I just visited Doc Young's and there was no talk about that scrimmage there. Of course, I was pretty busy giving Harold  some first hand opinions about the Newton scrimmage.  Newton didn't shine against Shelbyville either. 2-0. Scrimmages are just that, scrimmages. Next Friday night everybody will get a lot better look at the real teams. Optimism abounds, what about a Newton, Kirbyville, WO/S appearance at NRG....that would be sweet.

Kirbyville will be fine, they have the athletes and coaching.  Just gotta get the chemistry and everyone on the same page.  
  Defense has some new faces that are still learning the system and will improve over time.   
I think what they just experienced in newton will benefit and humble the players as much as it will help the coaches.  Better to happen in first week rather than week 10 or 12.  Now you know where you stand.  Seniors time to step it up.  

you know why I asked right?  I think the team is in good hands while W.T. takes however long he needs to get healthy, obviously his staff has things 100% under control

I was very impressed with the Eagles tonight. Offense and defense was very strong. 
I counted 5 Newton scores to 1 Kirbyville score but I was keeping up with some youngin's too so I may have missed one! 

Aggrivated won't make this one,  I don't have radiation till 4pm today.  I trust championeagles and newton nation will give us an unbiased report on how it went.  

He tore his ACL and missed all last season and has been in rehab all year to get back to planning. He tore his other ACL during practice.
'' meet the players'' last night- good looking group of kids, varsity and JV. some good size kids on varsity and JV. New band director and several good assistant coaches added.
I was told that  W.T. was in Houston taking treatments and having some minor problems that they think will get better and his immune system gets better. When your immune system is low it takes longer to heal from the problems you get. Keep W.T. in your prayers.
It's great to have Bryan with us, he brings a lot to this program.

It's a primer and it will be hot. The Newton bunch will be ready, but don't expect the Newton coaches to do much more than put kids in a lot of different positions and see how they respond. See which ones want to play and which ones don't. I want to see the Barbay kid under center with a game situation. I've been by the practices a couple times this week and he seems to be pretty confident and knows what he's doing in the system. Tanner Holmes will like getting to hit somebody besides the purple jerseys and some of the purple jerseys will be glad to see him hit someone else too! I'm not sure if Coach Johnston will make it out for the game. I know he wants to be with these kids real bad, but I personally would like for him to remain home and continue to build his strength and heal. After all, it's just a scrimmage.......

Just goes to show how important our game is. Let Newton realize they actually had a great team. Let WOS realize losing really sucks and you cant overlook anyone no matter who they might have lost to previous.

No one, and I mean no one, including myself, saw Newton in the State Title game when they stood 1-3 after losing to Orangefield last year. So predicting title games with or without Newton is pretty crazy. We will play well, at times. It's all about when that play comes as to titles. WOS didn't really look like State Title contenders on a certain night last season either, but look where they wound up.

I went by the practice field Monday and took a few pictures and talked to the coaches. Newton has roughly 65 kids out for JV and Varsity which is pretty good numbers for us. I liked what I saw in coaching from Tabor Westbrook. Intense, demanding, yet taking time to teach as he goes. The players were kept busy moving from station to station with coaches teaching at each one. From what I saw I believe the players have stepped it up a notch this year in both attitude and intensity of work. Tanner Holmes will tag you. but so will some others. Blake Kelley seems to be picking up where he left off last year and that is good news. Barbay at quarterback is throwing the ball well. Kirbyville comes over Friday evening for a scrimmage. Should be interesting.

We don't matchup well with Tatum. Henderson won't be a pushover simply on numbers. Knocked like 12 out of the game last year and they just kept filling the holes off the bench. WOS at home. Crockett in Crockett ain't never easy. You don't get better playing pansies. Newton made it through tough games with few injuries. If we can do that again, we could go deep in playoffs. Not enough kids to be able to absorb key injuries if they happen.

​so many of em its confusing, sorta like the Armstrongs and Hadnots and Bronsons in Jasper County (Jasper and Kirbyville) 

EB will basically have the same team as last year, pretty good all around team, it's no always accurate to compare past games but look at blanco  vs EB last year Blanco14-EB7, Newton 48- Blanco 21, newton has some key starters returning and some weapons that are being put in to play, again I myself think the eagles could be as good or better than 2014, the young cats and the returning letterman had a taste of the "SHIP"last year and wants some redemption, we could have another rough preseason but that rough preseason is what put us in Arlington

The only reason Newton is playing Tatum and Henderson is no one else in the Golden Triangle would play them. Size of schools has a lot to do with it, and I understand this. Everything these days is money driven. Newton cannot produce the gate revenue other teams do. Just a fact. It upsets me that we can't put people in the home stands until the playoffs. Newton fans are spoiled to winning. Period.
