No real argument there including band, drill team, twirlers, flag corps, etc. - except - at least for cheerleading (I can't speak on the others), all the uniforms, matching work out clothes for camp (5 outfits), many travel expenses, and other things are not paid for by the district. It's the parents who foot the bill.

100%... Wanting to be a cheerleader starts at an early age... Little league football.  Not little league baseball or little dribblers.

No doubt they spend a lot of time training and competing but cheerleading would not exist without football. Even the schools that don’t have football and still have cheerleading are supported institutionally by the schools that do have football. Cheerleading is part of the “football game day experience”

Well, I got a whole house full of 1 football player that played in college, 2 cheerleaders one of whom cheered in college. Football games are super important for the cheerleaders, but I would say 80% of their efforts (and my money) went to competitions.

Name one Texas high school sport that is bigger than football?!?!  I'll wait....  If it wasn't for football programs, how many other sports would survive?!?!?!?

As long as little Timmy or whoever gets to run into that field on Friday nights, the 25% isn't going anywhere.  If football folded... no more cheerleaders, drill teams, band would surlily dwindle.  I say that cause outside of football the cheerleaders may cheer at a few basketball games, same goes for the drill team, bands I believe do a little more like competitions.

The battle over multi sport athletes has been fought forever.....This didn't  start 3 weeks ago. Football is one of the few sports that is not played year round. It simply cannot be, too physical and taxing. It requires an offseason of strength training, and conditioning to prepare for a10 to 15 game grind. Coach Rich is installing everything from scratch. A whole new Offense and Defense, from cadence to cleats. And football starts in August. Any AD worth his salt would push his agenda......And as for the social media assault, what's the reason for that? Ill wait........hmmmmmmmmm

A lot of SETX schools play fall ball as well.  Hell, I remember a couple years ago, the starting QB for a local team showed up to the game after football practice still wearing his girdle and thigh pads.

Correct, fall BASEball is on their own.  No coaches.  3, 4 years ago.... Vidor, Ned, PNG, OF all had fall BASEball teams.

From personal experience with one of my boys. He played football and baseball until his Junior year. I remember as a Sophomore he was the JV QB and was getting smoked on a regular basis because varsity had all of the big linemen. Lol Needless to say after that season, he went one sport, baseball, and it payed off. He got to play college baseball.
each to their own on multi sports kids, but injuries happen all of the time. If a kid don’t like how coaches are running a program or worried about injuries, then a decision has to be made.

I think you would be surprised.
It is not publicized, but most schools that want to be good at baseball play fall baseball.

"AD's don't allow them to play"  that's false.  I've watched many of fall ball games and I can name 3 or 4 SETX teams that had football players on the team.

Back in the day (mid 90s) tons of kids (myself included) would go to athletic class (football) where we maxed out, ran, etc. then our parents would drive a few of us to a track meet.  After our events we would sprint to the car and head to our baseball game or play a baseball game, sprint to the car to make our track event/s.
If we would have pulled a muscle, got hit by a ball, whatever happened we chalked it up to an accident, things happen and we on about our business.

Not really,  most of the people I played with were multi-sport athletes.  This specialization stuff didn’t start until later.  No one was blamed if someone got hurt in one sport and missed time in another. Life happens.

There is no one to blame.  Injuries do happen and like most high school athletes, they want to be with their teammates.  No matter what season it is.  So said media poster should not have taken to FB to start telling coaches to do better.  If he can do better, there are programs that need coaches.

The AD's job is to win in football. Everything else is window dressing. If the football team is winning the rest can go up in smoke.

Little Johnny that plays baseball all year can get hurt too...Tommy John is a thing. Bball is  played alot once the school season is over. Who gets the BLAME for all those injuries? NOBODY, stuff happens......Certainly can't blame a HC/AD who is trying to better his program.....

Sign of today's times...we have to have someone or something to blame for anything that goes wrong...sometimes things just happen and it isn't anyone's fault...I promise you that kids do far dumber and worse things on their own time that can cause injury...Heck, you can get hurt walking across the street...whose fault is that?
As for lifting, how exactly do you plan to get stronger if you DONT lift all year long?  I have never seen anyone gain significant strength taking months at a time off from the weight room

@navydawg31 @Dawg22 My thoughts exactly!!  This is in reference to a post made on social media about a baseball player getting hurt during spring football practice.
If you know what I am talking about then you must know the kid that got hurt was more than likely a pride possession of the social media poster.

Participate in everything! Don't live in fear of injury...if you are playing with that mindset you probably aren't going to be very successful in the first place. Elite athletes play multiple sports a lot of times at the same time. Unless you are making a living and putting food on the table with your abilities then you have no excuse to not be doing everything.
