    Great American Backyard Campout
Today is the Great American Backyard Campout! When was the last time you spent a night out under the stars? Tonight, thousands of families will set up a tent in the backyard or a local park to celebrate life in the great outdoors.

The Great American Backyard Campout is sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation. It is an important part of the organization’s “Be Out There” campaign, which is dedicated to getting children outside so they can enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle. Camping out in the backyard is also a wonderful opportunity to observe and learn about the wildlife that surrounds us every day.

    Public Service Day
Happy Public Service Day! In 2002, the United Nations declared the first annual Public Service Day. The purpose of this occasion is to highlight the contributions made by public servants all over the world. Today is a great day to change up your routine and volunteer your time to help a cause that is important to you. If your schedule is jam-packed today, plan to do something later in the week when you have more time.

There are many causes worth fighting for in your local community, your state, your country, and the world. Whether you help out at your local food pantry, clean-up a park, or walk dogs at an animal shelter, the opportunities are endless! Volunteers are always needed in schools, nursing homes, fire stations, or churches, so be sure to get your friends and family involved too. Remember that every act of compassion and kindness, no matter how small, can make a difference!

    International Fairy Day
It’s International Fairy Day! Today is a day for fairy believers young and old to celebrate the stories, magic, and history of the Fair Folk. For centuries, fairies have been an important part of Celtic culture. In all of the ancient legends, these mythological creatures are described as intelligent, mischievous, and magical. They have the ability to fly and cast spells, and they live in “Tír na nÓg,” the land of eternal youth. Mortals don’t often see fairies because of the division between the two worlds, but sightings can occur at twilight or during Beltane, Mid-Summer’s Eve, or All Hallow’s Eve.

In his 1904 play Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie wrote that when the first baby laughed, the laugh broke into a thousand pieces, and that was the beginning of fairies. International Fairy Day is the perfect opportunity to relive your childhood fantasies and celebrate the joy and magic of the fairy world. Read a classic fairy tale, build a fairy house, or take a stroll through the woods. You never know when you might stumble across something magical!

We are 66 days away from the start of the Texas High School Football Season and today is......

  National Catfish Day
Today is National Catfish Day! Catfish is a versatile and delicious type of fish that is usually associated with Cajun-style cooking. In fact, about 95% of the nation’s catfish comes from Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana. In traditional recipes, each catfish fillet is coated with a blend of spices and then fried or blackened in a cast-iron skillet.

Did you know that catfish is one of the most sustainable species of fish? Most of the catfish we eat is farm-raised, which is very eco-friendly. In 1987, President Reagan declared the first National Catfish Day to recognize the importance of the catfish farming industry.

To celebrate National Catfish Day, fry up some homemade catfish for dinner, or head to a local Cajun restaurant to sample a little taste of the South!

  National Chocolate Pudding Day
It’s National Chocolate Pudding Day! Did you know that dessert puddings can be traced all the way back to the 17th century? During that time, a “pudding” was actually a very moist cake (similar to a modern-day bread pudding or plum pudding).

The sweet and creamy confection we know and love today emerged in the mid-19th century when an English chemist named Alfred Bird developed an egg-free custard powder. This remarkable invention made it very easy to produce a delicious pudding with the perfect consistency. Today, pudding is a popular dessert all over the world.

  National Handshake Day
Happy National Handshake Day! Today, we celebrate one of the most common greetings between two people.

Did you know that handshakes have been practiced since at least the 2nd century B.C.? Many researchers believe that the handshake originated in the Western world. It was a gesture peace, demonstrated by the fact that the hands held no weapons.

Today, a handshake is offered upon meeting or parting. It is an expression of goodwill, gratitude and congratulations. Many people believe that a handshake reveals something about the character of the person who gives it. A firm handshake reflects a confident personality while a floppy handshake reveals a shy one.

Today, go ahead and give some nice, strong handshakes. Make sure not to grip too tight!

  National Waffle Iron Day
It’s National Waffle Iron Day! Today is an important celebration for all the breakfast lovers of the world. Homemade waffles are one of the cornerstones of a delicious morning meal, and the waffle iron makes it all possible.

Waffle irons originated in Belgium during the 14th century. These early contraptions consisted of two metal plates hinged together. The plates were then attached to a long pole, which allowed the cook to hold the iron over an open fire. In 1869, a man named Cornelius Swarthout patented the first American waffle iron. This device was designed for cooking waffles over the burner of a wood or gas stove. Fifty years later, General Electric began producing the first electric waffle irons for everyday use.

  Meteor Day
Today is Meteor Day! The word “meteor” refers to a visible streak of light that is produced by debris falling to the Earth from space. We also call this beautiful phenomenon a “shooting star” or “falling star.” The tradition of wishing upon a shooting star can be traced all the way back to 127 AD. Ptolemy, the Greek astronomer, hypothesized that the Gods occasionally liked to peer down at Earth from the other world. From time to time, a star or two would slip past them and fall through the heavens. Anyone who saw a shooting star knew that the Gods were paying attention so it was the perfect time to make a wish!

Did you know that shooting stars are actually quite small? The average meteoroid is about the size of a pebble. Around 15,000 tons of meteoroids enter the Earth’s atmosphere every day, but very few of them actually reach the surface. When they do, they are called “meteorites.”

International Joke Day

It is celebrated on 1st July. This day is prominently for laugh out loud with your friends and dear ones. International Joke Day may appear to be no serious stuff for many but the day speaks volumes about itself. Joke day can be an awesome opportunity to act humorously and laugh your heart out.
History of International Joke Day
Although the creator or the origin of the day isn't very clear and known, it is still celebrated around the world as it a happy holiday. It is said that laughter is a remedy to all ailments then why wait for any other day than the “International Joke Day”.
It is believed that the first joke originated in ancient Greece by Palamedes. He shot to fame for outmatching Odysseus before the Trojan War. A laughter club was first formed in 350 BC. That indicates that humans have always enjoyed cracking jokes and having a good laugh. It is the primary nature of humans to swap jokes and witticisms and this is what keeps us apart from animals.
How International Joke Day Is Celebrated
Many people across the planet are suffering from pain and agony. Reasons may differ but it is certainly a painful sight to witness suffering people. But on International Joke Day, everyone can spread a little laugh to not only to their near and dear ones but also to the entire world. There is no bigger exhilaration in this world than being happy and spread happiness. Cracking a zestful joke or two, making funny gestures, rotating mirthful videos, passing jokes through email etc. are all those activities that are mostly popular on July 1.
It is said that laughter is contagious. The more you laugh, better are the probabilities of you attributing to make the world a better place to live in. Medical science has also accepted that laughing enables you to fight off illnesses by catapulting your immune system.
