Wait, so we lost an effective coach because of over-celebration? That sounds like something that should be more of a, “Hey, don’t do that anymore,” situation. Unless there’s more to it than is public.

There’s way more to it.  The incident apparently happened at Texan Live amongst a sea of purple.   I’ve heard what happened but this probably isn’t the platform to discuss it in detail.  Regardless, he’s not with PNG anymore.

I don't see either one getting there next season. I think new blood gets to Arlington albeit from both Region 2 and 3 which both of these schools are from. I'll disclose more after February, but my darkhorse is out of Region 1 and it isn't Argyle.

(This statement isn't for you @Mr. Thornton Melon 😞 ---->  Didn't mean to hijack the thread, yall carry on with whatever yall doing on here. 😎😁

PNG will be better next season

They were, but are back at PNI now for the first time in a few years.   I did my kid’s class Christmas party yesterday with his wife.  He’s a Nederland grad, with a business in Groves, that lives in PN.  I do think he should have recused himself from this game even though I think he did a fine job.  Just rewatching the game, he seemed to be the senior official. When the other refs had questions, they went to him.  He has reffed at some high levels including college.

The chain gang was from Vidor.  Maybe they gave us some 9 yard 1st downs.  😀

I thought it was odd too.  My wife went to the concession stand before the game and when she came back she said his name was listed as a ref, I was kinda shocked.  I made the comment to her at half “hell he’s definitely not helping us” 🤣 which I’m glad he didn’t do anything in our favor.  Just imagine if he’d been the one throwing the flags on that final drive

Why would you play down a classification.  You just won the state championship in 5A.

if I were 2 of those teams above ( WOS/Silsbee) I wouldn’t schedule PNG.  I know those 2 schools are afraid.  PNG shouldn’t schedule them. No win situation.

You really don’t have a choice unless you want to travel more during non district play.  It’s the reason we played BU the last 2 seasons, they were 6A by classification but worse than either of the 4a schools I mentioned

    You have to be joking.

I know several single women who don't care for red headed men.

Isn't this a little "over the top"?

Next thing will be that he asks for a mil a year contract and folks will expect PN-G ISD to pay it.

I think the guy stays for a while and builds something pretty special. But let's pump the brakes a bit.

    It was a joke

New excuses from SOC.  The ref that threw the flag is a Nederland grad that lives in PN and with kids in PNGisd.  I’m surprised that they let him call the game.

Some SOC people are posting his TASO card online that includes his home address.  Is this public info?  Doesn’t seem very safe to be doxing officials and posting their personal info online.

Tyler is a friend of mine and he was the line judge yesterday.  He threw one flag all day, the illegal hands to the face in the 3rd quarter.  Nothing he did yesterday was under debate from their fans until they found out where he was from.  .........

You are probably right.  But, IMHO, this Dodge will not win a State Title.  Joseph did in his second year.  Dodge is a good coach.  But does he have what it takes to win a Title?  Once they realize this will they then make a move?  Only time will tell.
PS — they think he an do what his Dad did:  not gonna happen!  Again, my opinion!

They were neck and neck with Desoto for 4 quarters.  I’d argue SLC was the 2nd best 6A team this year.  I just can’t see Jeff leaving.  There’s no competition in the area in 5A and he’s got full control.  Could be wishful thinking, just hoping he’s still here when my son is playing varsity in 5-6 years

One more note that I think is worth adding:

PN-G is the only program in SETX to make it past the fourth round the last two seasons. If I'm not mistaken, it's the only large school program in the area to do so since 2018. We have other programs in the area that I think are on the cusp (e.g., Memorial, Silsbee, Jasper, Newton, Hamshire-Fannett, and Lumberton) or have some potential if they can figure some things out (e.g., Nederland, WO-S, and maybe Vidor or LC-M), but for the moment, PN-G is the Golden Triangle's standard bearer in high school football.

There is potential for PN-G to enter a golden age akin to what WO-S was able to achieve under Dan Hooks and Cornell Thompson. If you're the parent of a Golden Triangle-area child with tons of athletic potential in a district where he either won't have the opportunity to start a la Roschon Johnson, or won't play for a successful program a la the Beaumont schools, what are the other area schools you're going to look at as a potential landing spot? Right now, PN-G should probably be at the top of that list. As previously mentioned, that won't be the case in Katy ISD with all the new schools opening.

In short, there is an opportunity available at PN-G that I don't think exists at very many other schools in the state. I think Joseph and company realize that at some level.

I’ve been saying this and you’re spot on.  Wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit to see some new faces on the roster next season.  This is just the start of something big.

I believe you are right.  Well, 99% right.  I think there is a caveat:  As I’ve stated before, if Westlake or South Lake Carrol wants him bad enough and makes offers worth his while I think that might sway him.  Other than that I think he’s staying.
Or if Nederland, well, never mind!  LOL!  Thoughts?!

SLC would have to move on from Riley Dodge and that’s not happening.

  10. A true champion shows their true colors during a loss.  SOC, South Dallas, and SOC supporters have shown their self today.  Taking one play out of 4 quarters of football and blaming that on the loss.  Trying to take away what PNG accomplished today.  Let's not talk about all the no calls on the SOC secondary.  The drive prior to when it was blatant PI in the end zone and nothing was called.  When Reid Richard is running down the sideline and gets tackled before the ball even gets there, no flag.  Blaming the whole game on one call is a loser mentality and lack of accountability.  PNG was the better team today.

  11. I was told by a source that he’s not going anywhere.  He’s looking to create his own dynasty separate from anything else he’s been associated with in the past.  He was looking for a place with huge community support.    He’s got that at PNG.  Katy will never be what they once were with all the new schools that continue to pop up around there.  There’s no threat of PNG having to build a new school, he can have this whole corner of the state if he chooses.

This will be a tough game. SOC, similar to Texas City, PAM, and a few others, they will push the envelope on personal fouls until they get a few called, then they back off but not without complaining. Last year the SOC coach really complained loudly at the refs for the PF calls.  The difference last year was the sheer athleticism of the SOC receivers. The passes were basically hail Marys, and the receivers and DBs were on their own.  Sort of like LH last Friday night.

I think the closest comparison as far as size and speed that PNG has seen is Fort Bend Marshall.  Granted neither team played well that night, FBM is a certified track team with athletes at every position.

If they clear out the lower bowl following each game, will our GA-tickets get us back in for the second and third games?  My group was planning to stay and watch all three games on Saturday.  Thanks.

Yes, they will just clear out the lower bowl after the PNG game so North shore or duncanville fans (whoever is home or away) can get those seats first.  Having said that, I watched the Boerne vs China spring game last year and they didn’t make me leave before our game.  It cleared out and I walked over and got the seats our group wanted
