1.
I heard PNG will not Sheffield use the Jumbotron to show the game and replays, is this true? Why?
Fresh off the press:  PN-G has granted permission for STJFL and Sheffield Productions to use videoboard as part of stadium rental.    Only problem - out of town service tech needs to make computer adjustment to board to accept outside video feed ( example: Sheffield Productions or any outside videocrew ).  This procedure approved by PN-G, but technician coming from other side of Houston and not available until next week.  Outside chance modification can be made for weekend of Nov 14 for PN-G vs Ned allstar teams,  but no promises.    Bottom line. . . . special thanks to PN-G ISD, business manager Cheryl Hernadez and High School tech/media dept for doing the right thing, but it probably won't be in time for this weekend or next.                                            disappointed but understanding,  see 'ya on the field ( but not on the board )                                                                   videoguy
2. [If we gave you at least 3 last week do you need 3 more copies this week?
You make a very good point.  Extra copies/requests not needed.  Our announcers have kept all previous rosters and this is an appeal to the teams ( flag and all ProBowl ) we haven't got to see or tape yet.     thanks, videoguy
3. Hey coaches, Moms and Dads - help us out here.  Final Superbowl weekend and we still need for you to bring rosters for our announcers and stadium PA. Three typewritten copies, numerical order with first and last names.  Yes, we still appreciated that single handwritten copy last Saturday ( you know who you are!!) but there is no copy machine in the booth and it was pretty hard to read.   C'mon people,  this is for those young players.  We want to credit every player that steps on that field and we would like to call him by his correct name and number.  It is such a small thing to ask for.  Help us out on this one easy item.    see 'ya on the field, videoguy
4.
videoguy - Are ya'll going to record the ProBowls also?
Yes, Sheffield Productions will record ProBowls and Superbowls at the Reservation.  DVDs will be ready as soon as possible after each game.  see 'ya on the field
5. Sheffield Productions is a "home-based" production company; even after 25 years.  Home/studio number: 409 722-3661  or email at [email protected]
6.   A special thanks to LC-M school district for making the scoreboard and Videoboard as part of the affordable field rental.  Nederland ISD did the same last year and everyone at the stadium got to enjoy the video "feed" from our Sheffield Productions trailer.   LC-M and NHS video crews at both of these stadiums do a fine job every friday night putting their teams on the bigscreen , but doing this for the play offs would add to the price of the stadium rental fee for STJFL.  Offering the board as part of the rental is a fine gesture to the fans and league.  For the play offs, this is gesture and advantage will enable fans seeing the same image that is going onto the DVD that we sell at the play offs.  That image,  along with the replays, plus the fine commentary by our announcers Charlie Jehlen and Danny Bellow make for a great family keepsake of the game.            thanks LC-M for doing the right thing,  see 'ya on the field, videoguy
7.
Hey videoguy  ,,,  can ya"ll try and do some short interview with the head coaches before the games ????   I know in my SB video from last yr , they got the kids to introduce themselves , but nothing from the coaches!!
L-train,   we would love to have interviews with coaches before the game, but time is short.    Sat, we introduced the teams playing for the 1:00 o'clock game, but that was the only one we had time for.  Time is just too short between games.  As the teams head together for the handshakes, our announcers finish with the game summary and we go to roll credits on the end of the DVD.  Note that the field clock already is counting down 9:00 minutes to the next game.  Credits take 45 seconds, video takes 90 seconds to "write" to DVD and then 6 - 7 minutes to "finalize".  Only then can we kick it out of the deck, send it to the booth for duplication.  And we are doing this with two decks at the same time, using one for a "backup".    By then the teams are on the field ready for coin toss or kickoff and we had better have our next DVDs ready, which took 30 seconds to "load" and be ready to record.      Basically our cameraguys and announcers had less than 9 minute breaks between games and for the ones up top it takes that long just to go up and down the bleachers.  The crew in the trailer didn't get a break at all!!   The intros that Charlie and Danny did on the track at the beginning of each DVD this past Saturday were done that morning way before any team arrivals.  Right after that we did introduce the players from the first game, but did not have time between the games to do the same for the other pairings.  Teams or coaches had not arrived for us to "pre" load them on the DVDs like we did with our announcer's intros.  We did toy with the idea of interviewing one team's coach that was there,  but decided against that as we pre-figured on the flak we would get if we did not get the other coaches interview on there later.  Folks need to understand that this is going on a DVD live , un-edited and in the order that we record it on that DVD.   Yes, I think the video is missing an important part by not having player introductions on the front,  but because of late arrivals, logistics and other factors;  this is best done right before the game and coaches and player"s "mindset" is getting ready for the game and not being on camera.    