Top Freshman playing Varsity in SETX.

Recommended Posts

My point remains the same. Can't be too many freshmen making impacts on boys varsity teams.

And on another note...if you have a freshman not good enough to start, why have them on varsity

Say he's clearly the 6th best player in your program. And the starting 5 is established as they are older physically built better and overall just better. But the Freshman like stated is also clearly the next best option were one of them to drop due to injury, grades, transfer, or lack of production. Then why would you have that player on JV or Freshman team when he can help you varsity?

You say that like having a good bench on your team doesn't matter or like the starting 5 play the entire time. You can be a bench player, and come in play defense and lock somebody down. Maybe you are a shooter and need a quick 3. Or a couple 3's. Maybe you need rebounds, and you have a big man that might do better than your starter one game.

If they're not good enough to do it the entire time put them on JV. Every minute of a JV game will benefit more than "come off the bench to knock down a 3" in a varsity game. Can't replace game experience.

Trust me I have no problem with the playing of younger kids. If a freshman is as good as a senior...the freshman plays everytime in my opinion. But if they aren't gonna play a lot...give them minutes on JV.

I get what you are saying. But if the freshman comes off the bench and is getting significant minutes, I say ya keep em up there.

At Kelly we can play our players on more than one team. The past few years we have had Freshman players that started and played the entire Freshman or JV game and then came off the bench in the Varsity game. True it's not good for a player to be moved up and just sit the bench the majority of the Varsity game if he isn't playing on another team. But getting him used to the speed of the game at the Varsity level makes him better for his sophomore year. So playing them up is good if they are capable of being productive at the Varsity level.

On the subject of the best Freshman in the area, I believe all of the kids mentioned are making a considerable contribution on their varsity teams. We played against the Cleveland and Woodville and Christian Williams and Jaylon Williams are the real deal. Parquet, Barnes, Sneed and Chatman are playing on much deeper teams in terms of talent and are still contributing. And Sneed has no idea that he is a freshman. That boy plays like he is about to graduate. NO FEAR lol. Jomard Valsin is certainly in this group.

Or the daddy takes the coach out to eat. (oldschool2, you need to catch up with new age basketball). smh

By the way..it really is funny. And you can call me naive, stupid, outdated...whatever you want. I just refuse to believe. Way I see it..not all cops are corrupt..not all women are bad drivers..and most coaches coach to win.

I can't help it. Check the name...I have too much "old school" to feel otherwise.

I completely disagree....I have yet to meet a good female driver :)

Nice video but Parquet is the best incoming sophomore in SE Texas. Kid played in the regional quarters last year as a freshman with a broken rip and just flat out stepped up against a very good Houston Sterling club. Kid can take the ball to the hole and FINISH but can also pull up and drain the 3. The sky is the limit for this young gun !!

He is a nice player but has some consistency issues.  The rankings will support my post.  One service already has Williams in the top 50 nationally, the only kid in our area on any such list.  But I forgot rankings mean nothing.  Unless you are interested in going to college, of course....

But please keep in mind I am a big fan of Eli.  BIG fan.  I just believe right now this kid is a little better.

Disagree. I watched Parquet and Williams last year. Both are fantastic players but Williams is the better of the two, IMO.

    • This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up   I wish the Ohio AG much success...from the article: Ohio’s Republican Attorney General is pushing back against critics after warning that anti-Israel protesters wearing masks are facing potential prison time due to a little known state law. "The First Amendment protects you and saying whatever it is you have to say. Even hateful things are protected by the First Amendment," Ohio AG Dave Yost told Fox News Digital this week. "The First Amendment, though, was always designed to be a shield against the government. It's not a sword against your fellow students and they have rights too. Your First Amendment rights are limited by their right to be able to go to school, use the library, get the value of their education and the tuition that they paid for." In a letter sent on Monday, Yost warned university presidents of a historic state law that could mean masked anti-Israel demonstrators on college campuses could face felony charges.  "The law is an old law," Yost told Fox News Digital. "It goes back to the 20th century, and it was originally designed to make sure that people like Ku Klux Klan were held accountable, that, of course, the reason that the Ku Klux Klan wore hoods and masks over their faces is so that they couldn't be identified because they were committing crimes. So the General Assembly in Ohio said, okay, you can wear a mask, you can wear a hood, that's fine. But if you commit a crime with two or more other people, while you are masking yourself, we're going to see that as a heightened kind of crime, a worse kind of thing, because you're consciously doing this and trying to hide your identity because you know you're doing something wrong."
    • You keep pointing at the fact that Biden got so many votes as proof of cheating, when it’s actually proof of something else… Trump motivates people to get off of the couch, register, and vote for ANYBODY BUT TRUMP.  And instead of looking in the mirror and recognizing that the problem is you (the person who nominates a candidate that most people HATE) you blame the people who vote against him.    Haley pulled down 22% of the votes in the most recent Republican  primary. Those votes were cast AFTER she’d already dropped out of the race.    Trump is going to lose the fourth consecutive election cycle since he beat the even more unlikable Hillary in  2016. The Dems learned from their mistake (nominating a despised candidate in ‘16). The Rs keep nominating the same guy that most people hate and expecting different results.    Dems roll in November.
    • Not yet, anyway. If you can't see that there has been a strong effort to create gender dysphoria amongst young folks AND try to keep it from parents in many instances, you're not paying attention. You may not care about this, but it's ridiculous to ridicule those that do. There is an agenda behind this, no doubt about it, like bullets pointed out earlier, it's just a name change...for now. And it was only very recently that girls were allowed to join the "boy scouts", they have been allowed to join certain other groups that weren't available to girls at the time. It's the frog in the slow boil.
