Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 Per UIL for a school to be defined as magnet then every student must be a part of a magnet program. Central and Ozen only have parts of a magnet program. They have regular students that attend as well. Ok, makes sense now. Quote
bullets13 Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 I think Lumberton, Silsbee and Kountze should merge into one Mega school. We could call it Big Thicket High School. A combined enrollment of 2242 (Lumberton 1109, Silsbee 782, Kountze 351). There would be some good games between PAM, WB and BTHS. Hardin-Jefferkountze would have some REALLY good basketball/baseball/football teams... Quote
bullets13 Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 This was a really interesting read.... Quote
87JAG Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 Although the schools call themselves magnet schools, they are not magnet schools. They only have a magnet program (that most student don't participate in). Westbrook's enrollment has not changed, but the athletes go to other programs. A couple of years ago BISD stopped providing free transportation to transfer student. They tried to force a lot of kids to go to Ozen, because the enrollment was low. This was prior to the money situation. Like Bigcam said, just watch who's winning and that will tell you where the kids are going. Quote
Mr. Buddy Garrity Posted February 14, 2015 Report Posted February 14, 2015 I wonder how its gonna work out next school year for the main two male sports since all 3 schools made the football playoffs and bball playoffs. Quote

ozensfinest Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Very interesting topic, I think 1 school in Beaumont would be EXTREMELY beneficial athletically and financially for Beaumont, however a lot of kids would lose spots. Although it would never happen I definitely wouldn't be against seeing Beaumont having one school. I'm kind of indifferent on kids being allowed to go wherever they want though, I mean its a free country right? Lol I really don't have a problem with it me personally especially since its been that way for so long. Quote
Aces_Full Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 Would you say that being able to choose schools out of your attendance zone provides a competitive advantage for those "magnet" schools? Quote
87JAG Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Would you say that being able to choose schools out of your attendance zone provides a competitive advantage for those "magnet" schools? NO. Remember the door swings both ways. There are kids zoned for every school that wants to attend somewhere else. What the coach failed to state is that he hasn't established himself or his program as a winner. You always gonna have die-hards for certain schools, such as myself. The coaches are really courting the Janet Jackson crowd who want to know what have they done lately. Every one wants to play for a perceived winner. Quote
