Just got a call from AAW:

Lumberton's 1st team started the controlled scrimmage portion which has them starting the series from their own 30.  So far they have run 11 plays and have scored 2 touchdowns (55 yd run and 10 yd run).  The Raiders have yet to throw a pass.

Bridge City's 1st team offense completed its controlled portion against the Lumberton 1st team offense and also scored 3 times during its 20 plays.  AAW estimates that BC threw the ball about 55% of the time and got most of their yardage on their passing plays.

According to AAW, the offenses appear to be pretty far ahead of the defenses on both ends.

Both 2nd teams ran 10 plays each, no scoring.  There was no game conditions portion of the scrimmage.

Bridge City's offense was impressive with an even mix of run and pass.  Menard looked pretty sharp.  The BC defense did appear to get pushed around a little bit when they were on the field but did better as the scrimmage went on.

Of the 45 plays that they ran, Lumberton threw the ball maybe 3 times.  They are going with a full house backfield and look to try and control the ball this year.  And they appear that they may need to, the Raiders on defense had a noticeable lack of team speed that will hurt them around district time.

Another version of the game report from a "non-Silsbee" spectator. :D

Opening series for both offenses was a serious contrast of styles to say the least. Not sure about all these stats and numbers posted earlier in the thread because several of the big plays were negated by penalties. Lumberton busted 3 really big plays and not a whole lot after that so the "official stats" are a bit misleading. Lumberton showed off a really nice running back who was fun to watch, sorry I don't know his name but he ran it well. The "Full House" backfield worked well for the Raiders and gave BC fits at times, with more reps that offense will be a Defensive Coaches nightmare because it takes some serious discipline to stop. BC sported a really balanced attack and by far had the more sustained drives of the 2 #1 offenses. Bridge City showed good speed at the skill positions and Menard was as good as advertised. On both the offensive and defensive side side of the ball the biggest concern for BC may be size or lack of it. They compensate well offensively by taking advantage of Menard and his mobility with the spread. BC did get the run game going with Clark during the second session for the first offenses.

Defensively BC had some issues on the first series that ultimately were resolved but not before Lumberton scored a pair of long TD's. BC held the Raiders in check for the most part after that. Lumberton got good penetration several times from their defensive front line causing a few disruptions for the BC offense, especially on that inside run from the spread formation.

Overall both squads have to feel good about their performances. Relatively clean game for both sides as far as penalties and turnovers are concerned. And the biggest thing for both sides was no injuries!!

A Bridge City point of view in a  "non homer" version ::).  One that gives credit to the other side when they deserve it, unlike the "die hard homers" of the world who look thru "rose/maroon" colored glasses. Sorry, I couldn't help myself! ;) Just having some fun with ya.

Giving credit .... Lumberton is running a completely new offense.. nothing like what the returning players have been doing for the last 2 years.  They will become more comfortable in this offense every day.  They had 6 different backs that had carries in the first team offense and had considerable success which is reflected in the stats that are posted earlier.  The 2 big runs ( at least 50 yards each) that were called back would have been nice to add to those stats.  Overall ... they called 6 pass plays.. scrambled and didn't throw the ball once, completed 2 of the other 5 for 60 yards.  Defensively they need to swarm the ball more.  I said in another thread that these raiders will surprise some teams and after what I saw last night... LOOK OUT!!  Good start Raiders
