Sanderson pitched very well, stayed ahead of nearly every count and worked fast. Smith was also impressive with 10 k's and battled through 6 Vidor errors. Sandersons HR in the 5th broke it open. Prior to that Nederland had about 7 hits, 5 of which were ground balls that found their way through. Nederland was the better team today. Good luck to both programs.

Jarred's name hasn't been mentioned much in the Vidor Baseball threads so I figured I'd show him some love. Lumberton: Chris Campbell threw 2 innings, no hits. Matt White threw 2 innings, walked 2, struckout a few. Ryan Erikson threw 1 inning, no hits. Freshman Brandon Young gave up 1, struck out 2. Chance Koch hit a solo HR.

Several select teams will be playing this weekend at Lamar and area High School fields at the Tournament hosted by Houston Thunder Baseball. I'm very proud of Eric Foshee tonight. Although I didn't get to watch the game personally, I was able to follow it closely and he came through big for Vidor tonight. It's a treat to see good kids succeed and Eric is one of those kids. Has allowed one run through 12 innings in district (1 IP v Ozen, 4 IP v PNG, 7 IP v Ned). However, as good as he was (and he does deserve his share of credit) tonight was about Vidor and a very very big team win to keep their playoff chances alive. Good job Pirates, keep it up!

Much needed win for Vidor to get to 1-1. Tough loss for Lumberton but is not something they can't bounce back from. Not much offense from either team but solid pitching from both starters (Smith and White). Both only had 2 walks going in to 7th and surrendered only 6 hits combined. Both teams pretty similar. If they can pitch well and play defense they will compete for playoff spot. Will not win many games against tough opponents if they allow 4+ runs due to lack of offense. Both teams are very young (both started around 2 Seniors) and have a solid chance of being good over the next few years if they invest the necessary time and are coached well.
