What made it strange was after the play... officials went to both coaches for quite a while. The white hat went to the Silsbee sideline which was quite odd as Silsbee maintained possession. It left the umpire discussing with the HF coaches. I assumed there was going to be an inadvertent wistle that would have given HF the ball but no advancing of it as the player recovering the ball was not down. Not sure if the officials deemed in was not a fumble or if there was a fumble but an inadvertent whistle before the recovery. The long discussion leads me to think an inadvertent whistle stopped the opportunity from a recovery of the fumble and Silsbee simply maintained possession. However, it may be that there was no fumble according to the officials. Again, the strange sequence after rhe play leaves me still not sure of the official call on the field other than Silsbee maintained pissession. Can confirm that an inadvertent whistle killed the play a split second before our dude with 4.5 speed and nobody between him and the Silsbee endzone recovered it. Silsbee took the lead the next play. What’s even wilder is we recovered a fumble in bounds the play before and it was ruled out. Quote

Couldn't see that side from my vantage but it was obvious that play was stopped from a whistle. The fumble before was a good call. It's not easy to strip Haegyn, much less twice in consecutive plays. Tough runner but HF Defense showed out. I've never witnessed a 2 min disaster like what occurred before half. Talk about opportunistic defensive plays! Broussard is a beast and made some throws under pressure that was impressive. Side note: Several game altering calls. That particular play will be the one everyone talks about, not the blocked XP, 6 sacks, 2 TODs late in the game that the Silsbee defense needed to pull it out. Great game. He dove for the ball but possession wasn't maintained until he landed out. It was a heck of an attempt but he landed out. It was close. Could have went either way. Great game by both teams. Whichever team lost would have some complaints after this game. Quote
Boogy1000 Posted yesterday at 01:32 PM Report Posted yesterday at 01:32 PM Silsbee's defense had a great game for sure. All around great game for the Tigers! Quote

I’ll leave it at this: Silsbee played a fantastic game. They should be proud of how they performed. The defense bottled us up for most of the first half and the offense was on fire, jumping out to a big lead. At the end of the game the defense got some huge stops to put it away. On the flip side, HF showed incredible resilience. Opportunist defense and some huge plays by Broussard and company completely turned the game around. What looked like a Silsbee blowout turned into a game the horns were in a great position to win. They should be proud of how they bounced back. I consider myself to be pretty articulate, but I’m really struggling to find the right words to express just how much that blown call affected that game last night while still giving the tigers the huge amount of credit they deserve for a fantastic performance, so I’m going to quit trying. Congrats on the win, and good luck moving forward. Maybe we’ll get a chance to run it back in a few weeks. football life and Silsbee92 2 Quote
Boogy1000 Posted yesterday at 02:05 PM Report Posted yesterday at 02:05 PM I think the Top 3 teams in this district go at least 3 rounds deep. WOS has a chance to make it back to state. Id love to see a Silsbee vs WOS rematch. Quote

AggiesAreWe Posted yesterday at 03:22 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:22 PM Keeping HF to just 222 yards total offense was a fantastic job by the Tiger defense. Lowest output yardage wise all season for HF. WO-S kind of laid the blueprint out in the 2nd half of their game with how to defend HF. Mix coverages up and bring the house. A defense can do this if they have the speed at linebacker and the secondary can cover. I have been saying this for a while, HF just doesn't run it well enough (or emphasize it enough) to keep good defenses from having to worry about the run game therefore they can bring the heat off the edges without being hurt up the middle. It showed again last night. After staying up late last night watching the game, I believe Silsbee had 5 sacks and countless hurries on the HF QB. I have always said the best pass defense is a great pass rush. Silsbee being able to mix the run with the pass (kind of like what WO-S did) on offense kept HF on their heels that first half. The 2nd half played out like Coach Smith likes to do it. Grind it out and see who is the tougher team. It was a little bit harder for Silsbee to run the ball after their main RB went down in 1st half. This after losing their other main guy two weeks ago. Morris did a tremendous job taking up the slack. Good win for my Tigers. I guess one can now say the actual district championship game was last week and not two weeks ago like some claimed.😉 STiger85, Boogy1000 and Who That 2 1 Quote

bullets13 Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago Who invited grumpy uncle Sal to the party? Also, have you watched even a minute of HF football this year? We were an inadvertent whistle away from shutting Silsbee out the final 30 minutes of the game last night. Would’ve been 7 or 8 consecutive stops I believe. We shutout Hitchcock and LCM, and our first team d held Vidor to a field goal. They scored 70 last night in case you didn’t see it. We also played a great defensive half against WOS, but wore down late. Like every defense in the state we’re going to give up points to quality offenses, but I’m pretty confident saying at worst our defense is above average. We may or may not go three rounds or further, but I’d sure like to understand what you’re basing this statement on. Quote
1970 Posted 12 hours ago Report Posted 12 hours ago I was talking with my neighbor today about this game and he was telling me about the accidental whistle, and I misunderstood. So the whistle was blown before the fumble, which killed the play at that point, so that there essentially was no fumble? Dang, that's pretty tough. I guess the ref had his whistle in his lips, ready to blow at the end of forward progress. BTW if the whistle is blown after the defender already has the ball and is on his way down the field, is the ball placed wherever the runner was when the whistle was blown? Quote

No, he fumbled, one of our guys jumped on it but didn’t recover it, and I can only assume the ref thought he had it and blew the play dead as the ball bounced to another player who was picking it up and was off to the races. The ball had been out for a decent amount of time when he blew it dead. as to your BTW: I believe so. He blew it about simultaneously with our player picking it up, but there wasn’t a tiger within several yards of him. It was a really unfortunate error. At higher levels I believe the “clear recovery” would’ve been awarded at the spot after a video review, but the rule is clearly different in high school. Quote
spidersal Posted 1 hour ago Report Posted 1 hour ago I base it on giving up 42 to WOS, most in the 2nd half and giving up 31 to an always overrated Silsbee team AggiesAreWe and bullets13 2 Quote
