  1. MVP (IMO) is the guy that carries his team to the top of the standings. Without him they would have been in a bind, but due to his production, his team is at or near the top of the standings. I agree that the MVP should not be from a team that is not in contention.
  2. I don't think Nederland is the role model to follow here if trying to win baseball games. I think we have won about one playoff game in the last seven years. Three or four of those years we did not even go to the playoffs.
  3. Here is another fact I think is relevant to this thread. Nederland moved a District game (with Vidor I think) from Tuesday to Monday just last year. As a matter of fact, I don't remember which week last year, but every team in the district moved games from Tuesdy to Monday to avoid the rain. (except for Livingston, they were not in this district)
  4. So in all reality if Chaz Bruce does not pitch for Vidor against Nederland (which he will not) then there has been absolutley no advantage gained by the Pirates playing tonight. We will see Hester for sure and maybe an inning or so from Sims Friday and we will have, nor need any excuses.
  5. Congrats to D'ville on a nice win for their team and coaches.
  6. The worst parent for any team is the guy that floats around the ballpark spreading his disease of discontent. The other parents see him coming and know what he is going to say before he ever gets to them. "The coach is an idiot." "I can't believe he is not smart enough to play or pitch my son". This guy says this to the parents of the kids that are playing and they cordially agree just to get him away from them. They have seen the kid play and they understand. But his best friend on game day is the parent of a kid that is not in the line up. Those two will visit for twice as long as the last conversation. Every team in southeast texas has this parent and most of you already visualized your "floating disease" as you read this. Another clue to being able to recognize this guy is that he is the one with an excuse for everything his son has ever done wrong.
  7. The community was told by the board that there would be free transportation to this meeting.
  8. Hire a $3 coach and you will get a $3.00 program.
  9. Joe Dirt would have to be in that backfield somewhere.
  10. I watched many, many varsity scrimmages and games this season, mainly 4A. Local 3A, 4A, and 5A teams were doing good to put nine legitimate varsity players on the field. Are you telling me that you think there were some legitimate varsity players on the bench on your side of the river? I guarantee you there were not any on our side of the river and am fairly certain that there were none in Orange County either.
  11. utguy Coaches from winning programs feel absolutley no pressure from parents to play the kids they play. You may think so, but you would be wrong. Coaches that win year in, year out, play the best kids with absolutly no regard for feelings on the other side of the fence. The only pressure they feel is the pressure to win. The pressure to win does not come from administration or AD, they couldn't care less. The pressure to win comes from within.
  12. Don't think so. This list doesn't even include the Honorable Mention players that I've been told exists. Coaches have made a mockery of the All District Team for the past two seasons. Entire starting lineups make it. Once selected as an underclassman your history carries you until you graduate; positions changed from where a player played in order to recognize them; two players at each infield position on second team when the better of the two players is obvious; team that ties for third place has more players than the first place team; last place team has as many on 1st Team as PNG; It's a joke! Hope SETXSports does better! Cool Hand Without naming the better player, would you share which second team positions that list two players, have one that is obviously ahead of the other? I looked at them and wondered which ones you thought.
  13. Your players not having to pay $1000 sets you apart from many of the others. This means all of your candidates are fanancialy capable of playing on your team, not just the afluent ones. I hope some of the less fortunates have not already jumped ship on this sport and you can fulfill this need for them. Just read an article the other day on baseball in America leaving many kids behind and I see examples of that around here all of the time. It happens in other sports as well. Here is an idea. Someone start a select team that only kids who qualify for free and reduced lunches can play on. As far as the names go, it is not limited to, but seems to be a Southeast Texas thing. I looked at a list of teams playing in a Tournament at Baseball USA in Houston and only one other entry had a name declaring their elite status. (Dynasty) I like good old fashion wholesome names myself. I never have thought it was too flattering for a kid to tell me he is a Big Timer.
  14. I was not making a comparison between league ball and select. I simply ask the question, What are we doing different now than when we were the elite 4A district in th State. IMO the difference does lie within what we are doing in the summers and the falls.
  15. What we are doing now in southeast texas is not working. Our 4A district was once the crown jewel of Region III baseball. Last year produced THREE 4A "one round and outs". This year has given us ONE "one round and out", ONE two rounds and out", and ONE TBA. A far cry from the meet in the regional final that we had many, many, many times. What has changed? Same schools, same gene pool, same coaches. Different summer and fall set up!
  16. You people who are discussing whether Vidor will "play to win" or not have lost your mind. Their has never been a high school game of any kind where one team did not play to win. Even tune up games when they throw numerous pitchers, kids and coaches play to win. I am laughing that some of you, even a sportswriter, would be in a conversation about whether Vidor will play to win or not. REDICULOUS!
  17. IMO the tie breaker rule in baseball should not be the same as in basketball or volleyball, ect. Baseball comes down to pitching matchups. If two teams are tied at 10-4, they both lost four games. To me it should not matter to who. Therefore I think they should have to play. It is for these reasons that the rule is the way it is in the 4A district.
  18. I have been trying to find the picture you were talking about. Has it been removed?
  19. Evidently the consensus is that there are five local teams better than Westbrook. They were the best team in this area last year, but no where close to being that this year. Answer to your question: Yes I actually think BH is better than WB, and yes I have seen almost all of the top 10 teams play.
  20. Robi is good but where did you see that he is better than the kid that pitched in the PNG game? I think they both did a great job. My guess is that Vidor will play it smart this week and play to get into the post season. If they were to just hand Nederland a fourth loss, it would be hard to keep the pirates out of the playoffs. Nederland is the must win game of the week for Vidor, not LC. If they were to throw #1 at LC and still lose, then come back with #2 two at Nederalnd and lose, their season would be on the brink of disaster. I am not sure that I wouldn't enter the Nederland game with my both of my best bullets in my gun if I were them. My bet is Coach Greene will pitch who he thinks can beat LCM and then worry about Nederland. He has to play every game in this district to win. If he pitches second or third best against LCM and loses and then pitches his best against Nederland, whose bats have picked up lately, and loses, he will have put the team in a bind since he would still have to play PNG and LCM in the second half. If Vidor had not lost to Ozen, Coach Greene could have looked at it as you do but losing can become contagious and snow ball on you. He will want to get back on the winning side quickly. Vidor bounces back and takes this one by 2. McNedfan The loss to Ozen makes it more likely for someone to play to get into the post season. You don't understand the importance of increasing your odds of winning one win this week as opposed to risking two losses. Or it could be that as a bulldog fan you are tired of Robi shut'n down the dogs.

  22. This sounds like a question that would be asked by pitcher number five's dad. If some teams try to get pitchers four and five too much work in district, you might not make it to the playoffs. If it takes your best two or three to get you there, that is what you have to do. Four and five can throw a few innings here and there when the situation calls for it.
