I am a parent with concern with these boys having to practice when it is so HOT!!!! I think that they shouldn't practice until about 6:30 til 8:30 if they are going to practice in the evening time. They practice in the mornings already.... We are under a sever heat advisory now and they are going out there to practice..... Come On..  ???
Give me a break...Hill guy is right here. Stay hydrated...they will be fine.
Two high school football players died in Georgia this week.  One definitely blamed on the heat.
 2.
I've seen the new big kid in action. He looks good, will be a great asset to the team, esp after losing so much size from last year. I don't think Nederland will miss a beat this season.
I hope you're right but I'll be very and pleasantly surprised if Nederland doesn't "miss a beat" next season.
 3. Honest question - why does Nederland need a new football stadium?  Obviously the existing stadium is not as nice as PNG's but doesn't it serve its purpose?
 4. Port Arthur is full of brand new schools and yet no one is beating down the door to move to there.
 5. Just curious.  Opponents of the last bond, which was overwhelmingly defeated, were accused of not supporting the kids and being against NISD.  But now it's OK to oppose a bond if you don't personally like it.  I don't understand the difference.
 6. If I'm following this right, Ned & PNG (boys) are the only two definitely in.  For Vidor to get in, they need to win and then have either LCM or Central win and the other lose.  Is this right???
 7.
Also, I may be wrong but I think the money to pay teachers cannot come out of a bond, that money comes from another entity. May want to do some research on that also. I dont think any money spent on extra curricular activities for school kids is ever a waste of money. How much will a $25,000,000 bond make your taxes go up? I'm guessing $10 per year?
$10 per year if you live in a cardboard box maybe.
 8. A lot riding on these three games Friday.  A case could be made for each game going either way.  Going to be interesting.
 9.

These are just a few things i find wrong about this years all disrict selections: (1) How come the entire Ozen starting 5 makes the list , but the 14-0 Ditrict Champs Nederland  only get 3 !?!?!? (2) Speaking of Ozen, how does a kid(Green) get 1st team  even though he doesnt play the entire second half of district. 2nd team at best, he aint no senior. (3) Since we r on the Ozen topic still,  Ieans (Defensive Player of The Year)......Really?!?  This kid couldnt hold his own against any post in this district and this ditrict aint known anymore for good post play. (only Nederland had some) (4)To the Vidor(supposedly gonna win district with that great 19-0 start) Story, this team finishes in the rock bottom of this district and gets 2 kids in the 1st team. Williamson is a great player and kid, but his numbers were way down from previous years....so i say second team at best. Mancebo was the real threat for vidor, so i do give credit for putting him 1st team. (5) Even dang Central got more picks than Nederland, Central cant even win a playoff game. Go figure that one out? (6)Livingston now, they get 3 (sophmore) picks, heck nederland cant even get more picks than a team that didnt make the playoffs. We can agree that Zach English(soph) is a better player than 2 of those kids. (7)Too many under classmen on this list, u gotta give it to kids that this is there last chance at making it then the juniors come up and so on and so forth. Like, Mike Mitchell  (2nd team) or  Josh Wagner (Defensive MVP) Wagner shut down a lot of good guards this year.
First of all, I commend you for some good points.  At the same time, you have some extremely silly points here.  First of all, This is about awards based on players.  Nederland was a great all around team.  Nederland had a few really good players that carried this team...  (Forney, Smith, Cunningham, and Mitchell).  The rest of the players (with the exception of the Freshman) would not start on any of the other 3 playoff teams. Central had stud players.  Maybe not a good 'team' or good coaching, but great players.  Ozen had Ieans. You talk as if he wasn't a good defensive player, but I bet my check he led this district in blocked shots or altered shots.  He's the tallest kid in district and always gets his hands on shots or layups.  Ozen also had a team full of playmakers.  Another thing while I remember.  Central and Ozen had players on their team that can create their own shot, making them good.  Whereas PN-G had Doty that could do this, Central and Ozen had plenty.  Ozen's Green did miss a lot of games, but he is on the top tier of good players in this district.  I think it was good that he was on the list.
Where were Central's "stud" players when they played Nederland?
 10.
Well, now I'm confused.  Coach Neumann hired Coach English, but he doesn't want him to be successful?  That makes no sense.  And since he's been around, the baseball team has turned into a powerhouse (how long, btw, has he been AD.... I honestly don't know). And the comment about dictatorship, you will always ruffle feathers when you call the shots.  You got to come up with something more solid than "he's raised some hackles because of his dictatorship".  I'm sure Patton and Eisenhower managed to piss people off.......
Neumann hired English because had to.  English was a hometown kid, lived in Nederland, his wife and mother were employed by NISD, and English was the best young coach in the area.  English's success at Vidor and Nederland's complete lack of success in basketball was making Neumann look bad.  Everyone knew English wanted to come to Nederland and Neumann finally had to hire him.  But yes, even though he hired him, Neumann wanted English to fail.  Neumann does not want any other Nederland athletic team to outshine his football team.  The Nederland Athletic Dept succeeds in spite of Neumann not because of him.
 11. I'm not trying to make excuses for losing to Ball.  Ball was a very good team and there is no shame in losing in the 4th round of the state playoffs.  I'm just trying to confirm an earlier post that said one of Nederland's assistant coaches went to Disney World and missed the game.  If this is true, it is unbelievable.
 12.

