  1. 7A is not the cure all some people seem to think. I saw a mock realignment on some board for 7A and it was a joke, although I'm sure the author did the best he could. What I saw was some districts would have 9-10 members, others might just have 4 and awful travel. It's the same reason, 6A won't agree to pre split. The UIL opened a can of worms when they bought this up without doing an analysis including a mock realignment. You could say it's unfair to some scjools to play bigger schools, but you could also say it;s unfair for a 4 team district to send everybody to the playoffs while you are in a 10 team district that less than half qualify. The UIL said last summer that they would consider 7A when another 100 schools were added to the approximately 500 schools now in 5A and 6A without changing the bottom of 5A much. This could take decades.

  3. Angleton's coach said they have not been able to find another opponent to replace Houston Wisdom who forfeited  and they will start preparing for next week. I'm surprised he would even want to as the city was hit hard by NIcholas. The center of the storm passed less than 15 miles to the west. They have not had school this week but hope to reopen on Friday. Nearly the whole city lost power.  In an earlier game, another HISD school forfeited, Kashmere and he found another team to play, Alief Taylor. Ironically, the team that Kashmere played that week instead of Angleton was  Wisdom. Last week Wisdom forfeited to Manvel. According to Maxpreps ratings, Manvel would have been a 99 point favorite. I'm hoping Wisdom will be a D2 problem next year. Wisdom used to be R.E. Lee high school before they changed it a few years ago. From 2003 to 2012 they did not have varsity football because of lack of interest. They have homecoming at a soccer match, I'm told.

They're at a 6A enrollment at this point im told, not surprised at all. I wonder what district UIL puts them in this realignment.....

Yes, they and Manvel both should have been in 6A last year. When the actual 2020 numbers came out they each had over 2500. The numbers the U.I.L. uses are a year out of date, based on the previous year's enrollment. Also from the same district 10-5A-D1, Houston Wisdom never had D1 numbers and should have been D2. There's going to be a major shakeup in this district next fall because Rosenberg Terry should also drop to D2 now that new school Rosenberg Randle has opened. That should leave 5 out of 9. Fort Bend Austin should drop from 6A, but that would only be 6.

Think yall can sneak a playoff spot this season? A small few of us Titan fans thought we would end up facing yall last year on the Football Friday App.

A little tough with heavyweights like Manvel, Katy Paetow, and Richmond Foster in the district and with so much inexperience on defense, but maybe they'll make it. This is an important scrimmage for Angleton to face somebody good because they face a decent 4A in Stafford followed by 3 HISD schools in the weeks afterwards, so it will be awhile before they face anybody really good again. 10-5A-1 is going to really change next year with Manvel and Paetow leaving for 6A and Rosenberg Terry and Houston Wisdom departing for 5A-D2. FB Austin dropping down from 6A will be one replacement but I don't know who else will go into this district.

  6. Angleton will have a pass heavy offense this year, though they will run some too. Last year they were transitioning to a spread from the wing-t and didn't get the spring and summer drills to make the change because of covid. Angleton does have a player on Dave Campbell's Class of 2023-Top 100 list, Kariyen Goins who transferred from Brazosport. Angleton's QB, Ewells, is a sophomore who started the last part of 2020 as a freshman. Last year's early starter at QB is still there but has been moved to wr. Goins was a QB at Brazosport but will play wr/fs at Angleton. There is a video of highlights and stats from Angleton's scrimmage with Columbia on Maxpreps and Hudl. It is the one marked "Recap..." and not the one marked "Highlights..." which appears to be from a subvarsity scrimmage. Ewells is wearing #3 at the scrimmage, with #11 at QB being a backup.
