LOL.

Today's game was ridiculous.  I believe there were 6 charges called against one team in the first half alone.  Teams were in the bonus halfway through the first quarter and again in the third quarter.  Totally phantom calls and then no calls on total hacks.  I really don't have any idea what the refs were seeing.  It was really bad both ways.
i don't know exactly which game you're talking about but it seems the officiating in the area has gotten just plain sorry overall. once again, some good refs doing a fine job but the proportion of just outrageously poor ones has multiplied. its taking some of the fun out of it, nobody likes to see poor calls, i'm not talking about "close" ones, i'm talking about calls that are obviously bad even if they are against your opponent.

I received word from Coach Fontenot at East Chambers that Baytown Lee was a last minute dropout of the East Chambers Holiday Classic.  To account for this, Tarkington has been moved from Pool A to Pool B.  Which will change the following:

    1.  The only game in Pool A will be the East Chambers/Hamshire-Fannett game at 7:30 p.m. tonight.  THERE WILL BE NO 10:30 GAME FOR EAST CHAMBERS AND NO 3:00 GAME FOR HAMSHIRE-FANNETT.

    2.  Orangefield will play Tarkington at 10:30 this morning.  I do not knnow whether the game will be in the Old Gym or New.

    3.  Tarkington will play Hitchcock at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Gym.

I should receive further word today on how that will affect the brackets come tomorrow and will post that info as soon as I get it.
how did moving one team out of pool A and leaving it with just two teams into pool B "account"  for anything, why not just leave pool B with two teams and bye the pool B games where the team was dropped from?
  3. maybe a compromise is suitable, like with tats, if you want to keep it cover it. after all, how his hair looks on his own time is his business (might hurt his self esteem you see) and he can't just grow it back after every practice or game, but if he loves the game and wants to keep the dreds maybe he should wear a skull cap or suitable cover in practice and games maybe even during school, but at the end its the coaches decision....

This is gonna be one of the top playoff games in the State.  This could have easily been a State championship game.  IMO whoever wins this one probably takes the title.  Good luck to both schools.
LT vs Cedar Park was the championship game b/c nobody else could beat either one, LT wins not by a mile but comfortably.
Wow I guess Friendswood should not even show up.
nobody said that, it's a predictions thread, i'm sure FW has a great team or they wouldn't be there, my point was simply that LT is going to 4 peat IMO. should be a great game.

It is not fair to the teams that actually try to do things the right way and teach fundamental play and then get in the game and allow the athletes to take over because they are stronger or faster.
really? It's an unfair advantage to be a superior athlete?  Maybe the most ignorant things I've ever read here ??? ::)
its an unfair advantage when those "superior" athletes are allowed to break the rules of the game. if those superior athletes play skilled basketball then more power to them, but it is not within the realm of the rules for a stronger athlete to use brute force to have an advantage because the rules aren't enforced. that was the point, not that good athletes shouldn't be allowed to excel, just that they shouldn't be allowed to ignore the rules and played unskilled brute force basketball. basketball is somewhat physical but in some cases its gotten out of hand. primarily it is a game of wit and skill, if it weren't then just throw out the foul rules. even rugby has rules.

