Just learned that Coach Steve Shaver passed away Friday.  Coach Shaver led French to the Co-State Championship and was also the first head coach at Central.  Coach Shaver was a great man and will be missed by all that knew him.

It seems to me that the BISD has done better by hiring head coaches from outside the district.  Examples:  Central--Sedbury(sp), Stower; Ozen--Brooks; and West Brook-- Stump

He looks like Tarzan, but plays like Jane.

I guess putting 71 on Lamar didn't help SFA.  What go around, comes around!!

Ambres two fourth quarter come from behind wins in play-offs against No. 1 Humble and Katy Mayde Creek.  Gerald had future NFL stars.  Chip had only one D1 teammate.

No doubt Raymond Paine "Chip" Ambres III.  If he had the supporting cast that Gerald Landry or James Brown had or run the spread offense his numbers would be out of this world.  But to win as many games as he did, with every defense set up to stop him, was outstanding.  Chip is who I would want at crunch time.

Beaumont Bowl #1 West Brook 17 Central 16 over 20,000 in Cardinal Stadium.

Frank Middleton from the Brook. He dominated both sides of the ball playing offensive guard and defensive tackle. If you have any questions about that ask Hooks. Went to University of Arizona. Played in the League for Tampa Bay and the Raiders.

A more fair way for judging regional compition would be to have one judge from the Palacios area, one judge from the Houston area, and one judge from the Beaumont area.

Coaches need to get the regional director back in this area.

Heard the judging was terrible as always. Alot of good lifters didnt make it to state.

Have to agree, Suggs. PA made a major mistake in letting him go and hiring Colbert.

I like the idea of 4 teams going to the playoffs. In 95, Chip Ambers was a sophomore and West Brook lost its first five games, two were district games. The Brook won the last five including wins over the two teams that went to the playoff (Central and North Shore at North Shore). But, I do think each district should have at least 8 teams not 6.

This goes back in to the 70s, South Park was playing Jasper in Jasper. Olen Green caught Jose Moore with a block that was heard throughout the stadium. Jose a great player for Jasper ended up with a broken sternum and never played football again.
