2. Is PickEm Week 9 down now?  I couldn't find it in pages 1-3, but it is getting late.  I'll check tomorrow.
 3. The team with the biggest heart will win. No way Tarkington should have won last year, but they wanted it bad enough. Splendora will be loaded for bear so the Horns better dig deeper than they've been doing. Good luck to both teams! I'll keep rooting for the underdog to find the heart to win. Hook em Horns!
 4. Good luck to both teams!  Newton in a close one--28-21.
 5. I gotta say that Liberty is putting it together, getting stronger by the week, and I don't see that improvement with Cleveland.  I would've said the Panthers had no chance against the Indians at the beginning of the season, but not now.  Liberty will take this week's game and the third play-off spot.  Congrats again to the Panthers!

Hmph. Odd  :P
;) Didn't say you made an earlier prediction...just going off what GoCoogs posted.

 8.
Tarkington showed signs of life in their last game against Liberty but continued to shoot themselves in the foot on both sides of the ball. I think they pull it together this week and get some revenge on the pirates from last year. TARKINGTON-30 shepherd-24
Tarkington hasn't put 30 points on the board since Hardin.  I think we better hope Shepherd doesn't score 24.

 11. It's Tarkington's homecoming, but Shepherd ruined that last year.  However, Shepherd is not the same team this year.  Tarkington has to get mentally ready, so I'm rooting for the underdog to pull it together and win.

 13. If we look at how Liberty & Splendora played against common opponents, I’ve got to go with Splendora.  Against Huntington, Splendora won 34-23 while Liberty lost 54-28, and against Huffman, both lost.  But, Splendora’s point spread was 39 while Liberty’s was 49.  So even though Splendora is 1-2 in district play and Liberty is 2-1, I’m going with Splendora—plus, Liberty still has to play Coldspring and Cleveland—tougher schedule hence.
 14. I sorry to see that Cleveland has not turned around their bad start.  Despite Huffman's explosive offense, I don't think they will scored as much as Coldsprings did against Cleveland, but I pick Huffman by 2 TDs.
 15. Nature vs. Nurture, the age-old argument.  Some people seem to born with leadership qualities that positively infect others, thus mental toughness can be contagious or "learned."  Good coaches are one example.  So, mental toughness can be innate or learned; however, I lean to the learned side.
 16.
Vela was the announcer at the Jr. high game on Thurs. night but did not announce the Varsity game. The Varsity announcer has a script that he follows based on the time. School songs at a certain time, Moment of silence at a certain time, and National Anthem at a certain time, all timed out so that the coin toss and kickoff can start as close to 7:30 as possible. Most coaches know this and have their team on the field. As far as the two mile hike from the dressing room, Splendora's dressing room was the same distance. Huffman Coaches knew the distance from the dressing room because they were on the field warming up before 6:00. I know the bus did not drop the team off at the gate. [/quote Wasn't there though, so can't judge, and I'm sure what you say is true, but most host teams wait on the visitors.  Unless Huffman was more than 5 minutes late, going ahead with the National Anthem was in poor taste.
 17.

I wouldn't cout Shepherd out, they had to hardest schedule to stat district off, As i see it, IF they win out then they will be in the thick of things, Splendora is in the drivers seat but they can't slip up any, Shepherd played both Coldsprings and Huffman already and Liberty has only played Huffman and Splendora has only played Coldspring, Cleveland still has both of those teams to go, so that would put them with 3 losses at a min. If Shepherd wins out they would have 3 losses as well Liberty has to win out also but I can't see them getting by Cleveland and the game with Shepherd will be close, and if Splendora wins out then they will only have two. So it is up in the air right now, but this week will go a long way in seeing who will get that 3rd spot. If Shepherd looses then they are done for the year as well as Liberty, So let's see who steps up and gets it done, Cleveland, Liberty, Splendora or Shepherd.
Good post with correct information, this week sets the stage for a lot of things and it is going to be exciting to see what happens.  Go Shepherd!!
I agree that Shepherd's pre-season was not easy, but Cleveland's was tougher...but I'm not sure Cleveland can turn themselves around.
