  1. I try to stay out of conversation like this one, but I just can't do it on this topic today. I can remember at the first of the season when Lumberton did have the talent to "possibly" make some noise in this district. The new coach rolled in over there and began to do what he does best and that is to coach baseball and start "his" program. I would like to add at this point that this coach was born into this great sport, as his dad is one of the greatest high school coaches in Southeast Texas baseball history. He coached the first LCM district champion in any major boys sport, and that was the 1982 Bears that went to the State Quarterfinals and lost to the eventual State Champion Austin Westlake. (interesting trivia: that team had on outfielder that many of us know by the name of Grif) Believe me, this is a baseball man that has always and will always lead a baseball life. Stories began to flow from that practice field. Some probably true and some probably false, and some probably somewhere in between. Here is the first one I heard. The coach tells the kids after practice one Friday that it is time to run. One kid (a returning team "leader") says "We don't run on Friday's. I don't know the exact response he got, but I can come close. "You either run or leave" I think he left. Everything in the game of baseball is contagious. Laziness, bad attitudes, quitting, errors, struggling at the plate, and many other components of this game. Other similar stories came from over there this year and every time I heard one I personally felt like that guy is actually going to get it going over there once he clears out all of the guys "that won't run on Friday". The kids will obey the request of the man in charge or they will be down the road. I wonder, and you should as well, about what if that first leader would have done the right thing and led that team in the right direction, what may have been? It may have been, a better season. Good luck Coach Find the kid (or dad) from your bench that started this thread and run his butt off too and you will be one step closer to having the people around you that you need to succeed.
  2. Womack played a vital roll in knocking off both teams from our side of the bridge. I tip my hat to that kid.
  3. I'll take HF. WOS has a good pitcher, but I get the feeling he is fatigued at this point in the season. HF has better overall team. HF 6 WOS 2
  4. I have sense enough to know the answer to the question and sense enough not to write it on here.
  5. Is there such thing as a dumb question? I'll answer that! Yup
  6. The only thing I can think of worse than getting beat 36-5, would be getting beat by your own junior varsity.
  7. I just don't think that this is the year that you are going to see anything different. Down the road I think things could shake up a little, I just don't personally beleive it will in 2006. There have been some weird scores coming in this year, a few more here and there and we could have about three teams fighting for that third spot. I think when the smoke clears the pitching of the NDN's carries them in.
  8. SETXBaseball Writes: 1.LCM 2.Vidor 3.Nederland 4. PNG <4A> Watch and See.. Early in the district race all teams think (or hope) that they can work their way into the post season. Traditionaly in this district it has been three teams time and time again. I look for it to be no different this year. I am not too sure of the order just yet, but I believe it will be LCM, Ned, and PNG just as always. I do not think PNG will be sitting at home as you predict. I do think at best you could end up in a playoff for a playoff spot, but it will be a tough win facing the best that the other team has to offer in that big of a game. I, along with the rest of the Southeast Texas baseball community, will have to watch and see (as you have instructed us) how this all unfolds. I do wish your team the best of luck. We all know anything can happen in this game. mcm

  11. Powell will be back and so will the Indians.
  12. Signing scholarships does not necessarily mean their players are better than their opponents. It might mean nothing more than their coach has spent a ton of hours on the phone finding schools that need kids that fit their description.
