What happened to Johnny Dishon

Recommended Posts

I heard he redshirted there is a rumor that he might transfer after this season.

Well I saw a few games last year where he was actually in the bullpen in catchers gear.  Seeing the outfielders they have coming back next year, and with him redshirting this year, it seems like it might be hard pressed to be a regular...(Depending on What Chad Jones does in football)  Is he going to be in Blue and Gold next year?

Rather than having people 'guess' at this:

1.  Johnny redshirted at LSU this season.  It was his decision.

2.  He is not transferring.

3.  He will compete for 1 of the 2 open spots in the Tiger OF next season.  He has received that assurance from Coach Manieri.

4.  He is playing summer ball in the Valley League and is hitting nearly .400.

Having redshirted, did he have the option to travel to Omaha with the team?

No.  NCAA limits # that can travel...plus he was ready to start playing and left for summer ball immediately after Regional was completed.  FWIW:  Johnny had 3 run HR and double last night.

Nice job. The Valley League has become a top-notch summer collegiate league. Lots of talent up there this year. Not to mention one of the most scenic areas in America, IMO.

Best of luck !

He would have gotten the fifth year either way. LSU grants a fifth year to players that have exhausted their playing eligibility. The difference is that the fifth year granted after doesn't effect scholarships. With that being the case, it says a lot about what the coaching staff thinks of him, and so to remove any hint of vagueness.....They were willing to use scolarship on a kid that was not going to contribute this year, but shows real promise for the future.

Saw a special on former big league manager Mike Hargrove (Indians & Mariners), and aw he is managing in a Summer League in Kansas for college athletes. Is Johnny playing in this same league?

Hargrove is coaching the Liberal BeeJays in the Jayhawk league. The Jayhawk league lost a couple of teams this summer that moved to the M.I.N.K. league ( Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas ). The Mink league now consists of 10 teams. My son is playing with the Clarinda, Iowa A's in the Mink league. Johnny Dishon is playing in the Valley league ( Shenendoah Valley )....very strong, competitive summer league. I forget which team Johnny is playing for. You can google Valley League and find more info. Excellent website.

    • What the writer stated wrt crossover votes in the primary/runoff: "Covey and his supporters Paxton and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said Phelan only won because Democrats crossed over to vote in the Republican Primary for him. Paxton said Covey’s campaign identified “at least” 1,442 Democrats who voted early in Jefferson County in the primary runoff. However, only 5% of that group had voted in all four previous Democratic primaries. What Phelan’s opponents did not mention is historically Democratic Jefferson County is undergoing a political transition towards the Republican party — the county judge switched his affiliation to the GOP in 2017 — so many residents have a mixed primary voting history.