Even if we pre-taped the coaches interview or intros, we would still have to load it onto the master DVD and you have seen that we don't have time between the games to do this.  Looking for a solution here, but need some help from STJFL and the spacing of the games.    I didn't even address the fact that there is no lunch break for the video crew for the next two saturdays.  Fans don't realize we don't bring two full crews,  but have a complete crew with a few subs to give crewmembers a short break while taping and games continue.  Taping and announcing from 9:00AM until after dark is a lot to ask with no lunch break for the crew.   OMGosh, did I answer a question and start whining in the same post?  Another one of my long-winded posts.  Are you getting an example of what my camera people have to endure??      Sorry, see "ya on the field, videoguy
8. Sheffield Productions request from our Announcers : " Appealing to the 12 teams left in Pee wee , Junior, and Senior.    We sure could use team/individual stats for our broadcast Oct 31 at LCM Saturday.      Thanks to all the coaches this past Saturday who brought us 3 copies of rosters , in numerical order with first and last names- -  one for the stadium announcer and one each for us.  Yes, and we still appreciated the one handwritten one.  ;>)   Parents, Coaches, you have access to stats and stories on these young players that we as announcers do not .  Examples:  stats on yds, receptions, passes, catches, big or little brother playing this league or on HS or middle school team or having sister as cheerleader.  Looking for some help here , just trying to make our broadcast better.  Look forward to seeing  you at LCM. . . allllll day long. "   Please PM me and I will pass any of this info on to our announcers .  By using PM , Charlie and Danny advised me the other coaches will not get an advantage in case you have a "sleeper";  and if you do they won't find out until they watch the DVD.   Special thanks to the Mom ( that didn't want credit ) that brought the homemade cookies to the booth and trailer. Yum, yum!!    Good luck to all in the next round.  see 'ya on the field, videoguy
9. I don't care how much it costs -- I'm buying one! Will U be the one selling them? I sure would like to meet you! Thanks! Queenb, I will be in the production trailer ( white trailer marked Sheffield Productions ) directing the shoot. My boss ( my lovely wife Cathy ) will be selling DVDs while my brother Lew is on the field as acting "field director". Sister-in-law Liz will be in the trailer with us as role of tech director. OMG, now everyone knows why it's Sheffield Productions. Well, not everyone in the crew has that last name, but everyone is like family and most of the crew has been with us the 15 years that we have been taping High School football. Of course that's not even counting sons, nephews and grandbabies. . . when they can make an appearance. Sheffield Productions since 1985. see 'ya on the field, videoguy
10. TD, First of all, I do not take it as whining. I am really sorry when something like this happens. Too far behind us to do a full "Cold Files" investigation on what happened, but the mistake probably came down to one or two things though. 1) The name was wrong on the roster ( maybe/probably not ). 2) My announcer screwed up and said Davis instead of Dallas the whole game because we were furnished a hand written roster, on a wadded up scrap piece of paper, written in script minutes before kickoff. . . after being asked repeated over the PA to deliver one to the booth. My good intentioned announcers translated Dallas to Davis and said his name incorrectly the whole game. Actually there is a #3) My announcers just totally screwed up and pronounced the name wrong. If you knew how hard they worked to find correct pronunciation for all those names you would want to eliminate this one, but it does happen. Hey, I just called announcer Charlie Jehlen and was reminded one announcer wears bifocals and the other one needs them. No names here ;>) Bottom line, for whatever the reason or excuse, I do feel bad and extend our apologies to young Chad Dallas and his family. This is the perfect time to repeat our request for 3 TYPE WRITTEN rosters ( one for the PA, 1 for each of the 2 announcers) with FULL FIRST & LAST NAMES and numbers in NUMERICAL ORDER. It helps if the list is delivered by someone that we can ask for help with any of the correct pronunciations. Many times the list, when delivered, is presented by a younger player or someone that isn't even familiar with the players or names on the list. All of this is needed before the game starts. Added note: if one hears a name wrong over the PA. . . there's a good chance it's probably being said wrong on the DVD broadcast. Please send a runner to the booth with a correction. Chad Dallas, hope we see you in the play offs and superbowl bound again this year. TD, thanks for the valued input, the sponsorship, and for buying the DVD!!!! see 'ya on the field, videoguy
