  1. Should be good game in week ten. I respect Kirbyville for realizing their shortcomings in years past and went out and got a talented coaching staff (key members trained by Newton including head coach) and a former Newton coach in administration that has helped in putting it all together. The highest form of flattery is imitation. Ha, ha, ha. ;D Just kidding guys, don't go all ballistic.
  2. Sloppy, sloppy game as most were this week. No comments. Try again next week.

  4. There's just one thing, Coach Barbay became an assistant coach in Newton in 1968, not 1974. I think Bennett will be the starter.

  6. Now that you have said what you mean, I have no problem with what you have said. Saying that the defense is not adjusting and playing well I think is still OK. If the defense continues to give up points and yardage at the current rate we will not go far in the playoffs. This is not dumping on or running down the kids. This is my opinion. I think the old saying defenses win championships is absolutely true. I'm also very aware from personal experience that it is easier to sit in the stands and say what is happening than to be on the field and trying to do something about what is happening.
  7. I do make the meetings and I do listen. The Coach never slams his team in an online forum and neither should the fans. The Players do read what is said about them and their Coaches on this site. My mistake. Newton is the greatest team ever and will never lose another game because we have the best defense in the world. I don't think there has been any kids slammed.
  8. If "dumping on" the D is what you call what Coach Barbay has said in public, so be it. Come to the quarterback club meetings and listen.
  9. My wife called and said that Newton elementary (and I'm assuming the high school) will be out until Monday. Weirdly the middle school has not been closed as of yet.
  10. I didn't realize there was a catergory for broadcasting fashion! No wonder I'm always behind in my clothes choices. I just got a shirt with a collar last week.
  11. My wife teaches at Newton Elementary and was complaining this morning that they still had to go to school when the High School gets to stay home! I felt bad for her a second, then told her to shut up and go to work! JK!
  12. How about adding plaid burmuda shorts, argyle socks and flip flops to outfit for loser.
  13. It's true as fans (and former players) we at Newton are probably spoiled and have high expectations that our team play well week in and week out. And unrealistic or not we don't think about will we win district or not, it's about how deep in the playoffs we will go. That's assuming an awful lot by us. This probably makes us more critical when we think that certain parts of our game are hurting our chances to do this. I'm guilty as charged. But having the experience of playing in so many playoff games and only winning state 3 times we may also have a little better understanding of what it takes to get to that magical pinnacle.
  14. My hats off to Orangefield and their new coach. Came in ready to play with excellent gameplan on offense. Execution was good and quarterback was outstanding at his fakes. Defense has a little further to go. Congrats on the way ya'll played and I agree that you had your chance to win it. Another year or so under this coach and look out.
  15. The only thing I know is the defense is not making adjustments as the game progresses. Weaknesses are exposed and then taken advantage of by opposing teams offenses.
  16. I agree 100%. We never adjusted linebacker play and Orangefield ran off tackle and trapped our butt up the middle all night. Eaglefan01 dosn't see it that way, I don't know what game they were watching. If we can't adjust gameplan as the game unfolds, we won't be going very far in the playoffs. Once again team speed played a big part in this victory. Orangefield could play spoiler in their district.
  17. Me too. I would say that must be close to 1200 yards total offense for both teams. It was amazing. Orangefield you guys have got you a coach and a team of kids that play their hearts out. Good luck the rest of the year. As I said earlier, exciting game.
  18. You have to start with kids even knowing what "respect" is. Some don't seem to have much of it these days. Having said that, your side of the field. Most time the coaches gather the kids in a group to talk to them. Don't need that too close to the stands. And I have seen the kids gather in the middle with members of both teams and say a little prayer. No problem there.
  19. Coach Barbay is not looking past Orangefield. He said he wasn't going to save anything for "round two" He was going for the knockout. He said Orangefield players are buying in to what their coach is teaching and should get better week by week. He said that Silsbee had come out with a lot of focus and intensity last week and looks for the Bobcats to do the same. Should be an exciting game.
  20. Coach Barbay said La Ray has a torn ligament in his ankle and does have some screws and stuff in that ankle. He is in a cast. Rehab is telling him worst case would be 8 weeks to heal. Coach Barbay said he had never seen this particular type of injury so he was unsure of really how long Alfred would be out.
  21. He plays for Newton. I will be headed to the booster club meeting at 9am and will ask Coach Barbay.
  22. Maybe Memorial Stadium, Austin. That's where I'll be! :
