1. i gotta say i'm surprised and impressed (thats not a slam-i'm eating crow), congrats and well deserved kudos to hj for a great win. another altercation outside the gym after a cleveland loss? seems to be a pattern. the game is on the court and it is just a game, no need to carry it outside...sheesh.
 2.
grabbing them like that on a breakaway is usually two shots and the ball, as far i've seen.  it's really a dumb foul, because if you make even a little effort to at least reach towards the ball and create contact, they won't call that intentional foul.
on top of that the first time if i remember the shot was actually made making it an and one....how often does that happen?
 3. don't know about evadale or how it is to play in EC but it's one heck of a place to watch a game! it looks like even the concession workers have a decent view through the glass, nice touch....now if they'll just get some closed circuit monitors in the bathrooms..wow... ;D, oh, and some parking...one step at a time i guess....seriously though, super nice place.
Alright Cleveland was stretching it lol but who else would have beat them?
well tarkington DID in their first scrimmage so i don't think it's safe to just assume OF would have cruised through coldspring and tarkington, it's all really a moot point since they're not in that district and the games weren't played etc etc etc...heck if it makes somebody feel better to think OF would have come in third let 'em believe it.
 5.
haha.............Cleveland would beat OF by 30-40!!!!!!  OF would likely have gotten 3rd in that district!!!!
was OF football in the playoffs? were they missing players in the first part of the season?
 6. i'd like to say thanks to the sabine pass team, coaches, and fans for coming a long way on a saturday afternoon to play a warm up game. it was a close game for the most part against a larger opponent and the fans that came were an enthusiastic and classy bunch, best of luck to them in the playoffs....
 7.
Liberty beat shepherd the first round by around 40(scored 98 points on em) The second tyme Liberty won but by 4.
what year was that? maxpreps shows liberty winning the first time 51-43 and shepherd winning tuesday 63-42, that's not 98 points in two games, is maxpreps that inaccurate?
 8.
Ok thought it was more of a mess than it is
cleveland still has to beat splendora in splendora to clinch, unlikely splendora wins but who saw coldspring beating them in their own place? the books not closed on it just yet....
None, they will still be the #1 team in region 3 I would think and Silsbee will be right under them.  HJ is going to go below 10, and WOS may see the top 25. I've seen on the girls side #7 beat #6 by 30 pts, and the next week nothing changed.  ::)
Something tells me you'll see Cleveland drop in the polls. You lose a district game to a team that has lost 15 games this season, you will drop.
uhhhh has coldspring lost 15 games? polls are good for bragging rights, but with playoffs starting do they really mean anything? who cares what the polls say, brackets decide whose who now.

EDIT:splendora lost to coldspring, nm, coldspring losses to cleveland and liberty and two horns wins against liberty and huffman will tie them for 2nd
so r yu trying to say tht we arent as good as everyone says we are
:-\ nooooo, i said they weren't as good as i've seen them before and perhaps they were having an off night, a warm up game against a high caliber team will bring out the best in them i'm sure....it doesn't make a difference what anybody says it's what you do that you control and what counts. my opinion is that cleveland will contend for if not win a state championship, but there again what i think hardly matters....

 12.
What are you going to cut to allow all coaches to only coach?
football ....... and cosmetology of course
 13.
Having a basketball only coach is not high on the wish list for many schools at all. Or maybe even you could take your own advice and take your kid somewhere where they have a basketball coach who doesn't have to teach??
and thats my point about the school that can't or won't, it's a priority issue, if it's important enough they'll make it happen, so....it's just not that important, or....they don't know it is yet....no need to have a chip on your shoulder about it. as to you last comment.....you'd like that wouldn't you?  ;)
 14. wait a minute, HF doesn't have cosmetology? this discussion is moot then, its obvious you need to take your kid somewhere else where they still have cosmetology, my apologies.
 15.

