  1. Wrong again, you need to get your facts straight. Silsbee has started since the start of district this lineup: Shannon Robinson Sr. Nick Walters Sr. Pheal Hill Jr. D.C. Stallworth Soph. Prentice Lane Soph. In fact, you can go to the game archive of Silsbee/HJ and hear the starting lineup yourself. I broadcasted that game, I was given the starting lineups of both teams. I am looking at them as I type. Pheal Hill, Jr? Prolly spelled Phil Hill, Jr. I went to school with Phil Hill, from the 6th grade thru the 12th. Good athelete. Football was his thing. I saw a little of one of his sons in the game against Houston Jeff Davis, played here in Houston. Maybe it was the same son. Brings back memories. Kewl. DB aka ~ Kountzer ~
  2. I know of at least one other Silsbee athlete, a basketball player, that went to Rice on a sports scholarship. He's now a prominent civil attorney. ~ Kountzer ~
  3. Cleveland is the team to beat in region 3 This year. I saw Silsbee play Cleveland in a first round playoff game a few years ago. They blew Cleveland out of the gym. If they meet again I don't think it will be that way again.
  4. A good basketball program starts on the playground. If the kids don't have a built in love and passion for the game, the HS team is at a big disadvantage. About the best thing that can be done is start a little dribblers league. DB
  5. Was this game played Saturday afternoon @ 1:00pm?
  6. So, are any of the boys on the Warren basketball team seventh day adventists? DB
  7. David Brown definitely has to be mentioned for Silsbee. He was a high school all american also.
  8. Right, Silsbee played Clear Creek, not Clear Lake. But what CATMAN and I are disputing is that Clear Creek has a lot of basketball tradition. They do not, it's Clear Lake that has that tradition. If you go back far enough Clear Lake HS basketball tradition originated from Clear Creek HS basketball tradition. That legendary coach they had started at clear creek. Coach Bill Krueger is, or was the nat'l all time wins coach, something like that. He won 2 state championships. One at Clear Creek in 1963. Another at the newer Clear Lake High School in 1989. Henry Bauerslag was his star player in '63. I saw Hank Bauerslag play in the 70s. He was a very good Hs player. Got a scholarship to UT. etc, etc. DB
  9. I miss the Lincoln HS Bumblebees. They brought something special to golden triangle basketball, and to Texas HS basketball as well. DB
  10. For me the list has to add Dwayne Price. DP is or was a beat writer for the Fort Worth Star Telegram, covering the Dallas Mavericks. He also does some sports radio stuff up there, along with some podcasts on the internet. I went to Silsbee High School when Dwayne was there. Even then he was one of the most knowledgeable sports know it alls around. He took his love for sports and made it a profession. He used to be the stats man for the boys basketball team as well. DB
  11. For Kountze you have to add Manning and Brannon, from way back when.
  12. Back in the day, class of '75 they had a brother named Michael Dabney. He could do it all. He had a deadly accurate jumper, and he could hit it from downtown 3 pt range on in. He could do it al. He could dribble, had mad handles, rebound, take it to the rack, everything. His nephew played at Ozen with Perkins. Darrell MacArthur may have been close, but I don't think he could of been better than Michael Dabney. David Brown has to be on that list. He was all american also. ~ Kountzer ~ I saw both of these players play. Not taking anything away from Dabney, but McArthur was on another level. McArthur was a McDonald's All-American, I think Dabney may have made all-state honorable mention.
  13. It makes me feel so proud that nobody has disputed this. I thank you. BTW, the best basketball player to come out of Silsbee really is Darrell McArthur, McDonalds All-American. I did not have my computer last night so I am reading this for the first time!!!!!! If you are one of the best then either you did not graduate from Silsbee or the Silsbee program must have really sucked backed then!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D :D Oh contraire. Silsbee basketball has never sucked, particularly back then. ;D Hey, I was the only "white boy" ;D that could dunk in our high school. I broke the personna of "white boys can't jump". ;D Hey Lazeek, don't judge me by my looks now, that's what 20 years of marriage and broadcasting will do to ya. ;D TOKEN WHITE GUY!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D I was considered a brother even though I was the only white dot running up and down the courts at Waldo Mathews, 9th Street or Exquisite Park. ;D Waldo Matthews. wow. You brought up some memories with that one. 9th street also. James Simmons lived around the corner from there. So did Dabney. Exquisite park is a new one on me. Never heard of it. DB
  14. Back in the day, class of '75 they had a brother named Michael Dabney. He could do it all. He had a deadly accurate jumper, and he could hit it from downtown 3 pt range on in. 15. Clear Creek has as much basketball tradition as Silsbee, or maybe more.
  16. Nice win. Let me know when the next game with HJ comes up, or better yet the playoffs. If silsbee is as good as everyone says they are, and i have no doubt they are, games like this are a cakewalk, or close to it. DB
  17. Kountze is down now, no doubt, but they have a way of reloading every so often and going up to Austin and bringing home a state trophy. I respect that. DB
  18. The Lions know how to go to state and bring home a championship.
  19. The last B-ball game I saw was year before last in the playoffs against cleveland in Barbers Hills gym. Ahmad Jones, and Harper were on that team. I didn't see last years team, but I followed them in the paper and on the internet. I was glad to see them finally get past HJ. Kennedale was too much for them in Austin. I was in FT Worth/Arlington for thanksgiving. My money was too funny to make it back up there for this tourney. They are scheduled to play in barbers hill again this year. Maybe I will make it to that game. I live in NW Houston. I did get to see the football team play davis. that's a whole 'nother topic ~Kountzer~
  20. I just use the name kountzer. I grew up in Silsbee. I can remember when Asst coach Brooks was a little boy. Of course, I was a teenager myself at the time. DB
  21. So Sanger beat Silsbee by 8 points. HMMM. That shows - again, that those TABC polls are not that accurate, because Silsbee was ranked # 7, or # 8, and Sanger is nowhere to be seen in the top 20, at least they aren't right now. Looking at the positive, a little Northern exposure is good for the Tigers. A loss like this will show a team exactly who they are and what they need to work on. Better to lose like this now than in the playoffs. DB
  22. I saw that 31-1 team; they were impressive. they went into the playoffs with too much pressure on them, being ranked # 1 and undefeated. Hopefully this team has learned from the past. DB
  23. You heard right, they didn't have a clue. that was the 1st silsbee football game I've attended in a long time. I work right by delmar stadium and decided to go to the game. it was an entertaining game. The score kept going back and forth. Houston Jeff Davis quarterback John Castillo looked very good. I don't know if he is just that good, or if Silsbee's defensive backs are just that lost. Perhaps it is a combination of the two. It looks to me like silsbee also has some offensive and defensive line problems. Silsbee quarterback Johnson was scrambling on every play. good game just the same. Met a lot of old friends. A Silsbee victory would have been nice, but hey, you can't have everything. DB in NW Houston, aka kountzer
