It is not technology. It is because there is no one there that is paid to do it.
The local news media now is almost nonexistent compared to what it was. That is from regular news to sports to whatever. You can go to any of the local media Facebook pages and see dozens or even hundreds of comments about an incident. Then someone will ask, what about the details, which way did they run, what do they look like, etc. and why wasn’t that information in there? more than likely the reason is, the story was not from a reporter. It was likely from a news release from a police department and sometime copied word for word or it is rewritten saying the same thing. A reporter probably did not show up at the scene although I do see them on rare occasion.
I have brought this up before usually in another forum. As a police officer when I used to show up at some kind of major incident (house fire, shooting, robbery, etc.) 30 years ago, once the scene was secured, one of the next steps was to set up an area for the media. They naturally wanted  to get close to the scene where they could take pictures or talk to witnesses. I could show up at a large house fire at 2 AM and within about 30 minutes I might be talking to reporters from the Beaumont Enterprise and Port Arthur News and also from the three local television stations. So I would have at least five reporters asking questions and wanting to know details. I think they used to have at least one junior reporter listening to the police and fire scanners at night. I have had a few reporters called me and tell me that they just heard something on the radio and wanted to know if it was worth showing up at the scene.
I would not be surprised if any officer that has less than 15 years of experience, has ever talked  to or even seen a reporter at a major scene. They surely would not know what I was talking about  if I walked up to one and said, where is the media area going to be.
I believe it is the same way as sports. At one time the papers had full staffs of reporters for all kinds of new stories. I would not be surprised if newspapers have lost 80% or more of their reporters.
I think the technology is what killed it. The news media no longer depends on hiring several persons to drive to locations to find out what is happening. That includes local sports. They have not completely vanished and there are still reporters but they have certainly been cut way back.
    In my opinion.

So many advances in technology.  So many folks laud these advances, but you’ve pointed out one of the glaring downsides.  It’s great for out of area news, but local coverage suffers.  Yes, this is a good news/bad news scenario.  Sad because we lose so much local background and color, be it sports or a crime scene.  Cest la vie.

I am very sorry for the loss of your good friend. I have lost several friends and a couple more are now critical.  I never had to suffer with them though.  That compounds the pain way more than simply hearing about it. It is heartbreaking just to read your comments.
God Bless you both and may you cherish her friendship until you see her again.

This YouTube channel from  Nate the Lawyer says almost exactly what I said. They were engaged. To have enough to prove he didn’t have consent by her death, you would have to prove that he knew she was dead.
He goes a little farther and findssome stupid clerical errors by the FBI. Basically  they indicted him on one charge but put different charge on the warrant. It would be like me doing a probable cause affidavit that you shoplifted something at Walmart (Theft) but then wrote assault on the warrant.  There are two crimes listed in the section on credit cards under federal law. One is to use the card or the number without consent. The other is that you use fraud or forgery to fake the card like maybe he tried to transfer it in his name. They indicted him on the one but wrote the warrant on the other.
Will that clerical error invalidate the warrant? If they arrest him on a warrant that is later found to be insufficient or wrong, that would throw out any confession or any evidence they gathered after making the arrest. That seems pretty sloppy by the FBI. I think they need to get the judge to remove the warrant and simply re-issue it under the correct charge for the indictment but who knows, maybe they will uphold it like it is.
But Nate did this video two hours ago. Maybe he was reading my comments from yesterday… 😂😂😂

The problem with this story as with almost all of them, it came from the news media. It more than likely came from a press release by the police who released practically nothing any more.
Why was the father not armed? The truth is, he might have been.  Maybe the father showed up with a handgun but the guy turned and charged the juvenile and the father couldn’t shoot the suspect in the back, fearing hitting his son.
That is one of just many “what ifs” but we have no clue what happened. When we say something like, well if I had been there…..
In fact what you thought you would do may have been exactly what the father did. The media does not investigate anything, they don’t ask pertinent questions and even though a story might be several paragraphs long, it’s basically just a synopsis.
When I was on patrol 25 years ago, if I showed up at a major crime scene there might be literally five reporters in my face asking me detailed questions about what happened. Sometimes I would release information and sometimes not  but they were there digging. Now a patrol officer can be on the job for five years and show up at a major crime scene and never see a reporter. In fact most have never even spoken with one or had a question asked, even if the officer was not going to answer. The truth is there is almost no more news reporting. Most new stories are done strictly from police news releases, of which I have written many. I have seen several news stories in print and television media  where the report was just copied and pasted from my news release.
This is kind of an odd story and it would really be interesting to know what really happened, but we will probably never find out.