The problem with officiating is that officials have nothing at stake, as do the coaches.  They have not put in hours and hours of work to get inconsitent calling.  The worst thing about officiating is the defender guarding the ball, dont get me wrong, but it is a foul to impede a dribbler if he is dribbler.  That means if you touch him on his pursiut to get past you that it is a foul.  I am all for playing aggressive defense and alot of people think that coaches are good because they teach their players to play hard.  But, they need to teach them to play hard without fouling.  Handchecking and riding a player up and down the court is a foul and needs to be called so.  It is not fair to the teams that actually try to do things the right way and teach fundamental play and then get in the game and allow the athletes to take over because they are stronger or faster.  The intregrity and fungamentals  of the game should be protected more and they are not.  This is something that is very bad in Region 3.  Once teams get past this region they will soon find out that officials from different areas protect the findamentals.  This should be their priority, but like I said they have no concern over protecting the game(they want to make their money and go on, I know there are exceptions) and allowing it to become a free for all, and a mindset to let the kids decide the game. Let the kids decide the game within the rules because basketball is a game of skills and athleticism not just athleticism.  Call the game the way it is read in the UIL handbook.  It is as simple as that.  Great example:  I saw Martins Mill get beat today by 6 points because the officials allowed Paris to ride them up and down the court.  5 out of 5 times they dont call a foul and then the one team gets a steal and its ok.  What about the other 5 times where they fouled and didnt call it?  If officials dont start calling the games the right way, the fundamentals, which in my opinion make the game beautiful to watch, will not be taught as much,
good post, i agree with you about protecting the fundamentals and how rough play is often rewarded above skill. i do believe the rules read something to effect of "contact that impedes movement" or something to that effect for fouls, but i see alot of hip bumping in the traps that doesn't get called, until you least expect it. you can see the frustration of both teams as their arms are torn from the ball for a steal, then 20 seconds later a love tap gets whistled.

there are some games that would be better off with players calling fouls, sure there would be bad calls but i don't think it could get much worse. at least the kids would learn some respect for each other. really would it be that hard to pick a few game films (after the fact) and evaluate officials in a constructive manner? i'd pay another buck admission if it went to funding a program that improved this situation and maybe a bonus for refs that got high scores!!!

In the heat of the game, it doesn't matter if the call was good or not...  there is always going to be half the fans happy and the other  :'( half mad!!
thats not entirely true, the fans get upset when there's inconsistency, especially in the same game.

They meet on Sundays I believe, and have plenty of openings!
Its not like its volunteer work, its a paying gig, nobody is perfect but some of its pretty poor. Its not for everybody but if they take the job they should do it fairly. I don't know about this tourney, but recently i saw an official threaten to remove an entire section of spectators because one parent made some comments he didn't care for. I've seen some rowdy spectators and this was not one, we didn't even hear him sitting a few feet from him. The official knew where the comments were coming from and threatens an entire section of parents and grandparents that had nothing to do with it, thats just ignorant and gives the profession a black eye. Its simple, turn off the volume and grow a little thicker skin, do a fair job (already this year i've seen 2 lopsidedly called games), collect the money and go home. Its not an officials job to dictate the outcome of a game and the fact that some would like to censor any feedback only reinforces the point that they're not interested in doing better. The sooner theres some internal evaluation and consequences the sooner the players, fans, and the guys out there doing a good job will be happy, and to those that are kudos to them. I fear that percentage is slipping.

BH not very good in basketball this year.. Toon saw writing on wall..
Liberty has not been good in basketball in a while...
If someone paid good money to see this game they should have flipped themselves off!!
now thats funny.....on the serious side i have no doubt liberty has improved, i mean what were they last year 2-10 in district? i expect to see improvement, but it's a little early to crown them "contenders", theres alot of bball to play and talent alone does not a team make, composure will be the key.

