  2. I think another big thing being overlooked is confidence. You can't just think your going to catch the ball, you got to know your going to catch it.
  3. You can come to Newton. I have a couple extra reserved seats.
  4. I use to tell my wife that it was not in the rules, but it happened on numerous occasions and the opposing coaches never seemed to be upset with it. They seemed to want to get the game over too.
  5. I was reading about the kid in Arizona that threw 9 touchdowns and the article said the running clock was in use. I have seen it in Newton in years past and I always thought it was due to an elderly clock keeper. Some of the officials use to do everything but cartwheels trying to get the clock stopped. Now I know this opens up "the cheaters" deal but when I'm referring to the use it was always 5 to 6 touchdowns difference in the score.
  6. It's easier to say it than do, but I think really you have to learn to absolutely close out everything(including the last one that you dropped) and simply watch the ball all the way into your hands. Everything else happens after that.
  7. Does Texas UIL have a running clock rule? In other words at some point in a game that is by the score unwinnable, does the clock continue to run?
  8. I think it is one of the most difficult things in the game of football. Most people never have the chance to try it, so they don't know. Watch the ball into your hands, don't let defense intimidate you, don't try and run before you catch it and on. Everyone in the stands sees the play. Everyone is a critic.
  9. Continually reading post about "Hit him right in the hands" and "He was wide open". So I was wondering if there are any thoughts on "How hard can it be" to catch a pass in a game?
  10. i agree 100%! like ive said in previous posts we were beaten by a superior team this past friday. the area should be WELL represented in the playoffs this year and i hope someone can bring home the title... Excellent! I agree. Maybe even multiple titles in different classes!
  11. WOS does not bother me at all. I've said in the past many times what a quality program they have and how much respect I have for Coach Hooks. It's a few fans and my Newton Eagles have them also that absolutely will not aknowledge anything negative about their team. You can be a true fan without continually argueing that the only reasons you have underachieved is due to your players inabilities or referees flags. Sometimes the other teams simply out play you.
  12. I can't believe WOS coaches don't have more to do than worry about what a goofy public board has to say about their offense! But stroke is stroke!
  13. I remember those years as well, but had long been only a spectator. Granger was a great athlete. I also remember not liking Peveto all that much. He could get very animated on the sideline. But all that is water under the bridge now. Newton seems to struggle early this year and pull games out late. Should be another exciting game this week.
  14. THat may be true but they still went on to win state last season in 2A,,,, Gilmer will win but not in a blow out. Yes they did. And I don't think them or Newton can touch Gilmer right now. ;D
  15. Don't know anything about Daingerfield this year, but Newton showed last year that if you hit them every time they look up they will turn the ball over. I think Gilmer is probably going to take this one.
  16. Yep. Driving in from Newton your going down farm to market roads and all of a sudden here is their facility and school. Nice stadium. A bit small on visitors side, but good field.
  17. You must realize your at a disadvantage.
  18. What I thought was a gym next to the stadium, I was told was an indoor practice facility that had come from LSU. Is this true?
  19. IMO some of the long time posters(maybe even from WOS) could do with reading this.
  20. I'm afraid I would tend to agree with you T-daddy right now. Jasper is definetly on an upswing with confidence. But it would be a meaningless game. The playoffs is where both teams should start to focus as being ready to go now.
  21. So it makes you OK to look down from the mountain at everyone else. I should have known by your post that your a johnny come lately. And I didn't say twenty years ago, I said for twenty something years. Big difference.
