From Newton facebook For those tracking Newton running back KJ Porter's pursuit of the career rushing yards record for Newton, last night against Warren KJ had 7 carries for 132 yards and 3 touchdowns. That gives him 650 carries for 6373 yards and 99 touchdowns. That leaves KJ 225 yards behind Anthony Byerly's record of 6598 yards. Continued good luck KJ. Purple Pride Never Dies!!

No, he fumbled, one of our guys jumped on it but didn’t recover it, and I can only assume the ref thought he had it and blew the play dead as the ball bounced to another player who was picking it up and was off to the races. The ball had been out for a decent amount of time when he blew it dead. as to your BTW: I believe so. He blew it about simultaneously with our player picking it up, but there wasn’t a tiger within several yards of him. It was a really unfortunate error. At higher levels I believe the “clear recovery” would’ve been awarded at the spot after a video review, but the rule is clearly different in high school.

Orangefield is heading to 3A State! Anahuac finished just 1 spot shy of advancing but great job for them!

Athens is a dangerous team, they were a regional finalist last year...they lost to Carthage twice and in the first meeting only lost by 5...Athens def has the stronger SoS with a win over Pine Tree on the resume and a win over a much improved Henderson bunch....I'd place them as a favorite over Canton and a favorite in Rd 1 over the 4 seed I've actually seen Canton in person...their QB is a player, but my biggest concern aside from SoS is a lack of overall team speed, especially on defense....Madisonville is no pushover as a 3 seed either IMO

When has Nederland played good against Texas City? They just scored 31 on Dayton. Nederland has 2 good running backs but I am not impressed with the OL and the 2 QB ‘s do not throw well and 1 of the QB’s can’t run out of site in a day

I was talking with my neighbor today about this game and he was telling me about the accidental whistle, and I misunderstood. So the whistle was blown before the fumble, which killed the play at that point, so that there essentially was no fumble? Dang, that's pretty tough. I guess the ref had his whistle in his lips, ready to blow at the end of forward progress. BTW if the whistle is blown after the defender already has the ball and is on his way down the field, is the ball placed wherever the runner was when the whistle was blown?

I don’t think Texas City’s defense can handle Nederland’s run game, and Texas City certainly doesn’t do anything on offense Nederland can’t handle. Nederland’s going to win around 42-14

One of the players has been injured for four years and had only played a few snaps. Guess those patches on those letterman jackets are crucial. One of the other players has played full time on JV and definitely isn’t good enough to play on Varsity. Just my 2 Cents

We were an inadvertent whistle away from shutting Silsbee out the final 30 minutes of the game last night. Would’ve been 7 or 8 consecutive stops I believe. We shutout Hitchcock and LCM, and our first team d held Vidor to a field goal. They scored 70 last night in case you didn’t see it. We also played a great defensive half against WOS, but wore down late. Like every defense in the state we’re going to give up points to quality offenses, but I’m pretty confident saying at worst our defense is above average. We may or may not go three rounds or further, but I’d sure like to understand what you’re basing this statement on.

Vidor had the ball 11 possessions, scored tds on 10 of them. 1 incomplete pass, no offensive turnovers; Huffman did recover 1 on side kick. Really good offensive performance and a good defensive first half.
