1. Even after nine years in the community Evadale's homecoming parade is still amazing to me. If you have never been then you owe it to yourself to see it once. Farris Wheels with kids on them, waterfalls, firebreathing dragons, ships with cannons firing, those are just a few of the things I have seen. Who knows what they will come up with this year?

Kyle was present for awhile @ the great fundraiser benefit.Kyle was smiling wheeling around in a wheelchair w/cast on his leg.A relative told me he may never play another down of football but he may 1 day be a coach.Best wishes for Kyle and a big" THANKS"To all that worked and donated to make this a special event ;) 8) 8) ;)

Thanks for the update! It is great that he is thinking about the future and knows that being a part of football is so much more than playing. That part is great, but just think how boring this site would be if the only people that got to talk about football was the players. Good luck to Kyle as he presures his goals and I have no doubt that a young man with such resolve will be someone that is talked about on this site in the future as one of the best and brightest coaches in the area.
3. Had the opportunity to talk with him as we were getting the SETX All Star basketball games together and I concur that he is a class act and a coach that will be heard from for a long time. Evadale has had some great match ups with Spurger & Big Sandy in the past few years I wish him success as he moves into the assitant position at Big Sandy.
4. I will say this, HD having a proud tradition is great. I noticed in Texas Football that another proud school Odessa Permian is picked last in their distirct for this upcoming season. I do not remember ever seeing that while I admit I don't dwell on west Texas 5A. I also noticed that the coach that Friday Night Lights is based on is back at Permian.

I know that rich tradition is great for a school to have and the new schools rise to the top from time to time. Some of them are flash in the pans that come and go in one season while others seem to have a limitless stream of talent that comes in year after year. When I posted earlier on this thread all I asked was what does a district have to do to shake the weak district tag, Evadale more than made up for all the small schools in SETX over the past couple of years.

I want all the schools that are SETX to bring home the hardware regardless of the classifcation. All I really want to do is have credit given where credit is due. A program can be judged over many years, the last ten years the last couple of years or just last year and I believe that Evadale has earn some respect for at least three of the afore mentioned criterias.
5. So glad that football talk is back on the board! Not so glad that we are already back to the weakest district talk.

Just a thought...If your district has a team that makes it to the 3rd round in football, the state tournament in basketball last year and the state baseball tournament the year before how much more do you have to do to make it a tough district? Oh wait a minute, I know two teams from your district have to meet in the regional championship to be called a tough district.

Let me say this one more time. Evadale DOES NOT get to go to Austin and choose the district that we play in, the UIL does that. We report the number of students that are enrolled and the UIL places us in DII for football, Evadale DOES NOT get to choose the cut off for the divisions, the UIL does that. Burkeville, High Island and Sabine Pass field their teams, Evadale DOES NOT hand pick them for them, each school DOES pick how they put on the field.

I know for some 1A, DII and especially EVADALE will never be your favorite thing to write about or even think about. All we do is just keep on winning. What other school in the past 5 years has won as many games overall, or made playoff appearances or made it to the state final four than EVADALE. Our distant past might not be majestic, we do have two state titles since 2000, however, but could we just get our props that for "What have you done for me lately!"

6. This summer Evadale is playing summer league baseball and a couple of young men searched the internet for the most unusual mascot they could come up with...well I think they found it! If you google Banana Slugs you will find that it is the mascot of the University of California Santa Monica. They are a D3 NCAA progam and they are known as the "Banana Slugs".

The Banana Slugs "Evadale Style" will be made up of underclassmen from Evadale. The Rebels had 8 seniors on this years team and six of them were starters so the underclassmen will be able to get in plenty of work in the summer league to prepare to step in and perform in 2012.

The Banana Slugs schedule is
June 2 vs. Vidor 5:30 PM
June 7 @ Hampshire-Fannett (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM
June 21 vs. LCM #2 (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM
June 28 vs. LCM #1 (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM
July 5 vs. Orangefield (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM
July 12 vs. LCM #2 (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM
July 19 vs. Warren (DH) 6 & 8 PM
July 26 @ Vidor (DH) 5:30 & 7:30 PM

Good luck to the Banana Slugs and I am sure that the shirts will quickly become collectors items so be sure to order yours early!

8. Last Saturday night 19 young men from a wide variety of schools throughout the area participated in the SETX All Star Classic in connection with the Evadale Catfish Festival. This was a difficult game to get scheduled and the organizers learned a few valuable lessons to make the game or hopefully games better for next year.

Players from Silsbee, PNG, New Waverly, Kountze, Buna, East Chambers, West Hardin, Burkeville, Spurger, West Sabine, High Island, Big Sandy and Evadale participated and the crowd that attended was treated to some great basketball from a group of young men that have been thrilling fans fromtheir schools for years.

