  1. Coop, I notice that put this in Hunting and not the Locker Room. Suggesting that we kill it maybe? ;D
  2. Central is rated a bit high but they can't get them all correct. You must work for the Beaumont 'Suprise' with a comment like that! They never show us any love! I just wanted to see if I could get a rise out of Jags. Apparently not. ;D
  3. It's the Hamshire Falcons and the Fannett Longhorns. They got too big and split into two schools for next year.
  4. I think everyone knows that the more sports you play, the more skills you develop. That is not any issue. So what is the issue? It is not a skills issue but an injury issue. The more sports you play, the more chances to get hurt. I don't think there is anyone with half a brain that doesn't know the more things you do, the more skills you develop.
  5. Yeah, I don't buy the complaint of money spent. Put a kid in a one room schoolhouse with a volunteer teacher that is willing to teach and a student that is willing to learn and all that is needed is a Big Chief tablet and a #2 lead pencil. There is no need for computers, air conditioned school houses, separate boys and girls gyms, etc. Those are all nice things to have but we managed to put people on the moon without them.
  6. I think everyone knows that the more sports you play, the more skills you develop. That is not any issue.
  7. What percentage of athletes get scholarships? Out of the ones that do, how many lose that chance due to an injury? If a student is such a stud player that a scholarship is almost impossible to miss and if he/she decides to play that one sport then I am all for him/her. Go for it. For the other 97% that want to play other sports, go for it. Either way, I would support what the student wants to do.
  8. I would encourage a student to play only one sport when they start paying them for their service. Otherwise, play all they want. It sounds like some people want to make them a professional class athlete or are trying to live vicariously through the student. Let the the kids have fun in as much as they wish. I think that any parent that requires their child to play one sport is doing a poor job of parenting. It may be their right but that doesn't make it correct.
  9. why wouldn't you? I wouldn't. As far as any real information or predictions, the magazine is fairly lame. Not bad to kill some time and it has a certain mystique about it that sort of brings in the yearly high school (and somewhat college) football season. As Kelly says, it gives something that can be read about football..... but I won't spend my money on it. I will pick up someone else's copy and read the local predictions or maybe just read them when they are posted on this forum. ;D
  10. But they were axed for minimum academic standards which I am going to guess is talking about TAKS. TAKS is based on percentage of pass/fail, not the number of dropouts. If 500 students take the test and 250 of them fail, then it is a 50% passing percentage. It doesn't matter if 300 students dropped out that didn't take the test. If that is true, then the district's TAKS rating is probably better off with the dropouts. I would bet that a large percentage of the dropouts would not have passed anyway. It would increase their failure rate if those students stayed in school and failed the tests.
  11. I have been wondering about what the high gas prices and the cost of feed will do to the deer leases and especially the trophy leases. I suspect a lot of people will be giving up their leases next year. Of course, if there is someone to step up and take their place, it won't change anything. I was hoping that maybe enough people would not be able to afford the leases due to supplemental costs and the prices would drop somewhat. I guess that is wishful thinking.
  12. WHAT? You don't want snapper that costs you about $45 a pound?
  13. Yeah. I think that can be a fairly dangerous stretch at certain times of the day when the tide is moving and especially when the south wind is blowing.
  14. Whats wrong with shooting deer off the mirror of a truck??? lol I heard of a guy that shot a deer off of the mirror of a truck but I am wondering how the deer got there in the first place. ???
  15. You needed to capitalize (and make larger) the "IF"...... not the "LIKE". As always, the "big" IF.
  16. Of course you would think that, you are his teammate and probably friends with him. The fact is, how can you make an objective & fair evaluation of someone who played mostly MLB with limited time rushing last year? Josh Wright had a lot more time rushing the ball last year. You will see!!! You will really see considering you are a LB for PNG. Since when are opinions required to be justified and when do they have to be objective and fair? If we quit posting subjective opinions, we might as well shut down this website. ;D
  17. That is the deal. If the community doesn't like what the board is doing, vote them out. If a majority of the community agrees with how things are being run then there must not be much of a problem. If you look at the Port Arthur school board for an example, they seem to change some of those members like playing musical chairs. The citizens don't like what is going on and keep changing them. Of course, it seems that they have yet to find five people that can make intelligent decisions but at least they keep kicking out the ones that they don't like.
  18. I will continue to disagree. My use of the word "meddling" is from the other post. It is the school board's business to know what is going on in the district and to step in with the rules that they are allowed to make. Go back and read my original post. I said that it was the superintendant and principals jobs to do the day to day running of the district. In my opinion that is correct. The school board doesn't step in and make day to day decisions, discipline teachers, set schedules, etc. They most definitely can "meddle" in the district's business however. That is what they are elected to do. Change the term if it makes it sound more politically correct. The school board controls the district.
  19. Football is just a more interesting sport to more people. Most other sports (with maybe the exception of basketball) tend to be boring by comparison. I am not saying that all of them are boring but compared to football, they are. I love most sports, have played many sports and like to watch them both live and on tv. None compare to football however in most people's opinion, at least in Texas.
  20. You can't because it is a political system. You can't have a politician run for office and not have politics. It is the nature of the beast. The mere fact that someone runs for office is political.
  21. Go figure. Not hard to figure out huh Penny? Can you say, straw man?
  22. New because the others are worn out but with keeping the same look or a new style altogether?
  23. How do your replace a publicly elected set of officials that have to vote on taxes that run a school? It is impossible. So you want people appointed that set your tax rate and deem how to spend your money with no accountability to the taxpayers? Meddling in school business if the job of the school board. That is why they are the "School" board and not the "Grounds Maintenance" board. Not the day to day running of schools which is the superintendant and principals but how the money is spent and who is head coaches and athletic directors is. School boards are publicly elected. If you don't like the results, vote them out. Whether a school board or individual members are performing well should be made known at the ballot box.
