1.
As a fan you always want to believe your team is the best......As a coach making the playoffs is job 1....Coach Green has to ask himself 1.)  Does he believe the Pirates will absolutely beat both Nederland and PNG if he pitches Hester?  2.)  If he doesn't think the Pirates will beat both of them, then does he believe it is more important to ensure himself at least a tie for the third seed with LCM and knock Livingston out of the hunt?  Ned hit Hester but struggled against Armstrong.  Pirates at that time were not hitting or playing defense very well.  That may have changed. Green is pretty sly and uses his pitchers well.  He'll make the best decision to help his team going into the playoffs.
Most fans have no concept of this statement you made!
2.

One the reasons that the WO-S baseball program used to be the best was that Ronnie Anderson was there forever.  Once he left, a virtual revolving door of coaches (including Coach Thompson) left the baseball program in shambles to the point where it has seen success only recently with the revival under Coach Jesse Riojas.  Recall that Coach Thompson did have his opportunities as the head man (head football at Palestine and head baseball coach at West Orange-Stark) and from what I understand, found both experiences pretty bitter ones.
Ronnie Anderson's retirement was not the reason for WOS' declining baseball program.  If you recall, Jerry Nichols took over and later resigned after the 1994 season, due to health issues.  Basically, he was forced out because the team was loaded with talent and yet, they finished around 15-15 or 14-15, etc.  Lots of talent but too many selfish players.  Coach Thompson took over in 1995 and the Mustangs won their own Certa-Bearden Tournament, won district, and finished 24-5.  Brenham beat them in the area round of the playoffs.  John Patterson was terrific that year, but here's the most impressive stat of all: every senior that played on the 1995 team has earned a college degree.  One I'm not real sure of, but here's the list: McDonald, Sellars, Bates,Thompson, Shugart, Fuqa, Caillier, etc.  Forgive me if I've left someone out.   Coach Thompson was forced to resign in 1998, but the talent pool, in just three years, went from great to below average. What you stated about the "virtual revolving door of coaches...." leaving the baseball program in shambles is totally inaccurate and ridiculous.  Did Sam Moore and Stephen Westbrook "leave the baseball program in shambles?" No.
I know this is off topic but I thought Sanchez beat Patterson in play in game when Patterson was senior.  Maybe that was Pattersons jr year.
3. I went back and read all of the preseason predictions. What happened to Lumberton?  They were highly touted early on.  Looks as if LCM is working on taking advantage of the Lumberton skid.  Vidor looks to have fallen off a bit from early projections to. There was only one guy that had the four 4A teams going to the post season that would if it ended today.
4. PNG 6-1 Nederland 6-1 LCM 5-2 Vidor 5-2 ------------- Livingston 3-4 Lumberton 2-5 Ozen 1-6 Central 0-7 my guess at final standings 1) Ned 2) PNG 3) LCM 4) Vidor Same teams, different order, every year!
5. Going into the season and even early on they looked like a contender.  Even Livingston looked as if they might make a run this year. The first half has not gone well for these two.
6. If this game goes down to the wire like you guys predict, I will take Bridge City.  Chad Landry is the best coach in that 3A district IMO.
7. Here is some food for thought.  What is the final outcome?  You could have thrown Hester seven innings and still gotten beat.  Where would that leave you going into Tuesday vs. Livingston.  In A Bind! Randy Johnson could have pitched for Vidor and struggled to win if they got no hit. Hind sight his team is in better shape today (and tomorrow) than if he had made the decision to do what all of you people said he should do.
8. LCM record in the last week?  1-1 Number of times run ruled in district? zero One thing I have learned over the past twenty years?  Don't ever underestimate these guys.
9. I have seen both teams play two or three times. I think PNG is a little down this year compared to years past.  I also think Nederland has been easing back toward the right direction after being down for a while.  I'll take the Bulldogs 9-3.
10. With four teams going to the playoffs, a win over Lumberton is a great start for the Lions. What is Livingston's season record?
11. select is good for some kids (usually upper and middle class) and it is bad for others that are left to play in the now crappy local league that is for the rest of the kids select leaves out the six seven eight and nine hole hitters on most high school teams rendering the local high school teams weaker during their hs season because they did not progress like the top of the order players 10-15 do not progress like they used to either making the longshot moving into the order more rare than years ago the top pitchers in the area are often thrown twice on the same weekend which is over use (some coaches have received bonuses for winning which really increased this problem) the orgonal poster was correct about select ball effecting team chemistry, that is fact area high school teams were better back in the 80's and 90's and even early 00's before the dawn of the select movement (look at the drop in playoff wins since that time)
12. returning 17 players from a team that lost in the first round round does always equal playoff run in following year.
13. I'll tell you how. It is the playoffs and the pitching is good. You better send the runners home when you have the chance. That is better than holding them up only to watch the guy who has struck 162 batters this year strike out number 163. I say good job coach. Way to have the courage to make the tough decisions to try and help your team win.
14. I do not know the facts here, but I think the title of this post might be more suitable if were Hallsville Player Ruled Ineligible, Forfiets Games Hallsville Caught Cheating sounds as if they were intentionally blatantly breaking rules. The staff there might not have even known this kid lived outside the district line. He might have even lived and gone to school there for years. Do you know more of the details?
15. Somebody over there in the know shed some light on what has to happen Saturday for these teams to play who from your district. 1. Ned 2. LCM 3. PNG 4. Vidor I think if Dayton beats Barbers Hill then the 2 and 3 holes are set, right? If Kingwood Park wins and Barbers Hill wins they must have playoff for first and Crosby is third. what else?
16. when was the last time nederland baseball went to the playoffs? 2006? I know not in '08, but I don't think '07 either. How about '06?
17. From an outsider looking in. It looks like this type of suspended game was finished last week in the same district. It looks like a leader from the athletic dept of one team in the district now realizes the rule was misinterpreted then and is now going to have it interpreted correctly. He would not say this game is over unless he knew there was misinterpreted earlier. My guess is the district rule says finish from where you are any game that has not reached the five innings complete mark. Other districts start over at begining. I think this rule was misinterpeted and people thought they were supposed to finish a suspended game even after the five complete mark. I could be wrong on this. Just what I think may have happened here. It looks like one school has had some incidences this year involving kids actions and words. (I am a witness to some) It looks like one school has had a few incidences this year (this week) involving their leader. It looks like their leader figured out everyone knew who he was on this board and got himself a new user name. All of this is not what high school athetics is supposed to be like and about. IMO
18. From UIL Baseball Manual Game Called Prior to Five Innings Being Completed In district and nondistrict games if a game is called before completion of the number of innings and conditions as specified in Article 4 of the National Federation Baseball Rule Book, the umpire shall declare the contest “no game.†Unless otherwise specified by district minutes prior to the season, the game will be replayed from the start. Do our local districts include these types of specifications in their minutes?
19. Someone should do a setx historical rundown on baseball like we have availible to us on this site in football. I know it would take a ton of work. Maybe each team could do their own research and submit their histroy to the administrators.
