1.
And I'm pretty sure that if Kirbyville was to say this game don't mean anything and go along with what (not the)champion(right now)eagle said it would be heard from Nov. 4th til the next time they played.  I'm completely understanding what you are saying but do you think for one second that either team would let the other one use that as an excuse?  I don't.
Back when only the district champion advanced to the playoffs, I would totally agree with you. Now, this game doesn't have that same feel or importance. The chances for a state championship are the same for both teams, reguardless the outcome of this game. How can that compare with only the winner advances? The only advantage is which school goes big school, as there is one game less to play in the big school bracket. This game will not change that. Kirbyville will go big school, Newton in little school and nothing is going to change that.
2. Obviously you don't know much about Coach Barbay. Win, yes. At all cost, no. What coach would want to win at all cost a meaningless game when the games that you need to win start the next week. No time for healing, working replacements , etc. I don't think any coach worth his salt would be that ignorant, including Barbay or Alverez. Now the fans are a different animal. A lot of them are ignorant. They think a win in this game is what the entire year is about. If they are satisfied that a good year is beating Kirbyville or beating Newton, then that's great for them. I don't think that would be a good year if you lost the next week in the first round of the playoffs. The playoffs start a whole different feel for the team and fans. Lose and your out. That is when win at all cost comes in to effect. If you don't win you go home.
3. I agree that we need to bring the championship trophies to southeast Texas. The game has to be played, but I hope that both teams come out with all their players healthy. The winner I don't think is that important as both clubs will need their guys in the weeks following to make a run at bringing those trophies home. Personally, I could care less who wins. Let's make 22 2A a district to be respected by all others.
4. Your totally misreading what was said. The post I made has nothing to do with Kirbyville and last year other than they lost the big game. It has to do with whether Newton should go all out to win a meaningless game. Some of my friends in Kirbyville last year wanted to make it a big deal that they won. I told them I was glad for them and that it seemed to be such a big deal to them. I also told them the truth in that Newton had lost lots bigger games than that loss including in the state championship game. It changed nothing as a win or loss will change nothing this year in the Newton-Kirbyville game.Newton has done exactly as Kirbyville done last year, got to the big game and lost. But we also have gotten to the big game and won three times, how many does Kirbyville have?
I understand what u mean, but why would u not want to win a district championship? Newton has not played very well this year especially in the first half of ball games, they need to play a good caliber team like Kville and they need to play them hard for 4 qrts and know Kville will do that, they want another district championship along with a state championship. Newton needs to improve a little before playoffs and they really need to play Kville like its a playoff game to get a little warmed up before the real competition comes like Dangerfield if they make it that far, If Newton continues to play like they have the last 5 gms they will not last long in the playoffs. So prepare to see a battle in week 10 Barbay is not going to back down in a quest to reclaim the district championship.
Your youth shows. There is nothing gained by winning a district championship or having a "tuneup" game. They will have played 9 games time this game gets here. If that is not enough to "tuneup", your in serious trouble. I agree Newton has not played well at times, but I think it is more scheme than talent. What would a district championship mean if you lose say your starting QB, or starting nose? What kind of let down would you face the next week in the games that count if you build it up and lose? Since the advent of multiple team playoffs the shine on the district crown has been removed. It doesn't matter if you win district or come in second or third, as long as you have a chance to advance in the playoffs to the state championship, which is the real prize. IMO it would be foolish to risk your chances for that prize on a meaningless game just to be able to thump your chest locally and hollar we're the best when in fact your not if you don't take home the big prize. Kirbyville found this out last year as they were district champions, but lost when the real prize was on the line.

7. I don't believe WT is the defensive coordinator. He is coaching the secondary I think.

"I pay taxes therefore I can say what I want". "Its my first amendment right".  Yes you do pay taxes but so do the coaches, Yes its your right but its also other peoples rigth to see you as a fool. The same guy thats badmouthing the coaches from the stands is usually the same dad thats acting as the coaches friend, always hanging around the fieldhouse glad handing them.  We all know the old saying. Every team needs that perfect coach who knows when to play the best kids, in the right positions, run the right plays, run the right defenses, make all of the exact correct adjustments....... But they can't get him to put his popcorn down and come out of the stands.
And we also know coaches that don't know these things. Knowing these things also doesn't make the person automatically then use them correctly. Opinions are opinions. Any job that is "public" based has the same things. Coaches are not alone. Police, Firemen, Soldiers, etc. all get the same thing in different degrees. Some coaches also look for any excuse to justify their dismal performance, including telling the kids on the field that the "experts in the stands got his job" a direct quote. Not all coaches deserve to be followed blindly.
Those that can, do.   Those that can't, sit in the stands and arm chair coach...
And those that only THINK they can are blind to reality.
I think we have some things mixed up here...Though I can't speak for anyone else, I see the "problem parents" as those that foam at the mouth in the stands, making all kinds of ugly comments to everyone around them regardless of whether others may want to hear them...I was one of these at one point in time...a boorish know it all.  I've mellowed, and I've also had experience on the "other side" of the coin...which is why I mellowed.  I don't see commentary on this forum about an AD/coach's preformance as bashing, but more of a discussion about where the team is headed, especially if it is 3 seasons into the guys contract, and the team and athletics in general has suffered.  You have to be respectful about it, but it's legit. In the stands screaming negatively, going on the field and bowing up on someone, standing by the dugout where a team can hear you mouthing off, all of these are the types of behavior that I think most of us are against.  Slamming on the refs?  Any idiot can do that...at least be creative and funny in your negative comments...beleive it or not, a ref or umpire will laugh, and maybe get the point better than when you look like you're going to burst a blood vessel.
Here Here! Good job of stating what I thought this thread was about and in my clumzie way could not say. Couldn't agree more.

