So this is what it's come to in Nederland.  A losing season is considered successful.
Unless you win a State championship, we all lose the last one.
Not true.  Ozen won their last game.
Grabing a playoff spot and hung tough in the game...  To me, making the playoffss is an accomplishment...
If Central had gone 5-6 this season and lost in the first round of the playoffs to a team with a losing record, would you say Central had a successful season?  I didn't think so.  My point is that 5-6 IS considered successful for Nederland now.
I think Coach Neumann knows a little more about football than you so let's leave the play calling to him and his OC.
 5.
Ok for all the folks that make predictions every week let's look at it so far. Livingston had too much speed and they would have 40 points by half time - didn't happen. Central again too much speed they were going to kill the Dogs - again didn't happen. The defense gets better every week, the young Dogs are growing up and baddog may have to give up his handle! The offense is starting to get their legs under them. They are starting to make things happen. When they needed a drive at the end of the game last week to close out the game the line opened a huge hole and Sonnier not being one to stand around and wait for a better offer took it 45 yards. It may not look pretty but the Dogs take this one.
That's one way to look at it.  Another way is to say that picking against Nederland has been the right call 5 times this season and the wrong call only 3 times.  As for the defense getting better, it's hard to tell.  Nederland did hold Lumberton to only 17 points last week but LCM shutout Lumberton and even PNG held them to 14 points.  And I don't see anyone saying LCM and PNG have strong defenses this season.  Having said all this, I'm going with the Dogs 35 - 21.

I think I'll leave that up here to see what kindof controversy I can start :D
Kelly joined District 38-4A????
 7.
There have been questions asked about the young man from Nederland and I've heard both sides of that story. IMO, he didn't get a fair chance. But, they are always going to look harder at scholarship players compared to walk-ons.
What would you have considered a "fair chance"?  i don't know all the details but wasn't he allowed to walk-on?

Alabama is in their first year of football and they had enough time to get prepared for LU.
First things first, So Bama played a season last year, albeit it wasn't against major schools.. They still played games. They also have 15 Major D1 school transfers. Not making excuses for Lamar, but they have a year more than Lamar under their belt. Give them time. I haven't seen one game, only going off recaps and talking to my friends that are on the team. But I do know about the close loss to McNeese at their place, beating SELA at their place, winning their home opener and home coming game. Those are 4 things to be greatly excited about.. Not to mention a second year for the players, coaches, new facilities, etc... Keep supporting them. Without support they will go no where.
I agree.  Go Cards!

 10. Looks like Port Arthur Thomas Jefferson's own Todd Dodge is going to be available soon - if you're looking for a new head coach or OC.
 11. I agree with slsblab.  I think the offenses are too multi-dimensional for the defenses to stop consistently.  For instance, PNG has a great passing game while also being able to run it down your throat.  Even Ozen has a dynamic offense with a quarterback who can pass and run.  Nederland can move the ball with Forney passing or run it with #9 out of the wildcat.  Central showed against Nederland that they have a passing attack to go with their strong running game.  LCM has a great offense with their fast QB and WRs.  These are 4A teams who only have so many quality athletes and it seems that everyone in 20-4A is putting their athletes on the offensive side of the ball.  At least this season.
 12.
I recall a Sonnier catch that he fumbled out of bounds after securing the ball and running 3 steps and it was called incomplete. Replay on ya'lls video board showed it and the crowd for LCM went crazy.  ;D But in the 70's and 80's it was called Mid- County magic LCM and WOS both have to many stories to tell  them all here! :D
And all visiting teams get a fair shake at WOS too.
 13.
PNG White 31-0 over OF. OF is a really good team, I think they were more physical then any team we have faced this year including WOS. My hats off to OF, if you get the offense going ya'll could cause some noise.
OK, I'll play along.  Since OF is a really good team and since PNG White beat that really good team 31 - 0, PNG White must be amazing!

One other observation. I thought that the Central players who were involved in the Homecoming activities at half time may have had some distractions or maybe disadvantages by not being in the field house to hear all of the half time adjustments, etc.
That's the dumbest specticle I've seen in 30 years of watching/playing football.  There would be no way in heck I'd have anybody from the team participating in homecoming.  I was saying that the whole second half, Central would lose based on that and a big fat F for the stupid play calling in the 2nd half....
You know a lot of footbal SFA and usually have pretty insightful comments on the game itself.  Realizing that what you're saying about the playcalling and halftime festivities is on target... give me something about the game?  What did you see from the kids on the field who battled it out?  Give us your game notes... and we've already got your thoughts on the playcalling.  You don't have to defend your prediction that the game would be more like the 63-0 arse whippin, hey based on the previous games from both teams, that may have been a reasonable thought on your part... but now you've seen both teams, give us the real scoop.
Whenever Central ran the ball between the tackles, they were more consistant.  #15 showed signs of wearing down so they should've stuck with #21.  Everytime Central tries to be cute on offense, the struggle.  Nederland is 2-5 for a reason and it's their inablitily to stop the run going on 8 seasons......
Is that you Smitty???
 16.
The soccer stadium that is.  The soccer team played Texas State to a 1-1 tie in front of a record crowd of 562.  I'm not much of a soccer fan but it's good to see them playing good this year and drawing good crowds. [Hidden Content]
Just to clarify for those who haven't been to the new soccer complex at Lamar - the complex is plenty big enough.  They just need to add another set of bleachers for more seating.  Just wanting to point out that what's needed isn't some expensive expansion project.
 17. Where did this come from? Raiders lose BIG to LCM and PNG and then pull this out of their hat!
 18.
Good game bruins..we shut their pass game down. NS went into the half and made some big adjustmens we had a hole on the right side of our def.... Didn't expect that but overall them bruins played their heart out.. Good game NS...
Now there's a "glass half-full" guy for ya.
 19. Hang in there Pirates!  You're still in the thick of the playoff hunt.
 20. 4 turnovers and still came out on top.  Wow.  Jags must have really wanted it tonight.
 21.
I personally don't see the loser being out of the hunt. I can see 2 or more teams with 3-4 records bucking for the last playoff spot in this district. With that being said, the loser better win out or their staying home.
Whoever loses this game ain't going to the playoffs.
All I am saying is that a kid from K-Vill, PNG, Newton, EC, that is use to winning might not be able to handel lossing at Lamar.
What makes you think Lamar is going to have a losing program?  By the way, LU has a fewer losses this year than PNG.
