Coach Durley was one of the most respected coaches ever to come out of our area. I played against some of his teams and they were very desciplend and respectful. I think to alot of his players he was way more than a coach.
Yes he really was very concerned about players well being and so was clifton ozen and willie ray smith.
I agree with you! Coach Alex Durley was a great coach! I compare him to Coach Herman Boone from Remember the Titans! The school board back in 1971 did what they had to do when they integrated both the all-white and all-African-American probably because of a desegregation order/lawsuit and that was hire a minority coach!
 2. My sympathy goes out to him and his entire family!
 3. Tougher opponents need to be on the schedule! This is one of the reasons why Lamar never got invited to the Sun Belt! Drop the Division II/III/NAIA schools like mentioned in past posts! I am so sick of seeing them on the schedule! It's getting them nowhere! This is probably why Lamar football had been losing money back in the late 80's resulting in its elimination (possibly the other reason is the oil bust/recession of the late 80's)!
 4. As an LU supporter, I am extremely disappointed Lamar wasn't mentioned! We were looking forward to going FBS but what happened? We have one of the best facilities in the Southland Conference and FCS! To me, that is a devastating to recruiting and to the local economy! What needs to be done to resolve this?
 5. Doesn't Huckabay still live in the Orangefield area or sold his house there?
 6. That would be great for the school district! Students need to have updated facilities! I hope Little Cypress' bond passes, too!
 7. Here is something pretty shocking: a winless Grambling State basketball team qualifying for the conference tournament!
 8.

If he follows the same pattern, he will probably move a middle school coach up to take the job.  :-\
Maybe they bring Stump in, that would one-up Weak Brooke.  ;D
Are you talking about Cris Stump, who is at BC or Craig?
 9. Could they bring home a State Title a few years from now? We'll probably have to see!
 10. Schedules for every sports needs to be tougher, too! We all are tired of seeing Division II/III/NAIA schools more often on schedules! Football needs to schedule like GA Southern (possible new neighbor), Weber State, and like Northern Iowa!
 11. What local news source? I checked with both KBMT and KFDM but it may not be true.
 12. He will be missed! Our sympathy goes out to him and his entire family! His legacy at CHS and FHS will live on!
 13. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his entire family! That young athlete never got a chance to exceed!
 14.

Liberty played DII Concord University last year. So not sure what your point is.  Also gotta be able to entice DI schools to want to come to Beaumont, Texas (voted saddest city in America recently).  ;D
;)
Beaumont wasn't "voted" saddest city!  Did you guys even bother to read the articles about it?
Lynchburg is more like Beaumont. It is probably boring but they have that skiing hill at Liberty and all of that other that. But bringing like Purdue, Idaho, Washington State, and UTEP would be a great thing for both schools! It is a great recruiting tool since high school football is a hotbed for talent here!
 15. If Lamar wants to go FBS, then they need to toughen their schedule and that means drop the NAIA and NCAA Division II schools and add tougher schools! Liberty University, which is one of the largest evangelical Christian universities on Earth is on verge of going FBS (could be Lamar's neighbor in Sun Belt) and they have FBS opponents on their schedule almost every year and they are very tough! Why don't Lamar have a tough schedule like them? Fans are not going to spend their hard earned money on tickets so they could watch like Langston, McMurry, or other Division II schools! Fans want game with tougher opponents like UTSA, Youngstown State, Delaware, and the like! Like said, Lamar needs to strengthen their schedule if they want to go FBS!
 16. The tradition of Mustangs continuing their winning careers to winning college and pro programs continue!
 17. If Goodwin does not get the Central job, maybe he might get Ozen! Maybe Coach Verrill Young of Memorial should be considered, too!
 18. They will probably continue doing it that way as long as Neumann is athletic director/head football coach!
 19.
Nobody gave him a offer. He's under-sized and not fast compared to college football players.
He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or Mormon, for short! He wants to go on a mission before playing football! He hopes he can play for BYU once his mission is completed!
Abilene Christian is about to take over Southland Conference football soon. Watch and see.  ;)
Who cares? Lamar will be gone.
They shutting the football program on down again? Ha! ::) If thats so they will never bring it back again. They sure aint going to a somewhat major conference if thats what you are thinking. Bball isnt either. I could see maybe the baseball team.  :P
I doubt it Abilene Christian is dropping football! I checked their website and they had their first Division I recruiting class! The community is looking forward to their first season in that level! That'll boost tourism and the economy in the area!
 21. Congrats to them! I hope they pull off the upset! It would be exciting! LSU should play the Cards at the Beck!
 22. Everyone knows that 20-4A is one of the toughest districts in the State not only in football but every sport as well, whether it's male or female! It has been that way for years and will continue for many years to come!
 23.

He was in the 90s not 80s I guess donald d was'nt good enough. But congrats chad.
Liberty will be a struggle and rebuild for a long time. Donald and others may have figured that out. I feel bad for the kids.
They will be a young team in 2013 HD Bobcat 55! It will take a while for the players to learn a new system!