12. Cursing and insulting a Coach's family is not what this thread says. What makes it totally wrong to question a coach's decision on the field from the stands? They have chosen this field in which to pursue making a living for their families. And yes as long as I pay my taxes I think I should be able to express my opinions without having to hide in a corner and secretly write them on the wall. This does not however include cursing them or insulting their families. Neither of which should be defended or condoned.
13. For the most part ya'll have no idea what is considered appropriate for schools to do these days. By your post you think these things are up to the parents to decide. Wrong. These "guidelines" are already in use and supported by the state. I too think there needs to be a return to parents disciplining their kids. The reality is that a lot of young parents have come to expect that the schools provide moral and ethic education as well as academics. This is easy in that the parents don't have to be the heavy in the childs world and can be their "friend". And it lends itself to "blaming" someone else when things go wrong. The blame needs to start within the person first.
14. Ok then. Do you support a fan yelling at the refs/coaches all game and then after the game coming down on the feild getting in the coaches face screaming at him? Thats what Im reffering too. That is not what you said. Your talking as if some incident is common knowledge, when it's not. If your going to condemn something, you should be articulate enough to prevent confusion. By the way, I don't support going down on the field after anyone.
15. Kids are one thing, but to expect that a coach or referee deserves absolute support is naive. They are grown people that have chosen to do this work. They have not been anointed. Some are great at what they do. Others are far from it. All make mistakes. I agree that no one in the stands knows what the game plan is and for sure does not know what each situation in a game a coach thinks about, but to expect blind faith is a little arrogant. I'm not saying anything about kids that are playing, but I pay my taxes that pay those mens salary and if I don't agree with what I see, I reserve the right to express my concerns. Maybe we should ban spectators all together and play these games in a completely protected dome of sterile atmosphere. Maybe we should have spectator police that traverse the stands to weed out all the "undesirables", maybe we should extend it to if they don't wear all the right colors, have the right signs painted, etc.
16. Our society in general has moved away from taking responsibility for one's actions to looking for someone to blame for one's actions. Kids, adults, all the same. My wife has taught elementary school for 34 years and in that time the school and the school district have been continually given more and more responsibility for not only the academic status but the social teachings of students. They are given directives to mentor kids from the time they are born until they are adults. Parents, in many cases, have shifted the difficult task of teaching kids right from wrong to anyone else but themselves. Then our all knowing government tries to legislate an answer for every possibility of wrong doing(hence the response of laws since Columbine). These laws in many cases do reach into the "private life" time of students and parents by the school district. In many cases these laws are enforced unevenly or sporadically in different communities. All the while the "Columbines" continue. Anyone ever think maybe the direction we have taken as a society could be wrong?

18. IMO the only game that really matters is in December.
19. She might know as much about running the scat from multiple formations as anybody! Been Dad's bread and butter since 1968.
20. It's not quite the entire family. Coach Barbay senior's oldest child is a girl, and I don't think currently she has a football coaching job, but I could be wrong.
21. Barbay senior's Newton team seems to be. But this is kinda like is the tooth fairy or the easter bunny better. You'll never know.
22. Could be a conspiracy involved. I witnessed Kirbyville and Hemphill coaches seated together at McNeese-SFA game Saturday! Were they comparing game plans? Was money involved? Should there be a congressional investigation? Surely there was more to it than just good friends enjoying a good game.
23. Ahhhh. A nerve exposed. I was just messing with you guys as I said. As Kirbyville found out last year it takes a lot of things to get to the state title game, including luck. I had some kinfolk playing on that team and told them this before the season even began last year. If things were decided on what was supposed to be there would be no need of playing the games. Intangibles as they say have a way of taking what was supposed to be and replacing it with what could have been.
24. You can choose to play up one classification, but if you look at the teams currently in 2A a lot of those were in 3A ten years ago. Some of this is number games by UIL, some of it is truly loss in student numbers in rural areas. Newton only has one state title in 3A, the other two are in 2A plus a state title game appearance in 2A. In '98 when Newton played Daingerfield, Newton was the 5th smallest school in all of 3A, not just the playoffs.
25. IMO it's going to be one of those games that comes down to who scores last. I think both teams defenses are suspect at this point and can give up scores at any point, as both have proven. It will come down to offense and breaking big plays. Kirbyville don't seem to have the passing attack they did last year, but good ground game. Newton lost some ground game when Alfred went down, but have some take it the house passing. Turn overs probably will play a big part in outcome. Should be real good game.
