Oct. 2, 2010, 3:41AMShare Del.icio.usDiggTwitterYahoo! BuzzFacebookStumbleUponEmail Close [X]For the second consecutive week, the Dayton Broncos got off to slow start.

It took just one quarter to wake up Friday night, as the Broncos scored 22 second-quarter points on to rally for a 52-23 win over previously undefeated Galena Park in 19-4A action at Galena Park ISD Stadium.

The Broncos, now 2-3 and 2-0 in district play, spotted the Yellow Jackets leads of 7-0 and 16-14,in the first half before the defense took over the game.

Coach Jerry Stewart knew his team would have to play well to beat the Yellow Jackets.

“We knew we had to win the turnover battle and force (Andrew) Vargas to get rid of the ball,” Stewart said. “Last week we forced eight turnovers and tonight we were able to get five interceptions. ”

Vargas, who came in the contest with 1,076 passing yards passing, was effective early. He took the Jackets on a quick four-play, 50-yard drive that ended on a 13 pass to Lamont Green. Green, ended the game with 131 yards on seven catches.

Then the Broncos took over.

Running back Xavier Baldwin, evened the score at 7-7, on a 30 yard dash on a fourth down and two play.

Then after an interception by Quincy Williams, quarterback Andres Herrera found Gamal Fowler on a post pattern from 20 yards and first of three TD passes. Fowlerended the night with 95 yards on six catches.

Jakari Delasbour, who finished with four touchdowns and near 400 all-purpose yards, gave the Broncos the lead for good at 22-16, after he took a short flat pass 64 yards to score just before the half .

At a short intermission break, Delasbour showed his blazing speed as he returned the second half kickoff 91 yards.

Dayton added four more interceptions, that preceeded scoring drives. Constant pressure on Vargas, resulted in picks by Jamaud St. Andre, Aaron Ripkowski, Baldwin and C.J. Burks.
Thats a great article. I think there should have been some mention of Jo Duff. He made ALOT of great plays.

Right you are sir.  It's easy to take him for granted because he is so consistent.

PLATINUM GAME BALL:

Juan Carranco for kicking the piss out of the ball and winning the field position battle for the Broncos.

X Baldwin for special teams play

Absolutely No Balls:

The hill for being real.  I know it's unrelated but I couldn't resist.

[glow=red,2,300]Cougars, i.e. goobers....just getting ready for the super smack showdown.  Get your stats ready.

I can promise you that the smack will be twice as nasty when Dayton plays Crosby.  We don't like them and they don't like us.  That's why they are so much fun to beat.

If you can hill1970, can you tell me what the record is between the two teams for the past decade?  I know you guys have one win, can you remind me how many wins Dayton has over Crosby?

So, Dayton beat the hill so bad that you got embarassed and switched teams?  Sad.

Dayton's rein over 19-4a is over. Crosby is the new ruler.
I believe that would be reign.  I also believe that you must be a professional comedian.  We'll see within the month won't we?

Fixed it, and yes we will. I just hope that y'all can get by Lee this week.  ;D

Hill1970  Crosby had better be worried about beating Galena Park in a few weeks. GP is better than most people think and they will give Crosby all they can handle if not beat them. I think GP will win that game.  ;) ;D
The Crosby vs GP game will be a dandy.  If the GP QB can get a little more accuracy, look for the Yellow Jackets to win that one.  Will be interesting to see if Crosby continues to improve.  Heard they had a lot of kids hurt before district.  They put up 45 on North Forest, most of that in the last three quarters.  As far as the game in four Fridays in Dayton, the Broncos reloaded with way more fire power than any team around.  The offense in the 4th quarter of the Barbers Hill game was almost all sophomores and they still scored a td on the Eagles first string defense.

If you will remember last year the only team that Crosby dominated was Dayton, but they won all of there district games. They seem to play up the the level of their opponent. It will be the same again this year.
All I gotta say is "game conditions".. Crosby won fair and square but I guarantee that they are hoping for 3 inches of rain on Oct. 29th. Heck, it worked last year
