I live about a mile from Eisenhower high school, give or take a tenth of a mile or so.  I have no idea how good their basketball team is.

Good game and nice season Tigers.  Now on to basketball season.  Best wishes to Navasota.  I'm afraid a serious beat down by Gilmer is in store for you though.

Leave it to Gilmer to drop some understanding on what the real deal is.  I was hoping Jasper could somehow work a miracle, but hey, it is what it is.

Obviously Carthage didn't lose much talent from last year's team.  They are the class of 3A in this area, and again, maybe the state.

Silsbee's pass defense didn't look good last year against Davis. I thought maybe they had improved since then. These days the QBs and the receivers play 7 on 7 all off season. If a team doesn't have a defense to stay on the field with that, they can get torched all night. Plus, Eastex schools like Diboll, Gilmer Cameron Coe, etc., those places are dangerous on the gridiron these days.

It's not that they are bad, they just don't have the numbers that you would think a 1,600 enrollment 4A would have. They only suited out 20 players while Silsbee has 36 on varsity. Davis was pretty good last year, going 9-2 and advancing to the 3rd round. They defeated Yates last year for the first time in 30 years. They had some pretty good players last year. That is not the case this year though. They still had a few pretty good ones, just not enough. Houston Chronicle does have them making the playoffs this year. Anyone have an idea where Castillo, Davis' QB last year, where did he go? I am thinking maybe a JUCO, but not sure. Davis had a nice passing attack in that game last year. Usually they are not that good. The last sports star they had, that I can remember, plays center field for the tampa bay devil rays. namely Carl Crawford.

Where are they playing the Silsbee vs. Houston Davis game? Last year it was at Delmar Stadium. I would assume it is the same this year, but I want to be sure. Kountzer aka DB, Silsbee raised, livng in NW Houston

Ponder whacked 3A Arglye earlier this season, and Argyle has been in the top 5 of the 3A polls all season.

It is a private school. And as such they are able to recruit on a national and even international basis. that's why they have a good basketball program. Back in the day Silsbee used to play them in football. Strake was a small school then, and Silsbee could usually count that game as a victory. Those days are gone, especially in basketball.

Dallas Madison beat Argyle 48-46. No doubt Argyle went into stall ball to keep the score that low. ~ Kountzer ~

uhmm if im correct dallas madison only beat argyle by 2.. so i wouldnt crown them just yet... you just contradicted yourself by basically saying anything can happen on any given night, then saying if anyone from region 3 plays dallas madison then there not gonna win... hmm yea.. so much for ANYTHING can happen You're right, if your team wins then you and they can live on, dream on. That's the beauty of success in the playoffs. Lose and you go home and cry on the msg boards, or whatever. Still, I think the eventual champion will come out of North Texas. Those teams like Dallas Madison, Burkburnett, Argyle, Sanger, Ponder, etc., they have some very good teams this year. Of course H J has gone up there and won it all, but I don't think this is one of those years. It is just a feeling I have, that's all. As for Silsbee, hmm, I don't know. Good season, the team had a lot of potential. But...there was something intangile missing. oh well kountzer

It's hard to beat a team 4 times in a season. Also, sports/basketball is very mental. If a team gets hot at the right time, get to believing in themselves, while the other team starts having doubts, well...add all that to the win or go home pressure of the playoff, and you have what resulted tonight. It really doesn't matter that much though. If Dallas Madison gets on the court wih whatever team wins region 3, it will be all over with - fast. Kountzer

Big ups to the Kountze Lions. This was a down year for them. They got no love at all from the TABC poll. Yet they played NW, the # 1 ranked team to within 5 in a playoff game. That says a lot.

Where was that game played? If I had my old work schedule instead of this jacked up new schedule that has me getting off at 7 to 8 pm at night, I could of gone to that game.

There's no Kingwood in 4A. 5A is the real deal in all sports. Plus Green wasn't ready to coach them up. The UIL gave PAM a break getting Humble ISD out of the district.... I know, I know Green is from Silsbee. Joe Price is from Silsbee also, and he led the bumble bees to one of those 4A championships. He's @ Northshore now, I believe. Lincoln won at least one 5A championship way back in the day. Back when the beehive was stinging it really didn't matter during the regular season. 5a, 2a whatever, Lincoln would give them a beatdown, then march on to State. Then 5a schools like Kingwood start running their razzle dazzle. Mysteriously pulling Nic Wise from Fort Bend Hightower(where Green is now), recruiting players, allegedly (using my best Jim Rome impersonation). Now strake jesuit is in the mix. They recruit statewide, nationally, internationally. It don't matter to them. Mark of the beast...sorry that's too deep. I wish PAM well. I just remember Lincoln that's all. Back in the day PA Lincoln basketball was the talk of the region, of the state. Schools in Houston, Dallas, where ever whatever they all feared and respected lincoln basketball. Then Lincoln closes and the PA basketball mystique vanishes. Like over night. What happened? The only folks making noise outta PA these days are rappers. (far as I know).I know they still shooting hoops in the playgrounds. I don't understand the fall off. ~Kountzer~
