Rajon Rondo

Recommended Posts

Talked to a friend who told me about a spirited discussion of this topic on another board.  I thought it might be interesting to get various views about Rondo and where he stands among the upper echelon of guards in the NBA.  I, for one, think he is very under rated.  Seems like Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Jason Kidd, me ;D,and Chris Paul all get a lot more credit than Rondo does.  Yet, guess who is still playing and guess who is most responsible for the fact that his team is still playing?

I started this same thread a few months ago and nobody agreed with me that he's better than all of them I think the only one you could argue would be Nash and I'd still take Rondo

Nash a better outside shooter but cannot compare to Rondo in quickness, rebounding, and, most of all, defensively.  I am still in disbelief to see him jump over Kobe Bryant from behind without fouling him and tipping the ball in the basket.  Bryant turned around afterward and was in  total shock.

I still think Rondo is helped by the fact he is the 3rd or 4th option on the floor. Defenses don't key on him much. Still though I think he has turned himself into a top 5 PG in the NBA and he is finally starting to get credit. With that said I hope he costs them the next 2 games ;D

He's the number one defensively he runs the Celtics offense like a machine and he's playing for his second championship I can't think of any others filling those shoes

If the defenses keyed on him, the rest of the team would have a field day.  Speaking of not keying on him, Kobe Bryant was first team all NBA defense and Ron Artest was brought to LA because he is a "defensive specialist".  That hasn't had much effect on Mr. Rondo.

I like Rondo's backup, Robinson. I think he could start for some other team.

What a shot by Rondo when the Lakers were trapping the inbounds pass and Pierce threw it to Rondo, who laid it up high off the glass......unbelievable body control right there.

I still think Nash is better, but Rondo is right there.

Exactly. That's why they don't key on him. That helps him compared to guys like Chris Paul who is all his team has. Also Bryant and Artest don't guard Rondo. Fisher does. And what little Bryant has guarded he has considerably slowed him down.
If Bryant had slowed him down, Lakers would be up 3-2 right now.  Sorry, Bryant has not slowed him down considerably.  As Rondo goes, so goes the Celtics.  In these finals, he has played 40.8 minutes per game, shot 42.3% from the field, 33.3% from 3 pt range,27% from free throw line, 6.2 rebounds per game, 7.4 assists per game and 14.2 pts per game.  Bryant obviously has average more points but has fewer rebounds, fewer assists, and Rondo is averaging close to half the per game turnovers of Bryant.  Additionally, Bryants field goal percentage is virtually identical to that of Rondos.  It seems to be fashionable for everyone to worship Bryant and to find fault with whomever the opponent is and what they do.  All I can tell you is that the game score suggests that Boston is every bit as good as LA.  ( we will know that for sure by Thursday night at the latest)Boston has also achieved this with their starting five experiencing considerably more foul problems than the Laker starters.

No, in the few minutes Bryant has guarded Rondo he has been slowed. Fisher guards him most of the time. You were just saying how 2 great defenders in Artest in Bryant havent been able to slow him down, well they arent guarding him... but in the few minutes Bryant has guarded Rondo he has been slowed compared to when guarded by Fisher. Also has he really on shot 27% from the FT line? I know he isn't a great FT shooter but i didn't realize that bad.

I guess its a matter of how you interpret "slowed down".  IN my opinion, the Celtics are leading this series because Rondo is achieving what he needs to achieve whether its Fisher trying to play tight man to man or whether its Kobe backing off about 6 to eight feet (some think its because he wants him to shoot, I think its because he cant match the quickness)

Deron Williams is easily the #1 PG in the league, ofc he gets no airplay except in the playoffs for being in Utah

CP3 puts up crazy stats because of their system.  The BACKUP point was putting up 19/9 whenever Paul was injured
I don't believe that anyone is "easily" the best point guard in the league. There are many quality point guards in the NBA and none of them is overwhelmingly better their peers as a group.

Rondo is the best pg in the league. Period
If Rondo would have had a mediocre jumpshot Celtics would've won the Finals, his shot is just plain awful though.

And he shot something retarded like 30% from the line, lol'd
