  1. Fort Worth area teams appeared in all 3 of the top classes, or conferences. They won 2 of 3. I have 2 of those games recorded, and the Houston Rockets as well. It will be a week before I watch them all, if ever.
  2. It's cliche, but it gets the point across: leave it on the floor Silsbee, leave it on the floor. I'm not talking about playing dirty, or unethical or none of that. Just give it your best, and leave whatever you got: blood, sweat, skills, heart, desire, athletic ability, etc, leave it all on the floor. For some schools trips to Austin are rare. But don't let that mess up your mind. One of the four teams left in conference 3A is going to leave with a championship trophy. It may as well be Silsbee. ~ Kountzer ~
  3. Kennedale is just off I-20 in the Fort Worth area. I've passed by and seen the name hundreds of times and never really noticed, til now. FW Dunbar h/s is not all that far away. Neither is Everman h/s. Both of those schools put out talented basketball teams just about every year, especially Dunbar. So, it shouldn't be that big of a surprise that Kennedale is in the thick of things in terms of the conference 3A basketball championship. But hey, the Silsbee Tigers have shown a lot of heart and determination this season, and during the playoffs. After 2 tough victories over Crockett and HJ, they should be able to get on the court with anyone. This should be a good game. ~ Kountzer ~
  4. That's why I said 'as I recall'. I saw the '76 team in the playoffs that year. I knew Artie Shankle; used to play sandlot football and 3 on 3 b-ball with him. I've heard a lot about Darrell MacArthur and those teams, and the teams with now coach David Green. They may have played on the same team. I left Silsbee shortly after school for the military and haven't really kept up that well since. I have followed them in the papers and on the 'net over the years. Occasionally I have shown up at a playoff game. I don't recall a team in the '90s going undefeated and making it to the championship game. There was a Tiger team in the mid 90s that was ranked #1 in the polls all year and then lost in the 1st round of the playoffs. that may be the team you are referring to. that team had a 6'6" Arline in the post, and this sharp shooting guard, who eventually played for Univ of Tennessee. I can't recall his name. I grew up knowing his mom and dad.
  5. How do you know all this stuff? Showing my age. I was around to see it. I went to the game.
  6. The only other time I can recall that the Silsbee boys played at the state championship tourney in Austin was back during the '72/'73 season. The team was led by 6'8" David Brown, and by 6'3" forward/guard James Hunter. Hunter went on the make it to the nfl, but that's another story. Don't ask me how I know all this stuff.
  7. I saw Stephen Jackson and PA Lincoln play against Silsbee in the region III championship in '95. That was his Jr. year. The next year he was at Oak Hill Academy. That was the 1st time I'd heard of the place.
  8. I wasn't surprised by the outcome. PNG beats Silsbee every year here lately. After all the talent Silsbee loss to graduation I knew this type of outcome was possible. Oh well.. DB aka Kountzer
  9. Halftime, & Duncanville is up by 12. Kingwood can go 'head and warm up the bus, this game is ova. DB aka Kountzer
  10. I grew up in silsbee. Kountzer is just a name. I was stomping around silsbee waay before you were born, probably.
  11. If you have a double digit lead, by as much as 17, some say, you gotta mix in some slow down, some 4 posts, something. Maybe it was the foul trouble. Coach Williams needs to answer up for some of this.
  12. It couldn't of been more than 5 or so years ago that the DFW boys on the tx hoops msg board were bragging about the chris bosh led dallas lincoln team that eventually won state that year. I think they won it 2 yrs in a row. They were dogging Kendrick Perkins and Ozen, talking about how much better Bosh was than Perkins. I guess they were right. Btw, whatever happened to that 5'10" guard, be hop, that could jump out of the gym? Last I heard he was playing for SMU. DB aka Kountzer
  13. According to the UIL bracket, it's Silsbee vs. Stafford, Klein High School, 8pm February 26th. Can somebody confirm this?
  14. Yeah, Terrence Jones has a nice inside game also. He has a nice touch on his jumper. DB
  15. I just got home from that game. Silsbee had 95 when I left. First game I've been too in a looong time. Ahmed Jones, the post player for Silsbee, and football recruit for ok State u, is super quick, for a man his size. Never seen him on the football field. Maybe I'll be able to watch him on tv next fall. Harper is a very good baller. Got to talk with Jones' parents. I remember them from way back when. Saw Ryan Donahoe from HJ. I wish I could see HJ play. I heard a lot of good things about HJ from some of their fans in the stands. I even met a guy I know from church who was getting ready to ref the WOS vs. Splendora game next. I had a good time. Marcus Brewer, the post for Silsbee, has some serious hops. Silsbee has a nice little squad. Don't know how far they will go, but still, I was impressed. DB
  16. Tim Hardaway should of been more media savvy. He was a star nba player, who should be used to microphones and the power of the media. To come right out and say what he feels, stuff like 'i hate gays', I''m homophobic', 'gays should not be in america or on the planet', you can't say stuff like that. There are a lot of people, in the media and elsewhere, that are sympathetic to the whold gay pride, gay rights movement. The will be forgotten in time. Hopefully Hardaway can hold on.
  17. That's just one game played on Wednesday. I agree that is a distraction if you are in the habit of going to Wed. night prayer meeting. What is much worse is the fact that most football games and quite a few basketball games, and other sports are played on Friday night and on Saturdays. From friday evening at sunset until saturday evening sunset is the true biblical sabbath, the sabbath talked about and protected by the fourth of the 10 commandments. Don't take my word on this, and don't listen to your pastor or youth pastor. they will only twist it. Read it for yourself in the bible. DB
  18. 6pm? Man that's cutting it close, with the evening rush hour traffic and all. Still, I'll try to make this one.
  19. I don't think Tim Hardaway should of said that he hates gays. I do sympathize with what he was trying to say. Being gay is a sin. It is also an aberration. It's against the norm. The last thing I am interested in seeing is some flaming gay basketball player, twisting down the court on a fast break. yuck. DB
  20. Hey Koop, does SETXsports have any plans to video this game and stream it online? Sounds like a good idea to me. I gotta work tuesday evening. Darryl in Houston
