. I've heard about pay-to-play, but how are poor students able to play?  Guess I'd better do some research on that.
3. Donald, When I was a classroom teacher, I thought we placed too much emphasis on sports, had too many coaches, &, most of all, had too many kids missing classes for sporting events. However, I also saw that many athletes worked harder during their sports seasons in order to remain eligible. I saw that almost every coach invested a crazy amount of time in preparation & execution of their coaching assignments, & that they invested time & interest in their players, much more so than most regular classroom teachers. Now, I never got over the amount of classtime that students & coaches miss. And, I see today's budget crisis as an opportunity to truly make sports extracurricular, i.e., after school & on Saturdays.  I don't, however, want to see an end to high school sports, just curtail tournaments & track meets held during school hours & limiting the number of days students, not just athletes, can miss class. As for coaches & the classes they teach, well during this crisis, they may have to limit the number of athletics periodS to which they're assigned to one or, in worst case scenarios, none--with athletics being truly extracurricular & after school. But, I think this should be temporary, as coaches already devote inordinate amounts of time away from their families. I'd like to see at least one athletic class preserved, but in lieu of 35-40 kids @ class, the coach should teach an academic class or devote part of an athletic period to tutoring kids left behind because of the large class sizes.
4.
At the half, the Hamshire-Fannett leads Tarkington, 35-14.
Ok, I change my prediction...shouldn't comment on that which I have no knowledge.
5. Just to make it interesting, I'll say Tarkington by 5.
6. Good game.  South won 31-29, but North had their chances right til the end.  Can't believe the weather held--expected rain but was breezy and sunny. Huffman DB had a good game, one interception and almost a second.  Strake Jesuit D lineman was a beast!
7. No surprise...they were thinking of discontinuting testing because so few tested positive anyway.
8.
Weak game.
Grad is right. Many players who are signed & delivered don't play, but to call it "a weak game" is unfair.  It's as strong as this type game can be. And it gives some kids a chance to showcase themselves. It's a shame the SE Tx coaches had their game the same day. Are you sure it's the same day this year?
9. ...a good idea!  What ages are you considering?  Day camp?  Summer or weekend?  I agree that to get info to coaches/ADs is the best way to promote your camp.
10.
If they ever get a voucher system then they are in and no getting them out. JMO
That's true.
11. "High school sports is about the town and the home grown talent. I agree Fanatic. Private schools do recruit, & for that reason, should not integrate with UIL-sanctioned schools. To speak to the concern that some public schools recruit--  I'm from a school not renown for football, & I would not point fingers at successful programs. Kids, often encouraged by their parents, move to schools with winning programs so that the athlete can be noticed by scouts/coaches who frequent winning programs' games. And, let's face it; everyone wants to be a winner. However, as FF pointed out, playing for one's home team is special.
12.
Merry Christmas! nice of Santa to drop the morning temp out here to 19 degrees with a wind chill of 8!  >:( ;D
Now I remember a good reason to live in SE TX. Merry Christmas to all!
13. Man, how did they lose that many students in a year?  But classification won't be based on this year's enrollment. Maybe several hundred students will move back.  :)
14. IMO, Gray was most impressive of backs in State championships.
15. Scotty, beam me up.....
;)  Phone home.  I know I know, I'm mixing movies/tv shows.
16. BTW Scooter, just where is the dividing line between E Tx and W Tx?  Some posters keep talking about the Trinity River...or does the line move relative to who's playing?  Just wondering...
17.
Can't read the article but I believe they should use a 3 year rotation between the Alamodome in San Antonio, Reliant in Houston and Texas in Dallas.  All will be in doors so not affected by the weather and in different parts of the state each year.
You got my vote, not that it, by itself, counts for anything, but letting UIL know that there's a lot of support for a rotation might.
18. Watching that play was surreal--I couldn't believe my eyes--had to see it over and over.  I bet poor Trinity never wants to look at it again.  Dang, that was good!
19. Heart. Pearland had Heart!  IMO, Trinity outmanned Pearland, just rolled, but the Oilers's found strength & " want to" when they needed it. And yes, the trick play was phenomenal!  ET was out-coached IMHO. Great game, as was the 5A Div II game. I wasn't sure about the central site, but the TV coverage was nice. I just hope they move it around, not just keep it in Dallas. Nice end to a great season of FB. Heart!!!
20. Grad, your hard work & the work of all the folks you mentioned is appreciated. From checking area scores to the pick-em game to making an occasional comment, I thank you all for making this possible.
21.
No more speculation needed now, they should be out and about pretty soon right? Congrats to all the team for representing 22-3a and especially Coldspring for their trip to State and dismissing the silly rumor that 22-3a is a weak district.   8) 8) Tough loss, but you guys were one of the two teams playing in it and that in itself is a great achievement.  ;)
Except for Coldspring and Huffman (and maybe Liberty at season's end), we were a weak district this year.  Look at how CS and HH ran all over everyone else, and many times could have scored even more.  A huge congratulations goes to Coldspring!  Their prospects look good next year too, but we'll see about the rest of us.
22.
Or shortly thereafter. Window for time to apply not long.
Then, most likely administration already has someone in mind.
23. Congrats Carthage--the very real deal!  Congrats to CS for making it there, but the Dogs were just too much.  Carthage QB was the difference, along with CS mistakes.
24. Who published stats on the Carthage/Brownwood game last night?  I saw the CS stats in the Chronicle this morning, and 400+ yds rushing is pretty phenomenal against Wimberly.  Even more, holding Wimberly to less than 160 yds total!  CS is real, and I know Carthage is too because they've proven that the last couple of years.  Should be a real title game!