Do you think the "top dogs" don't want Coach English to win.  Isn't there two assistants, which one are you calling mindless, or is it both?
Did anyone notice there was just ONE assistant coach at the Ball game? The other assistant coach was in Florida at Disney World w/the Nederland drill team....REALLY!?!?!? I blame it all on Coach Neuman not wanting the basketball team (or any other sports program in Ned) to do better than football b/c he is so insecure and threatened by EVERYONE!!! The people of Nederland need to push him out.
Is this true?  Did one of our assistants really miss the regional semi-final game?
 13. Replacing Smith, Forney, Cunningham, Mitchell and Wagner will be difficult.  Not impossible but difficult.

We sucked when I played, and for the majority of the 50 years before that. Don't over analyze a simple post.
If your point is that this Nederland team might be special and is probably the best ever at Nederland, then yes I get your point.  If your point is that Nederland has never had good basketball teams (which is what you implied), then no I don't get your point.
Nederland has never ever had a good basketball team until the past 2 years. Ever. Sure a team or two went to the playoffs but no team has ever won. Basketball has been the one sport at Nederland that has never been good until now. And yes I think for a team to really be good they have to prove it in the playoffs. That was the point from the beginning.  This team is special. This group of seniors and Coach English has really turned basketball around in Nederland. Does that make my point clear enough?
No your point isn't clear.  First you said Nederland has ALWAYS sucked in basketball and now you're conceding that they didn't suck last season.  Are you sure you want to stop there? You can make the point that this Nederland team is very, very good without criticizing ALL of Nederland's past teams.  You make statements such as "no team has ever won" in the playoffs and basketball is the one sport that Nederland "has never been good until now".  Obviously, recent teams have won playoff games.  And going way back, Nederland has in fact, played in a state championship game.  So apparently Nederland hasn't always sucked in basketball.  Does this make my point clear enough?

 17. Simple solution.  Newton ISD just needs to raise taxes.
 18.
lately ozen has been squeeking past people....if they play a full game(four quaters) they will be the only team to win in the dog dome.If ozens bigs stand up to the tall task of stopping the forney and smith duo then i think the hustle and speed of ozen's guards will out match nederlands.....This is going to be a great game! someone please post game updates for me to check while im at work
Squeeking by???  Ozen beat PNG by 29 last Friday.
 19.