11. Ms Queenb, one of our favorite fans and supporters. Although play off DVDs have been $25 in the past, this year The DVDs are $30. Tax is still included as part of the price. In our defense: sales the last two years were good, but not as much as we had hoped and we are still supporting a full crew out there all day and making the DVDs on location. Most of our customers know and realize that ALL our other multi camera shoots, ( graduations and dance recitals ) have been $30 for years. Anyone that has gone out of the area to watch and buy a drill team, dance recital, or cheerleader competition DVD know these sell anywhere from $35 - $50+ P/H and tax. We feel our production values and quality levels (featuring a full game with announcers, multi camera angle and replays ) are worth as much as any of those "out of area" video companies. I hope this $5 increase does not offend or aggravate any of our proud parents and customers, but I did wish you to know why the increase and what we tried to do the first two years. see 'ya on the field
12. As stated in an older post, Sheffield Productions will be taping games and offering DVDs for the STJFL play offs. We will be at the following sites on these dates. Oct 24, Bridge City HS Oct 31, LC-M HS Nov 7, PN-G HS Nov 14, PN-G HS for Jr Mid-county Madness Our full production team, along with announcers Charlie Jehlen and Danny Bellow, will be there complete with multi camera and replay capability. At LC-M and PN-G the video boards are "supposed" to be part of the stadium rental and fans and players alike will be able to see our camera work on the video boards of these two stadiums. I wish we could cover all the games at all the sites, but we only have the one crew and these are the games the league has asked us to cover. As in years past, DVDs will be ready for sale and pickup ASAP after each game. We would like to again thank STJFL for inviting us back and allowing us to be part of these games. see 'ya on the field, videoguy
13. This is a re-posting from last season for our new and old customers to quickly explain what we can and cannot do with the camerawork and taping. We do regret that DVD you have purchased does not have the visitor's side and the visitor sideline closeups like the homeside, but several posters were right when they pointed out cable length is the limiting factor. We use 500' cables to get the shots that we do . 500 foot is "pushing the signal " limits pretty stout. We have tried sending a camera cable down the track, around the endzone and down the track again ( 800' +) but the picture was too degraded to use. We are also limited to pressbox sides of stadiums because of pressbox facilities for our announcers. Even though Ned has a visitor pressbox; we needed to stay on the home side because of the tie-in to the Big Video Board. Last but not least, wireless systems ( at least for one camera ). . . we tried to rent one from channel 6, 4, or 12; but they don't have them for the same reason we don't -- the expense. Another good point and input was about editing. We are shooting the game directly to DVD. NO editing or corrections can be made to the product. Basically the product is like "Live TV". When we do make mistakes, like our announcers saying someones name wrong, it becomes part of the final product. I regret our audio and video mistakes and the taping is not perfect, but how else could one start making DVD copies of a game just minutes after it ends? Thanks to all coaches and teams that gave us TYPED ROSTERS OF PLAYERs, IN NUMERICAL ORDER WITH FIRST AND LAST NAMES. This information in this form is priceless to our announcers trying to quickly find and name and credit these young athletes with their hard work and plays. Special thanks to Troy Jones and the league for the support and faith in what we try to accomplish in just a few hours time. see 'ya on the field, videoguy
14. Two of the three playoff sites have been determined. Bridge City and WOS will host the first two rounds with the third still TBD. Thanks to the good folks at STJFL and various sponsors Sheffield Productions has been invited back to tape and sell DVDs of all three weekend's playoffs. Our crew can only be at one location per weekend, but we will be there fully prepared with our multicamera setup, replays and announcers. As usual DVDs will be ready for purchase ( and pickup ) ASAP after each game. Your family can take home what is sure to become an instant "family keepsake" of your young athlete that can be viewed and shared for years to come. This is our third year to be invited back to tape the playoffs and we would like to thank STJFL and all those that have bought and enjoyed our DVDs for bringing us back. see 'ya on the field, videoguy
15. No sweat on the backup as two booster club members were quoted as saying "there is plenty of talent available at the middle school level if other backups are needed to deliver the grades". Even though there seems to be an abundance of bodies in the hallways capable of doing this, backups are in place and will be utilized. Grades will be delivered so starting lineups and potential starters can be penciled in for Friday's game. see 'ya on the field, videoguy
16. Reagan Hawkins, teacher at NHS, produced the DVD you are asking about. It was titled "Bragging Rights" and was very well done. Contact him at the HS if you wish to purchase one.

25. "The world is a stage" . . . and everybody is a "cover" critic. OMG, NO, you cannot please everyone all the time, but this year's cover is a good selection, imaginative choice, and gets all kinds of bonus points for originality. Way to go Examiner!!!!! Wait, wait - I know how to please everyone. Just have EVERYONE PLAYER from every team on the cover. So cool an idea why didn't someone think of it sooner? Then proud parents of EVERY PLAYER could brag and say their son is the third pixel from the left ; or whatever. Since I didn't make the cover, see ya on the field, videoguy