i heard the hunter boys are dropping basketball to go take starting varsity spots on the very successful HF soccer team...  ;D
That is possible, if they can find the time from Universal Off Season
Yep, when you really get right down to it, it's all about football conditioning, getting stronger  and  bigger. Notice I didn't say faster.
well...the LCM vs HF game was exciting! I must say for several minutes I saw the HF line up that had HF umake up a 10-1 deficit initially. The line up consisted of # 3,13,10,23,00! I would like to have seen #35 in that line up. That was an awesome line up that worked. Why we did not see that consistently throughout the game....I don't know? Once that line up was no more...HF lost their 2pt deficit. The final score was 60....44 . HF loses. I saw the FIRE back in #13! Coach the sophomores,  #10 and #35 added SO MUCH to the team. The whole tempo of the game was different when they were in. Wish we could see them both in together! The best line up for starters....#13, 35,10,23,& 00! Good hustle tonight HF!
ok i'll be the first to say it, and i'm sure someone will be offended, but that's just a little too much analysis for the forum. i've followed this thread for a few days, and i understand your concerns and frustrations because i've shared them myself (especially last year), but the whole premise of "give credit where it's due" is blown out of the water if you don't give the guy in charge a little breathing room to experiment with different combo's without being shredded for it, even if tongue in cheek. he's being progressive and now you want to make the lineup for him. the season is still young and while you'd like to get some w's it's also important this time of year to figure out what does and doesn't work, and while you MAY have the attention of someone, a good way to lose it is to get an inch and take a mile. if you want to make those kind of specific suggestions why not do it privately via email, you almost assure that it won't happen by posting it "out here". just my opinion.

i'm still ticked about tarkington playing yall on a vacation day, never did get a straight answer about whether the guys had to work out before that game, didn't look like it though...not really fair if you ask me  ;D

Reed would be a HUGE loss !!
not HUGE because the kid playing behind him is about to be a star, ced would certainly be missed, but they'd get over it, double zero has tremendous upside. besides, reed played the first game, why do you think he's not playing?
  14.
Got a rules question:

Kid gets caught dunking in pregame-  Rule is Tech foul and coach gets the seat belt for game?  That is the rule given to me by a bmt official.  No exceptions.  Seat Belt.  That is the Rule!

    IS THIS THE CORRECT RULING?
whats the big deal about dunking, doesn't hurt anybody. refs blow whistle when they come in mind your manners after that. is this a case of a ref trying to be the dunk gestapo or just enforcing the "rule" after they've graced us with their presence? you know, they've really got other more important things to do like calling a clean and fair game. there's some good refs out there, but to be honest it looks like they're getting harder to find.
  15.
I can see where a team would want a day of practice over a game.  It isnt fair to the other team but you can get alot more done in a 2 to 2 1/2 hour practice than a game.
work the practice in somewhere else, it's not "look out for number 1", it's professional courtesy, if a team schedules with you then you should honor that if at all possible. if practices were paramount to games then why play any games before district?
  16.
Dove, I would take that advice seriously had you known anything about those 3 teams. ;)

Liberty will beat Tarkington in district play.
when these players were sub-varsity liberty always looked better on paper, oh except the paper called box score ;). tarkington most likely won't compete for a top 3 spot, but they may play the spoiler for somebody. look for a split in district play.

HF has some players and played a great game. This matchup should have been closer, but what do you expect when one of the officials graduated from HF 2 years ago. (Verified by the HC) A little home cookin' ???
he reffed the 9th and JV games ONLY! Those games were not even close. In the varsity game, you guys were in bonus situations and you still didn't take advantage of it.  ???
i'll agree with that statement but the fact remains that the officials let the varsity game get way out of hand, and the result was 2 players ended up injured because of OVERLY physical play. alot of knit picky stuff called with huge fouls ignored, on both sides of the ball. it's not the kids fault, they will play as rough as they're let to, boys will be boys but that game should have been reeled in long before all that racket. the officiating didn't change the overall outcome in my view except that one player ended up with stitches and another with a shoulder injury (both no calls btw). that just shouldn't happen because officials won't blow the whistle when they need to. hf looked good enough without all that and tarkington should have just concentrated on fundamentals. good hustle on both sides, it just should have been cleaner. hope yall have a great year.

From what I've seen...I've only been able to catch a couple of 21-3A games so far this year. The Freshman PG for HF can go. I don't know his name or anything, I've just put pieces together on here to figure out it's Bluedove's son (I think). Only reason I went to watch HF play. I have to say sir...if that is your son...he's good and you and previous coaches have done a good job teaching him the game. I saw tons of height on that team when I watched them play. Guard play is going to make or break that team.

so which team did lil dove play on last night?
