  1. Newton has never been and never will be scared to play anyone. Barbay didn't play EC because he wanted to play a better program that would make his team better. We had just got done beating you guys down the year before in district and the year before that. He didn't want to play a game that wouldn't make his team better.

Newton spanked EC in 2005 but they were darn lucky to get out of Winnie with a win in 2004.

  2. Man, that's good to hear.  I don't know much about knee injuries.  How can he play with a torn ACL?   Seems like he would risk more damage if it's not repaired. ???

Whether it is partial or a full tear, he risks further damage to the knee by continuing to play. If you want to play bad enough, you'll take that chance.

  3. True Story.

About 15 years ago, a guy that worked for me was running chains at a JV game in Stinnett, Texas (located in the Tx Panhandle ..... you'll understand the significance later) when a player got his bell rung making a play. The coach needed to assess his player's injury and it went something like this.

Coach: "Do you know where you are at?"

    Player: "Stinnett"

Coach: "What are you doing here?"

    Player: "Playin' football."

Coach is feeling pretty good since the injured player has gotten 2 out of 2 correct but to be on the safe side, he gently turns the player so he is facing the scoreboard and asks "Son... can you tell me what the score is?" The Player responds " Coach .... I can't see the scoreboard because the palm trees keep getting in the way!"

Injured player was finished for the night.

  4. From East Chambers web-site.

Defensive Player of the Game - Tramain Thomas - He did an excellent job of getting us lined up properly and making plays all over the field.  His stat sheet is as follows - 8 solo tackles, 5 assisted tackles, 1 Tackle for Loss; 2 Interceptions; 1 Pass Defensed.

Paul Trammel made his first appearance this year on defense and had an outstanding game also.  It is great to have him back in the middle; it will really help our defensive unit.  His stats were as follows - 5 solo tackles; 6 assisted tackles; 3 Tackles for Loss; 1 Sack."

  5. Just something I was thinking about also. Everyone is raving about Lumberton beating Dayton. Thats great for Lumberton, but does anyone remember H-F outplaying Lumberton in a scrimmage this year? Does that mean Lumberton is not that good? Or is H-F pretty good? I think H-F will surprise some people, starting this Friday against H-J. H-F has to win this game to contend. I wish they had school that day,I think it screws everything up. My son will not go to the Rice Festival Friday and tire out,I hope no other football players go either.

I agree 100% about the Rice Festival being a distraction. EC will be out of school on Friday and I would support our coaches if they told the boys to report to the fieldhouse at 8:00 AM on Friday morning. I believe staying with normal routine on game day is important and helps keep the guys focused.
