  1. Angleton freshmen 28, Dayton 22
  2. Not as bad as DCTF. In '24 when Angleton played 5 playoff games and got into the semifinals, DCTF picked the wrong winner on all five of them. And that was at the end of the season when they should have known a lot more about teams.
  3. Massey Ratings say LP 35, Crawford 28 Good luck to the Dawgs!
  4. This is Vype's take on the district: [Hidden Content]
  5. This district has gone through quite a change with only 3 members returning and has a westerly shift as I predicted but I never thought that Victoria East would be included. It is no longer in the SETX coverage area, but should be of interest to 5AD1 fans in Region 3 because of playoff implications. When you talk about this district, you have to talk about what I would call the Big 3, those that will probably occupy the top 3 spots, Angleton, Richmond Randle, and Iowa Colony. One thing they all have in common is they will all be starting a new QB because their QB of 2-3 years graduated or transferred. I will not try to rank them because of bias and I don't know how much effect the QB change will have. Angleton will have 6 D1 commits on the team this year, OLs Noah Smith and Noah Ernst, RBs Wyatt Neyland and Jayden Moore, safety Landon Miles, and CB/KR Kasen Jammer. Smith is a move-in from Iowa Colony. They will not have any DL returning starters but again a transfer comes to the rescue. Vance Smyth, a Sweeny transfer, where he started 2 years at both TE and DE will start at DT for Angleton. Angleton will be helped by the fact that their JV and Freshmen teams in '25 both finished 10-0. Trey Gardner is the new QB. He would have been the QB last year when Duron went down, but he was injured and lost for the year about the 3rd game. His father is the team's DC and a former NFL linebacker. He has been on varsity since his sophomore year waiting behind Duron. Their only returning starter at WR would have been Wesley Jackson, but he transferred to Carthage, the state champs. Good luck to him. If the scrimmage I watched is any indication, they do not intend to abandon the pass. Angleton will be the road team in games against the other two contenders. Iowa Colony will have some holes to fill. Not only did Smith leave for Angleton, but their QB of the last 3 years, Oklahoma State commit Carson White transferred to Ft. Bend Hightower where his dad is the new OC. Besides that, 2 3-star rated players (S, OL) and a 4-star WR graduated. They still have a 4-star rated safety, Kalen Simmons. Iowa Colony will be the home team in games against the other two. Randle was the state runner-up last year and will again return 5-star RB Landen Williams-Callis, who had about 3500 yds rushing and is committed to UT. However their QB of the last 3 years, Tyler Skrabanek who had almost as many yds passing as Williams-Callis did rushing graduated and will have to be replaced. The 4th place seems to me to most likely to go to Friendswood. They are more experienced this year and their tall QB returns. They were 4th last year and almost beat Dist. 12 champ Anderson on the road. Of the other 5, Katy Freeman is somewhat a mystery. For the 1st time they will have a senior class and the 1st time they will participate in a UIL district. Their 2 losses last year were to 3A teams, including 46-0 loss to Hitchcock who had a good year. Victoria East hasn't had a good year since 2023 and Dulles doesn't appear to be any better than the FB team they replaced Kempner. The last two places will probably go to Pasadena and South Houston.
  6. Houston St. Thomas @ Angleton Thursday, Aug. 13, 6:30 pm
  7. Dulles is no better than Kempner having won just 1 game the last 2 years and will have no better luck. They may have a chance to beat either Pasadena or South Houston in this district.
  8. Angleton Schedule: scrimmage 1 St. Thomas Scrimmage 2 Bay City wk1 FB Bush wk 2 Dayton wk 3 FB Dulles wk 4 South Houston wk5 Iowa Colony wk6 Pasadena wk 7 Katy Freeman wk 8 idle wk9 Friendswood wk 10 Richmond Randle wk 11 Victoria East
  9. My daughter went to U of H, but her husband was an Aggie.
  10. My guess it will have minimal effect on enrollments. I'm remembering when Guidant closed their Intermedics facility, a medical pacemaker manufacturer in 1999 in Angleton which employeed a whopping 1400 people just after aquiring it, I thought it would have a big affect on Angleton HS, but it didn't. There was a modest increase in Angleton's enrollment in both 2000 and 2002. Just because employees have to change jobs doesn't mean they will have to move. They will often find jobs somewhere else though they may have a longer commute. The main reason Dow is doing this is that Dow is not doing good at all, their stock has been dropping for a long time. I'm a Dow retiree and my daughter was a chemical engineer at Dow for 19 years working in automation and she just quit them a few months ago and went to work for BASF, a company right next to Dow's Plant B. Her husband, another chemical engineer still works for Dow and should he get laid off, my hope she will be able to help him get a job at BASF. The odd thing is he started his carreer at BASF and years ago came over to Dow. For professionals, anbody getting laid off should get a 6-digit separation package. At this point all we know is that there will be about 4500 people laid off worldwide and if iirc about 20% of Dow's workforce is in Freeport. Chemical engineers are in big demand',there's always "head hunters" looking for them.
  11. Here's a mock for 5AD1 from the 1A-5A subforum from the 6A board. Oddly he does mot put Spring Westfield into 9-5AD1 with their New Caney neighbors. But he does put ship channel neighbors Baytown, La Porte, and Pasadena together which hasn't always been the case. [Hidden Content]
  12. One thing that will help him, they just dropped from D1 to D2.
  13. Justin Velasquez from Mesquite HS has been hired at Brazosport.
  14. this shows that there may be enough schools to claim all 4 districts in Region 3 with opt ups. But what does the UIL do with those teams from the Austin area and College Station that are in Region 3 now?
  15. I don't know why they couldn't move MST and Milby up to 6A and have majority control of that district with the 4 6A schools they already have in 6A and let their 4A and 5AD2 schools reside in 5AD2 but they didn't do that last time.
