I obviously wouldn't go that far with it hum-babe. But, I will say that there are usually a few players on the 2-8 3-7 4-6 teams that could have started on the playoff teams..reserving spots though...thats horse censored. Thats like those little league teams up north that dont even keep score. Thats crap. I think the awards should go to the best players. Weither they play on the best teams or not.
yep i agree with that, noting that it's true that a RB with poor numbers on a 2-8 team might be a beast with the 9-1 teams line blocking for him, but thats just life and part of team play. the other variable is that the coaches can only "judge" based on what they either a.) witness first hand in their game against that particular team, b.) see on film from another game, or c.) see on the stat sheet. they don't see every game. so maybe coaches go based on recommendations from the other coaches about their own players? but quotas? my two cents is that would just be really messed up.

    Is that a 5K course?

That seems a little slow for top ten times? I'm not dogging any runners here..I'm just a little confused. I thought BC was faster than that as a whole/
that's what i'm thinking, the course is supposed to be 5k i think, but every course does have it's own "character" that can affect times. I know a sub 16:30 won 22-3A and Huffman's top runner is a beast, personal best of 15:39 last time i checked so he was nearly a minute off that, yesterdays heat and humidity surely made it hard to get good air, maybe it was even worse where 21 ran. guess we'll know in a week and half or so just where everybody is.

edit:just to clarify, not taking anything away from the guys in 21, top 7 spots for BC is an impressive feat, congrats to those guys for such domination  ;D .....run forest run.....

I will go with DeBerry for MVP he is a good QB. Coldspring and Huffman has a bunch of good quality kids, but there are some good ones on the other teams also, will be watching to see if Politics will play a big role in the voting or if it will be the best player gets it.
i hate to say it but in all HS sports the "politics" are pretty much making these "honors" somewhat meaningless, there's obviously some good players that get recognition but.......i supposed politics have been around longer than HS sports and probably won't go away anytime soon, and it reflects poorly on the group making the selections even though it's most likely a small percentage of them that screw it up...

Voted again today. Looks like you moved up to page 6! Page 7 last night.
Thanks Karma to all.  We are on the 1st page.  We have like 6 or 7 different ones.  The are going to combine all the votes.  We are the 21st school listed.
i wondered about that, i saw hardin in several places. voted for the first one anyway, but since hardin is on several pages doesn't that mean that the "one" with the most votes is shown first so that when they are combined yall should jump a bunch at once? sneak attack....pretty clever strategy if you ask me.

    What's the tie-breaker(s)?
coin flip with the winner selecting which of their opponents goes for a first round beat down.. :-\

nah, apparently it's some sort of points differential between involved teams system, so a 40-6 win would weigh alot more than a 7-3 win, so run those scores up boys!! as previously stated, a highly unlikely scenario for a 5 way tie but sure would be interesting.
  6. for the kids it's not just about winning, alot of it is about playing. i understand what you're saying about the "b" squad getting playing time, but a coach has to be real careful about sending the wrong message, it's not just about recording the W. football is a little different but last year i saw a baseball coach pull all his starters after an inning and a half because they were up 8-0 i think, (something like that anyway). it really hurt the kids and sent a terrible message "do your job well enough and you get benched". made a game of it though because soon it was real tight. dumb move for morale if you ask me unless a player was laying down on the job.

i don't know the principles involved but it sounds like the coach did right enough, as stated there are alot of opinions but in the absence of a "mercy" rule (why doesn't football have one?) he balanced play time for his starters, winning, and not making national news or embarrassing the other team. theres usually not much difference in 50+ to 0 and 100-0 except the latter makes headlines and pads stats. alot depends on your opponent, do they want to keep playing for the experience or are they just going through the motions? are your players taking it serious or getting sloppy? every situation is not the same, sounds like coach tried to balance it best he could.
  7. that's definitely some awesomeness, a pretty good case can be made for cedar park (new to 4A this year) too outscoring opponents 229-25 in 5 games (smallest margin of victory 24 pts.) as opposed to 4 games for brenham, but of course you can't compare across different opponents. still 3 pt./game, 5 pt./game, especially considering who they play, is tight. considering cp's offensive output this should be one heck of game to watch should they meet along the way. like someone said, good offense counters good defense.

