1.

can someone explain why most of the state championships in football and baseball come from central, west or northeast texas. and a majority of the D1 talent comes from east texas.
The majority of D1 talent comes from Houston and Dallas.
This is a true statement, especially Metro Houston &/or the. D/FW Metroplex.
 2. Most 3A schools don't have enough coaches/teaching units to allow multiple athletic periods, especially after budget cuts this year, and many don't have the facilities to split up into multiple sports during one period. It's a mute question at many 3A schools.
 3.

How about the two baytown schools losing BH , Dayton and Crosby to travel to galveston, pearland, friendswood, texas city and santa fe.  Talk about some late night travels!  All three baytown schools are getting hosed. Sterling was about 200 kids shy of moving to 4a while lee had room for 500-600 more kids while staying 4a. Doesnt make sense.
REL was the southern most school in the current 19-4A alignment. The UIL looked to replace Manvel and there was REL as the "best" fit geographicaly. GCM must go where REL goes. In two years the only thing that would change that is if GCM has 5A numbers (or possibly RSS has 4A numbers. Not happening). The UIL has said you cannot have 3 classifications in a school district. SO, even if REL drops to 3A numbers, GCM must have some growth or RSS must drop in enrollment. If not, REL will have to play 4A with 3A numbers.
I noticed that Houston ISD has schools in 5A, 4A and 3A.  I was surprised to see that.
 4. I can't remember who Gray committed to--Texas?
 5. Good run at State. Congrats on another great season Trojans!  SE TX is proud of you.
 6.
im not at the game but as live as you can get lol  im on the phone with someone there
:)
 7. I hope someone who is there or still getting the feed will update this thread. Dang, I wish I could have gone... Sounds like a really good game.
 8.

Coach James Sykes (Cleveland ISD) is not Jerrell Sykes' daddy. I think Coach Sykes is Jerrell's uncle. Jerrell's dad was a great athlete too. I don't think Alfred Scott and Pharnell (sp?) Scott are closely related; however, they may be.
That's correct...James Sykes is Jerrell's uncle...Gerald Sykes is Jerrell's dad and James brother...Gerald is the guy in Coldspring that has run the youth football and basketball leagues for years...James played college ball at Rice and then was drafted by Washington Redskins and ended up being a allstar in the CFL... Not sure about Alfred Scott and James Scott (Pharnell)...I'll have to ask about that...I don't think they are, however, I wouldn't be surprised if they were somehow as it seems as if everyone is related to someone in Coldspring.. :) Colton Monroe is another kid on the team with NFL and CFL ties...His grandfather (the late Jimmy Edwards) was a OU signee out of high school in Oklahoma before transferring out and being a All American at Louisiana Monroe....His grandfather was MVP of CFL (same award Doug Flutie & Warren Moon won) and I believe led the NFC in kickoff return yards one year in late 70's with the Minnesota Vikings.... Then you have Gilbert whose brother is a great player for OSU right now and as I've heard several times is the fastest player on their campus... Those are some of the connections that I know of...Heck there might be a few more that I haven't heard about but it's not bad for a little 3a school out in the woods... ;)
Not bad at all & it helps explain why CS has had good or great teams over the years.
 9.
Last Year Coldspring played Wimberly at Baylor. This year if Wimberly wins it will be Friday at Wller Highs School. If Devine winsitwill be at Bastrop Memorial (not sure on day).
Where's Wiler?
 10.
I figured who ever win 22-3a would win a state title...I think I figured right
CS has to get by another opponent to get to the championship game, but after seeing these guys play tonight, you just might be right.  I'm really glad their offense came alive again tonight.  Good luck to the Trojans!
 11. Congratulations to Coldspring on their victory, and to WOS for a hard-fought game.  Good sportmen/women on this board tonight!
 12. Game as advertised so far except more offense than expected. Two questionable calls from where I'm sitting. Wish we had replay sometimes.
 13. Great sportsmanlike posts skipper, kicker, Socrates, & KvilleKats. It was time for folks to quit beating their chests & take a deep breath. I'm wishing for an injury-free game, & I expect a hard fought but clean game from these two good football programs. I'll see you all in the stands Friday night!
 14. Dang, Ryker is asking a lot of good questions that people in the know are not answering.  Ryker, the only one I feel competent enough to post on is the coaching edge.  I think Thompson is filling big shoes pretty well, but Barbay is more experienced and has State Championship game experience, which logically gives him the edge.  This Friday will tell.  I have to retrack to say that I was not overly impressed with Barbay's coaching at last year's title game, but Carthage was head and shoulders above CS last year.
 15.

Im still trying to decide which band wagon to get on?
who am i kidding? LOL  I already know
What? Is this going to become east of the Trinity River vs west?
 16.

Cs has played a lot better opponents in the playoffs than wos has. Just like wos played better opponents in the regular season and struggled while cs rolled.
Agree with you FF
 17. In Humble! Whoop! IMO this will bs a defensive gem. Can't wait!  14-13 CS.
 18. Your story reflects what's best in you & your teammates, as well as what's best in your & all of our communities in SE TX. Thanks for posting & for the break in the trash talking. You remind us what the game is all about:  learning sometimes painful life lessons and persevering.  Good luck young man!
 19. I, for one, have been surprised by the lack of explosive offense by Coldspring.  I know that there have been injuries and illnesses with O players.  It makes me wonder how deep CS is and how solid their O line is.  After all, this is a new O line this year, used to playing inferior teams in district (with the exception of Huffman).  I hope they are learning each week and becoming stronger.  I know that defense wins championships, but you've got to score points.  I support you CS as the representative of 22 3-A.  I hope everyone is healthy and that you have a great game Friday night!
 20. Am I not right?  In Texas if a student is charged with a felony, the superintendent is notified by local law enforcement agencies, and the student goes to DAEP, therefore not allowed to participate in extracurriculuar activities.
 21. So, it may be east of the Trinity vs the west in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping WOC & Coldspring meet...will be the game of the week on this forum.
 22.
So what happened to the Romans?
They became Italians
Now that's funny!!!

I wouldn't have given EC a shot at this early in the season, but these kids play smart and play with such heart.  Their continued progress has made me a believer, and I believe they found a new coach who may be as good as Taylor.  Go Bucs!
Taylor as in coach Taylor of the 70's and 80's ? Just asking.
Sorry, I was living in the past.  I meant Evans, not Taylor.  Thanks for correcting me.