For one game players who have faced each other since games in Little Dribblers got to play on the same team or on the opposing team one last time. Players from 1A were matched up against players from 2A and 3A players. Each player had moments where they shined and they can say that for a brief moment all the players were equal regardless of where they played.

To the players, their family and friends, their schools and their coaches. Thank you for sharing your Saturday afternoon and early evening with us. We look forward to improvements in the game(s) and hopefully this can grow into a showcase event that will assist the players in making future plans that include the game they love so much.
9. Here is the latest on the All Star games

Due to the change we are aware that a number of players will be unable to attend. So unfortunately there will not be a girls game this year and only one boys game.

Game time will be 5:30 PM and players need to be at the gym by 5 PM with both their light and dark uniforms so teams can be adjusted.

We are sorry for this change, but we are guests of the Evadale ISD and with the rescheduled baseball game for tonight in Evadale this was a change that we had to make.

Please come out and enjoy this special game with some of the most talented players from all of SETX.
10. Hey do you have a car, boat, motorcycle, RV, ATV or something else that you want to sell? Are you getting people by to look at your item? Well if you would like to get some new people to see what you have to sell then bring it to the Catfish Festival in Evadale on Saturday by 10 AM.

In the parking lot near the festival there will be an area where you can bring your item to sell and let people take a look and all it will cost you is $5. The only items that will not be allow are firearms. So plan on coming and parking your item and letting people take a look. You might sell it! But you will be sure to have a great time at the Catfish Festival.

Oh there is a washer tournament on Saturday as well so you could pitch some washers, eat some great food, have some fun with the kids and if you sell your items you might even make money coming to the festival and how often can you say that about going to a festival?

See you Saturday!
11. The response from the guys has been great, but we could still use some girls at the SETX All Star Game tomorrow night in Evadale. If you have a girls that you know of who is graduating but played at an area high school have her give us a call at 409 276-1470. 12. just wanted to clarify that if a senior has not signed up or been contacted does not mean that we can't get them into this game. Call 276-1470 and we can confirm someone getting into the games. All players will need to be at the Evadale Gym 30 minutes before their scheduled game. 5:30 2A-4A guys, 6:30 e sure to bring both light and dark jerseys and encourage people to come and watch all the games.

The games are at 6, 7 and 8 PM on Friday night at the Evadale gym located on FM 105 in Evadale. The ticket price will be $5 and that will allow you to see all three games. You can make a night of it as you can eat some great food, enjoy some great basketball and support the Evadale Catfish Festival scholarship fund.

Call 276-1470 for additional information or to check on a play in the games.
14.
i think this is going to be a hard faught game both teams are very evenly matched bouth can hit 1-9 and are solid in the field but i still have evadale in two hard faught games
The hitting by the 1-9 batters was something we heard about with Broadus in last weeks warm up game and they got three runs and had 10 strike outs against Rebel pitching.

I am not worried about this round. I believe the Rebel take this series 2-0

I agree with the Bulldog...however, these Rebels are indeed a true enigma and they know what it takes to win in the big games. I suspect that they will go far. But to win state after losing so many players? So many key players? I know it has been said that the JV program is indeed up to par and that those who have replaced them have done an admirable job..with that said..let us play, let us consiously view these very playoff games. Then, and only then with incredible curiosity, will we be able to exclaim that the Rebels are indeed the best team in the vast state of Texas.
Oh silly Howard!
I would ask what you think is so many players? It was four to be exact and I can not see where the team has skipped a beat since last season. Are they a different team? Yes as is every team no matter what classification they play in. The two juniors that replaced senior outfielders from last year are doing a good job keeping the ball in play. The sophomore that replaced the senior 2nd baseman has been consistant and a good bat in the bottom third of the lineup. The committee that has replaced the senior pitcher has not lost in 15 straight games and the only loss the Rebels suffered this season came on the Saturday after the basketball team came back from Austin on Wednesday.

This group of Rebels has been to the last two state tournaments, baseball 2010 and basketball 2011. They reached the regional quarterfinal in football this school year. This is an exceptional group of athletes that have posted an 80% winning percentage in all sports during their four years of high school. That is very impressive when you take into consideration the struggles in basketball their freshmen and sophomore years. I do not see this team falling short of their goal again.

The Rebels have to continue to take each opponent one at a time, but I believe that at the end of each series they will be singing yours and Dandy Don's favorite tune to their opponents..."Turn out the lights the parties over...It's time that all good things should end..."

JMO mind you, but with this team and these players I can say I have been right 8 out of every 10 times