baseball, it's about grooming, investing and spending time with the talent you do have.  Not pointing a finger at any one person because it takes a village to raise a child and that same village to produce an athlete.  The community needs to invest in the athletes, the program needs to groom the athletes and the parents have to be willing to spend/take the time, money and effort to help the athlete determine which sport is right for them and encourage them to pursue their dreams.
mamma, well said...I made some of the same points in this forum and the OF vs HF forum and as someone else said alot of changes have to be made.  Hf has a coaching position posted on their website now that has been posted for at least a year...They are looking for a Coach/Math Teacher....HAHA....HF has to stop putting stipulations on coaching/teacher requirements....stop trying to get two for one....AD/Head Football Coach....it will be very difficult to hire a coach who is also a qualified math teacher.  That's why you wind up getting a qualified math teacher who may have played sports in high school and knows very little about what it takes to be a Coach or build a halfway decent program(in any sport)...Try hiring a COACH and hiring a MATH TEACHER if that's what you need.  We pay our taxes for that reason.
Why don't you go get a math degree? You seem like you know basketball better than all the coaches there. In all seriousness, if you live in HF and you have spoken to the coach like you said you have, quit bashing the program on here. Makes the community look bad. What subject do you suppose the coach teach? If you want teachers to teach and coaches to coach and people not doing both, your taxes would skyrocket. Support your school, even if you disagree with everything that's fine, but you can still show some support. Just my opinion though.
i know i don't have a dog in this fight, but HF sure sounds alot like our own community (and school), i don't want to get into whether this is a good forum to discuss the perceived "problems", i think most rational adults can figure out what is appropriate to air out on here but one thing is sure and is that a healthy discussion (somewhere) can clear up alot of misconceptions. what i am curious about is what the tax base there looks like. teacher/coaches are paid a fairly substantial stipend that could go towards a dedicated salary, and of course they don't have to teach in order to coach, in fact i'm not sure they even have to have a degree to teach. most places just require that coaches be "full time employees", i guess the maintenance person could coach (seems like some recent changes require some type of coaching "certification" but that can be done independent of a phd). so anyway assuming a tax base of 1000 households/properties (pretty conservative?) a reasonably salaried dedicated coach would only add a few dollars ($50x1000=$50,000 just for example) to everyone's tax bill, not exactly "skyrocketing" them. i'm not saying everyone involved would see that as a good investment, and ANY increase in taxes usually meets resistance, but then you consider that playoff programs BRING IN MONEY to boot....and current budgets are made to be reallocated right? just some thoughts. its hard enough to find a great math teacher OR a great coach (seriously, not bashing just being realistic), how do you expect to find the unicorn that is EXCEPTIONAL at both.....AND wants to work cheap? and "supporting" ones school doesn't mean just going along with everything that is done blindly. "good" citizens question poor decisions, the admins RUN the schools, but without trying to sound cliche or PC cuz i hate that mess, it really is the KIDS school, don't we owe it to them to give them the best opportunity that we can? no offense to you at all because maybe you don't intend it that way, but when i hear that "support your school" line it sounds a little like PC propaganda as if to say "if you question the powers that be you're a traitor of sorts". come on, that kind of non transparency is a recipe for mediocrity or downright failure. i do agree that ALOT of responsibility lies on the parents, sometimes we expect the schools to do more than is reasonable. but a great coach CAN make a huge difference..again though my question is about the tax base, would taxes really "skyrocket"?

 17.
I two teams tie for the second place spot after splitting their two games against each other, you have two options. 18.
Let's keep things real this go around with Cleveland Scooby.  Last time we played Cleveland you were crying foul after the blow out loss.  We got our wake up call against Huffman and have responded well.  Win the 2 we should win and then get ready for a tough opponent in round 1.  The game against Cleveland needs to be all about learning to play close with a state ranked opponent for 4 quarters.  Something Tarkington hasn't done in recent years.
good points, the cleveland game can be used as a good learning experience and they can get ready to play that round 1 game like they intend to win it not just show up so your plan sounds like a good one to me. but......we can still hope that splendora can pull one out against CS  8), it was a six point game last time, although i realize that was in splendora. how would that be handled IF it were to end up in a tie since the series was split just out of curiosity?
 19. horns win 66-51, after a slow start horns slug their way back into this one and close it out the right way taking a 2 minute 5 pt. lead up to a 15 pt victory in the den, good win for ttowners, now if only they can win 2 out of the remaining 3 and splendora can knock off coldspring in their house  ;D, or could those horns run the table? while that's a tall order with indians coming in, they shouldn't just concede it, it could have huge playoff implications.
 20. horns can pretty much carve out a playoff spot with a win tonight (splendora gets cleveland then at coldspring after tonight) so that should be plenty of incentive but the cats are always tough in their place. if the horns don't overlook them and expect it to be too easy after winning by 20+ at home it should be theirs to lose, not easily but comfortably.
 21. should be interesting to see how it shapes up, huffman definitely is the more "known" factor with alot of good pitching returning but you never know how the "staffs" of the other players in the district have shaped up since last year, anybody have any insight on that? i suppose thats the most important aspect because baseball is the sport where one player at that position really can dominate a game, so what do teams in 22 have?
 22.
I think I am going to jump on the Tarkington bandwagon and cheer for the under dog since so many people dislike them and say they aren't any good. After leaving the splendora/shepherd game. . .boring. I made my way by ttown to see what the fuss was all about. Lucky me I got to see an upset. Tarkington wins 85-83. I almost got it!!! Thats gonna put some holes in a few peoples theories  :o
rats UK you sure enough almost nailed it, i just knew with a 14 pt. lead early in the 4th i was gonna look like such a not big idiot for calling for a 12+ pt. victory, but the horns just kept on running and sure enough by the roughly minute mark the trojans were within a bucket of the go ahead...scary. they earned this one it wasn't just a fluke, they kept their heads on and made some clutch free throws and basically just played their butts off, the team work looked good and they were much smarter with the ball to stay undefeated in their house. that will be contested mightly when their neighbors come to visit next week, but who knows, play smart and hard and catch a break or two....heck ya never know. who won shep/splen anyway?
 23. horns by a dozen or more... and ttown, it's just a forum, don't take any of it too personal, it's just people's opinions, and those change sometimes don't let it get to you.
 24.
Whats your take?
1. do you really want an answer to that question, and if so 2. what would you do with the information if someone could answer that? are you doing an article, are you just curious, or are you someone who is in a position to take that information and do something with it, thats all IF someone could give you a good answer? i wrote my opinion in the tarkington vs. huffman predictions thread and you didn't respond to that other than to say they've been without a starter so either you didn't read it or you didn't buy any of it or you just want some new opinions. you must have seen some games and have some interest to ask the question. what's your take townbball?