It is called a pretext stop or fishing expedition. The police can make a lawful detention or arrest but are not really looking for the reason of the detention or arrest.
A police officer stops you at 2 AM with your license plate light out. Are you intoxicated? Do you have warrants? Does something in your car make it appear that you were committing a crime? Or perhaps the officer is really concerned about your license plate light out and the safety hazard you are creating…..
Of course we will never know but there might be enough information for an arrest warrant for murder right now. Remember a warrant just needs probable cause (which is defined as, would a reasonable person believe, knowing what the officer knows)  and nowhere near proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Even if they have enough information to technically get a valid warrant for murder, do you want to tip your hand or rush to do something that may be called into question later (was the probable cause for murder valid?) when you now have a legal felony on him?
I would not read too much into a credit card warrant instead of a murder warrant at this point. It may be absolutely true that they don’t have enough for murder… but maybe…..

A means to legally get him in handcuffs? Even the article says, “while this warrant allows law enforcement to arrest….”. I think this is to change him from a missing person to a wanted felon.
Remember that Timothy McVeigh who blew up the federal building in Oklahoma City was arrested for a license plate violation.
Like always, every state and federal laws are different. It does not say who’s credit card he used so it could be a legitimate theft. It can also belong to Gabby and in Texas it would be almost a meaningless charge. It is not against the law to use someone else’s debit or credit card. It is against the law to use it without consent. This guy was engaged to Gabby. They probably swapped credit cards several times. There is almost no way they could prove without her statement that he did not have consent to use it. They would have to almost prove murder first and if they prove that, why worry about a credit card charge?
Again, it is probably a felony charge meaning that if he is arrested anywhere, he can be extradited across state lines. It is a police tactic and a means to an end, in my opinion.

It was IHOP. It was a pipe/sign. My partner saw the blood fly and thought it knocked my eye out. Fortunately I saw it coming about one second before I got hit which probably saved me. I tried to block it with my left arm and I guess I did somewhat.  They x-rayed my hand and wrist twice and thought it was broken. It was just severely bruised. I had a bruise about 3 inches wide from my wrist to my elbow on my left arm. My eyebrow had to be glued back together in two places to keep it from scarring so much instead of stitching it up.
It was an intoxicated federal prison guard that did it. At least he was until that morning.

I have actually questioned a couple of dispatchers before, asking why they joined. I appreciate them donating money that we get to spend. I have heard them give the argument I gave above, they can be provided with a lawyer. Follow up was, yes but you have no rights other than federal law which is an EEOC discrimination in which case you don’t really need a lawyer. Our officers are covered by state law under civil service which covers hiring, promotions and all kinds of things and then by our collective bargaining agreement. Basically we have tons of rights and they have none except discrimination.
But, I do appreciate their monthly donation to our association/union.

I called this a disservice by the news media. Anybody could look at that report and come  to the same conclusion that you did. In fact they practically said it by calling them Beaumont transit workers which they are not.
The news media somewhat of a joke (notwithstanding some good reporters) and they never explain anything and sometimes I think they don’t know either. I have done many interviews over the years on television, new specials, print media and hundreds of press releases.
I can assure you that when you talk to them they sometimes never have a clue but don’t ask anything follow up. There is no problem not understanding a situation with something you’re not familiar with but that should be part of reporting, asking pertinent questions. “What do you mean by that” would go a long way.  They just put what they think they heard and it might be totally bogus. I honestly don’t think they outright lie on purpose. There just seems to be very little investigative reporting, just filling up space in the news.

I think that almost all deaths are something other than the underlying factor. When people die of the flu, it is not because they have the flu. It is because they have COPD, congestive heart failure and other causes. The flu just pushes them over the top which is why the elderly more often die from the flu.
It seems some people contribute secondary causes as a new phenomena under Covid.

tvc184 got a reaction from bullets13 in Vaccination Food For Thought
Maybe it is maybe it is not. In my 60+ years on this planet I have never known a person to die of the flu. I have personally known seven people died of Covid. I have known several others that were hospitalized in critical condition.
Add to the fact that at a 335 million people his country, almost 100% of them travel by vehicle. The numbers are not nearly so high for Covid.
There is simply no comparing automobile deaths with Covid no matter what number should I use.
