Hate the 4 teams advancing particularly in districts that have 6 teams or less. Heck, if this starts next season, then 4 of the 5 teams in 20-3A (Carthage, Center, Diboll, Huntington and Jasper) will advance to playoffs. That's ridiculous!! Also saw where they will be voting on limiting basketball and baseball to 2 tourneys (not 3) and 21 total games played before playoffs. Do not like that and not sure coaches will like that as well.
Does it really save that much money by cutting out a tournament?  I don't get the UIL
It does keep athletes in class. They miss too much instruction time already. It seems that, for most sports, the UIL's proposed changes gave opportunities to make up the tournament with matches scheduled for times outside the school day. As a teacher, I HATE that spring sports pull so many kids out of class for so many days. I do agree with the sentiments expressed on this thread about 4 teams going to playoffs. It is ridiculous for 4 teams out of 5 or 6 teams to make the playoffs.

 3. Liberty would have to improve greatly to compete with Cleveland. I haven't seen signs of that, so my prediction is Cleveland 35, Liberty 14.

 5. Special posts about Coach Barbay springing from a EC fan. Minus the Kat fight, this thread is full of respectful posts from both teams. [Applaud]
 6. Both are improved teams this year--when not playing teams like Coldspring. It should be a good game. I say Tarkington will find their offense this week and win 21-19.
 7. I don't think Huffman will score 50+ on Cleveland's defense, so I'll say Huffman 35 Cleveland 17.

 9. Cleveland was fast. Tarkington could not run with them at all. Cleveland's defense is good, speed the difference. Congratulations to the Indians.
 10. As with most young teams, Tarkington's play has been inconsistent, but improving weekly. I don't know if they will beat Cleveland, but I expect a competitive game and I expect more victories this year. Someone said they would go 3-3 in district, which is a realistic expectation. We'll see which column this week's game goes into on Friday night. One difference observed this year at Tarkington is that these guys believe they can win, even if they are behind, and there's always a chance they will. Cleveland has good athletes and coaches, and I think they have the best chance of being the third or perhaps the second place team in district this year, but you never know. That's why we play the games on Friday night.

Does anyone know which one it was? By the way both are named Sam Houston.
I believe it was a school out of Lake Charles LA. Houston Sam Houston
I No, it was Houston Tech, Houston ISD, used to be called Sam Houston.
 12. Here's some interesting scores from this year. Mind you match-ups are more important, but Cleveland beat Washington 31-14. Houston Tech beat Washington 24-19 and Tarkington beat Houston Tech 35-14. These scores make this Friday night's game sound competitive. Maybe it won't be, but maybe it will.

 14. I smell an upset.  Tarkington can win this game if they jump into the lead like they did last weekend.  I agree that Cleveland has a good defense, but Tarkington's defense isn't shabby either.  I predict Tarkington 12, Cleveland 10.
 15. I say Splendora 20, Liberty 7.  I don't think Liberty is there yet, but I hope both teams play well and make it a competitive game.

We will still beat Tarkington.  Hopefully we can squeak by Splendora without Mosley and Jones.  Let them rest until after Huffman because of the bye the following week.  We aren't beating Huffman anyways.  Then take care of business against Cleveland, which will be tough, and we can possibly squeak into the 3rd spot.
You are way off if you think Liberty gest an automatic "W" against Tarkington. Splendora and Cleveland are out of the question. Liberty will likely have to beat Shepherd to avoid 0-10. Tarkington is at least as good as HF. The QB, RB, and WR for Tarkington are outstanding, especially the QB.
Let Liberty stay over-confident.  From reading all the smack between Huffman fans and Liberty fans, I'd say that's pretty common.
 17.
Warren has been a great story so far, but Newton should beat them pretty convincingly.
What Happy said.

I see Diboll running up the score on Shepherd tonight.. & that's bad.
Ouch. I don't really see it as a upset. Maybe a small one? Shepherd always plays diboll close even when diboll has been a much better team. and this years team just keeps getting better week in and week out. They may give coldspring a scare, who knows?? Proud of those Pirates.
Your right, Shepherd does always seem to give Diboll fits. Not to take anything away from your victory tonight, but I do not think Shepherd or Diboll is on the same level as Coldspring right now. Of course anything could happen in high school football, but I believe the Pirates have a long ways to go before they are ready to take down the Trojans. Good luck the rest of the season!!
Hey, after the LCM loss and the rollercoaster play of CS this last few weeks, anything is possible.  Yes, CS should roll over everyone in district except Huffman, and I now see Huffman's chances of beating CS rising.  But, if I had to bet, my money would still be on CS.
 19. I think Kountze should win, but Hardin's pretty scrappy.  Better heed Sport's advice about not overlooking the Hornets.
We played jr high games at Dyer. But it's bigger, nicer than Tarkington's field.