    Tarkington= Fail
scooter, everybody's entitled to their opinion but that seems a little harsh, i'm sure those kids were out there busting their butts trying to get the job done and i'm not being mamby pamby pc "don't be hard on the kids" bs. i'm all for some butt chewing and denigration i just think it should be in house and thats just my opinion. i'm sure they're beating themselves up pretty bad as it is. taking nothing away from the bobcats for a job well done the horns need to figure out whats not working and do something that ain't that.
  9.
Yes Tarkington is 3A and Daisetta is 1A. HD has 18 kids suited up. HD has dominated. Tyler Drake goes in for a 35yd TD. Bobcats lead 28-6 with 8:28 to go. Not sure how Tarkington scored 30+ points on Hardin. Their only score tonight came on a fumble returned for a score.
don't have the advantage of being there, last week it seemed kountze just committed 9 or 10 to the run between the tackles and stuffed it, is that your take on how HD is playing them? even though it looks like it's shaping up poorly for the horns i'm really sorry i couldn't make this one. congrats to HD and thanks for keeping us posted...

    12-0 half Kountze
    20-0 FINAL SCORE

Kountze--prepared for Tarkington's offense and ran with their big guy.  Tarkington--flat on both sides of the ball.  Where was the Tarkington team that played so well against Hardin last week?
thats a good question, i think they were there but it's all about the adjustments, kountze did a good job filling the box and collapsing running lanes and tarkington didn't (or couldn't) offer anything to spread them, but that's just a layman's observation, i ain't no analyst. if no one objects i normally take my crow with a lemon marinade and heavy dose of pepper (from the predictions post) but i still think Coach C is making great progress and the Horns have better days ahead.

heck of a back and forth game by both squads, horns took lead inside a minute and hornets roared back with i think 39 seconds on the clock. it was odd that clock was down to 35 seconds after horns scored but reset to 39 before kickoff, it could have gone either way at the end, very exciting for fans. personally i would have liked to see the horns hold on, they showed their competitiveness and they've got a great leader there.just trying to figure out woho had their ball. hats off to the hornets for making the play when it absolutely had to be made. horns will get better by the week, won't be in the cellar as so many predicted.
Not weird, 38 seconds on clock when they kicked, Hardin kid basically called a fair catch then dropped down on the ball. Clock doesn't start till the ball is touched. Still a great game though, Tarkington's offense will give you some fits, it became a game to us in the stands trying to figure out who had the ball.
what was weird was that when the horns scored it read 35 and was subsequently reset to 39 (or 38 as you say) before the kick, of course official time is kept on the field i'm supposing so that was why there was a discrepancy, of course at that point horns fans were hoping it would just wind down  ;D. i don't guess i ever paid that much attention to the announcer at home, but other places it seems there is always a little "home field" bias at least when it comes to enthusiasm. did somebody say they were actually calling formations? i guess i better start paying better attention  :D

  13. why not just change the ball? everybody has to go buy new bats because some are too "hot"? it's ridiculous, all they have to change is the ball (which get replaced every game anyway), oh wait, that wouldn't make the bat companies filthy rich all over again. here's one for you, just let the umpires bring 5 bats to every game 29" to 33", both teams use the same bat and nobody has an "advantage", and if a kid is too fast let's tie his shoelaces together.

just change the ball and be done with it. with today's science balls could be designed for less exit speed and still maintain "long flight", infielder safety is the issue, not home runs, correct? all i can say is that bat prices need to drop appreciably if they pushing us down this road.

just my opinion, i think this a "money" move, not a logistical one, too easy to change the ball.
