what would those reasons be? just curious....
Reason #1- Read Carmello Anthony's bio. Kids learn in different environments. Some learn better in private schools with smaller classrooms. Anthony struggled in public schools. Oak Hill gave him a structured environment to learn.
So Anthony went to  Oak Hill for academic purposes?
Read his bio.
I have.  I wonder if his problem with skipping classes also changed when  he went to Oak Hill?
OAK hILL IS A VERY STRUCTURED environment. In Anthony's case and many other kids, this environment is good.

Sounds to me like the rest of the schools in this country could stand a little more "structured environment"?
most of them really could... Not sure if you were being sarcastic.

Not sarcastic at all.

I was not the one who opened up this topic in a public forum, I merely asked a question. If Elam is past the age of the current high school student as well as his graduation date due to a lack of effort on his part, his parents part or bad instructors then it doesn't change the fact that he should not be on the same "level" playing field/court of the other students. Again, I don't know his age but if he will see the age of 20 before he moves that tassel to the other side then it's wrong, period! We all have rules and regulations in which we have to adhere to and if Mr. Elam doesn't have a learning / medical disability then this is simply a case of athletic favoritism. If he earned it or deserves this "clearance" then so be it, but if this was a group of adults that lobbied to give the program a better chance to win then shame on them......

Much ado about nothing anyone should be concerned with.  It's cleared with the Uil.  This is nothing more than what some others in district including HJ and WOS have dealt with in the past.

Time to look forward to the season.
Exactly.....This was all cleared with District 21-3a leaders and the UIL. Let the kid enjoy his Senior season.

Once again a biased opinion that doesn't know the facts..... Chris has only 3 years varsity experience.  He was merely brought up to the team for the playoffs for what would have been the first year but he never touched the floor thus he has only participated three years and even if he hadi posted a uil rule which stated that you could only participate 4 years from the time you enter high school which appears to leave it open to participating whole I'm jr hi.  That rule doesn't matter in this case because Chris has only participated three.  I have asked for a true explanation of that rule and never recieved a good answer.

This is more about the UIL as a governing body than it is about the kid.  Being pulled up for the playoffs and going to the state tourney gettin medals seems like participation to me.  If it's not and there is no benefit for the kid or the team, why they do it? UIL is weak, always takes the easy way out. Eventually they will lose funding as they are not living up to their purpose. Congrats to the Tigers, but it will take a lot more than this to even up with what UIL ignores in Dallas and Houston.

I didn't know you could have fifth year senors in high school...
This is Chris only 4th year at the high school. He did play JV as an 8th grader.

There are circumstances that allow certain students to play sports at an older age.