At that point in the game you are not really even thinking about OT or not.  This isn't football where there is lots of down time in between plays for extra coaching and thought to take place. What you are thinking is "they've got the ball with 1 minute to go and they are in spread trying to get us to come out of the defense that has hurt them the entire game.....they want us to get into something that they can exploit easily" what no one has even said is that even if png came out who is to say that nederland doesn't play keep away for the rest of the time and still hold for the last shot? with those thoughts you are not concerned about OT or whatever....they are on offense, you are on defense and all you are thinking is they have us in a bind right now so my best chance is to sit back and make them come to us and beat the defense that has given them trouble all game long
good post!
Why did Nederland having the ball with 90 seconds left in a tied game mean PN-G was in a bind?  A lot can happen in 90 seconds.  Didn't Ozen make up a five point deficit against Vidor in the last 50 seconds the other night?
 20. Does he actually have an offer from A&M?  Hope he picks LU!!!
 21.
Since you are into "hoping" I guess you are "hoping" that Nederland missed that lay-up you referred to?  right? its about what is best for your team and it was not best for png to come out and extend their defense due to the fact it created a higher chance for nederland to score nederland took a contested 3 from the corner that is a 33% on a good day it was a sound strategy a 16 year old didnt block out on the back side and that is your game sometimes kids do and dont make plays the outcome of that game had to do with one kid making a play while another didnt strategy had little to do with the ultimate outcome
Yes, if I'm PN-G I would hope Nederland misses the lay-up but as I pointed out, even if they make the hypothetical lay-up, with 60 seconds remaining the game is far from over.  But if they make this lay-up at the buzzer, the game is OVER.
 22.
because nederland had possession so they put png in a bind by holding it to try and force them to come out and play defense and if png did that nederland would have probably shot a lay up it is not a difficult concept
Ok.  Let's assume Nederland shoots a lay up with say 60 seconds left in regulation.  Maybe they miss the lay up and PN-G gets the rebound. Now PN-G has the ball with a tie score.  But what if Nederland makes the lay up.  PN-G has the ball down two with 60 seconds to go.  Not the end of the world.  They have one minute to score the tying basket or maybe hit a 3 and go ahead by one.   I guess PN-G's whole strategy was to hope Nederland would not score at the buzzer to win the game and then hope they get the ball first in OT and score and never give up the lead.  Because if Nederland gets the ball first in OT, we're right back where we started from.  Would PN-G sit back the whole first OT period hoping to go to the second OT?

It is impossible to put a basketball game into black and white statistics and very easy to say after the fact that you disagree with a decision however, if png gets the defensive rebound goes to OT and wins then png coach is a genius, right?  would you be publicly disagreeing then?  the png coach who knows his players a heck of a lot better than you do knew that if he came out and extended his defense that his teams chances of stopping nederland significantly decreased so it was really an easy decision
I still don't understand why anyone thinks PN-G had a better chance of beating Nederland in OT (if the game goes to OT, which it didn't) than they did playing out the last 90 seconds of regulation time.
Could it be that the PNG coach thought that getting to overtime was preferable to doing something that would give Ned the opportunity to keep it from overtime?
In a sense, they were already in OT.  Why would getting to the "official" OT period be better for PN-G?
 24.
Nederland play what style for 32 minutes?  Hold the ball?  Why?  Nederland is the better team and if the 3 is falling it is not a game because a packed in zone offers lots of open 3 point opportunities and Nederland was not able to convert which is why they pulled it out to make png go man so they could use their superior athleticism to create an easier scoring opportunity. 25.
right call by png coach when you are not the better team you take your chances on defending one shot as opposed to having to defend for multiple possessions he did the right thing forced the lowest percentage shot they could force and just didnt block out on the back side
Even if Nederland hadn't scored at the buzzer to win the game, the game would've gone into OT and PN-G would've had to defend mulitple possessions then.  So by sitting back, PN-G accomplished nothing and they gave Nederland the chance to win the game with the last shot, which is what happened.  PN-G was not ahead.  The game was tied.
