I’m sure it’s been done.. but all of 5A D1 just screamed excitement lol

Realistically it's more like 13 teams. The 7 they would have beaten in district and the 6 on the way to winning state. Everyone else it really doesn't effect.

Yep - PNG has to rely on coaching up the boys we have, and SOC openly rebuilds like they’re in the ncaa. They had no pass rush against PNG last year - If we face them next year, they’ll have an all new team tailor made to deal with us. It’s ridiculous. And , if they win we’ll all stand there and clap and pretend there was anything organic about their team. If we win, they’ll file grievances and try to put asterisks and insinuations on the victory.

I’m not saying they’re breaking the rules by all these transfers. They’re a magnet school and PnG isn’t, etc. But the idea that all the schools don’t put their teams together under the same rules challenges the idea of high school sports altogether.

SOC being talented is nothing new. I posted this on the 5A site a couple of weeks after we beat them in 2018.

I wish PNG would schedule like this. It’s not a golden bullet, and it only really helps you go deep in the playoffs if your team is already good enough to build from the butt-whoopings. But if we could schedule something like Summer Creek/PAM, North Shore, and Astascosita, we’d really help ourselves out. We’d likely start 0-3, or 1-2,  but who cares? It’s about getting ready for the playoffs. And if we could make the travel work, I’d love a matchup with College Station or Aledo.

Honestly, idk if scheduling those top end 6A teams would benefit y'all. Those teams are much better than anyone y'all would play in D2. Plus I don't think they would be interested at all. PNG doesn't offer much for NS or Cita. Playing College Station, A&M Consolidated, Cedar Park, or Smithson Valley makes much more sense for both sides. Even playing us, there are so many good teams that are closer to us than y'all. If we can save money on travel I'd rather do that. Unless you wanted to come to Aledo. I'm sure we'd welcome y'all.

Coach Buchanan did a great job at Aledo, but in his first 15 years only won one state title (in his sixth year, ironically).  He then went 9 more without one, before the area growth brought more talent his way.  Consequently, Aledo has won 11 of the last 15 championships despite having 3 different coaches over that time.  Did they luck into 3 elite coaches in a decade?  I kinda doubt it.  Buchanan may have started things off, but they have a major talent edge there.

If you want to move this response to another thread then thats fine. I just feel the need to elaborate. Coach Buc built Aledo into what it is today. The culture, the system, expectations, ect, is all installed by Coach Buc. You said he won 1 state title in his first 15 years, which was '98 against Cuero. Well, something that was not mentioned is the steady progression of our playoff runs. This thing has been building from the ground up. The Years in red that are underlined prove this point. The other two coaches you mentioned are Coach Steve Wood and Coach Robby Jones (current coach). Coach Wood was in Aledo 11 years, most as the DC before taking over and Coach Jones has been in Aledo 18ish years before taking over. Both Coach Wood & Jones have taught that system for awhile. So they did not try to change things for the sake of it. They have their own styles but they do not let their ego get involved. Thats exactly what we need. People that respect what is working. You also mention a major talent edge. Against most teams, I would agree, against certain playoff team, maybe, against other state finalist, not really. Aledo grew up beating teams more talented than them. All those years where we got knocked out in the 3rd-5th rounds, show we didnt have a talent edge. Not a lot of kids going to play on Saturday. I'd say La Marque, Temple, Manvel, Brenham in '09, were all teams that had more talent than us on the field in the state games. Maybe even Fort Bend Marshall too in '18 & '19. But our coaching has been outstanding and we have won a lot of games that on paper we should lose.

    State Champions: '98 '09 '10 '11 '13 '14 '16 '18 '19 '20 '22 '23
    State Finalist: '74 '17
    State Semifinalist: '72 '97 '04 '06 '07 '15
    State Quarterfinalist: '96 '99 '02 '03 '05
    Regional Finalist: '67 '68 '70 '77 '00 '01 '21
    Area Finalist: '08 '12
    Bi-District Finalist: '62 '71 '73 '76 '81 '87 '88

  6. Dang, I thought this was the advertisement section for the portal lol. Oh, well. I am already committed.

    Aledo needs :- CB- CB-FS-SS-LB-TE-WR-LT-C-RG-QB

For consideration please read below! The budget is tight this year.

Secondary players- must be able to stand faster than anyone can run

O-linemen- you must demonstrate the ability to slam a revolving door

LBs- If you cant sneeze with your eyes open, no need to apply

TEs- you must let a cobra bite your leg. After five days, the cobra better have died.

WRs- gotta be able to do a wheelie on a unicycle

QBs- must beat the sun in a staring contest

***You must excel in at least 2 of the following activities for high consideration. We need to improve in these areas for the Lone Star Cup

    Mariachi

    One-Act Play

    Robotics (FIRST & BEST)

    Theatrical Design

  7. Guessing we will be in a 7 team district in 5AD1.

    1. Denton Guyer (6A)- Coach Jones said this one was locked in.

    2. Southlake Carroll (6A)- historic program, I'm confident we lose this game but we need to really challenge ourselves.

    3. Longview (6A)- top tier ETX program that is tough and plays good defense.

    4. North Crowley/Cedar Hill (6A)- Whichever program projects to be better these next two seasons. We need to find another tough 6A program that will help us get ready for the playoffs.

Again, this is where we’ll disagree.  It’s not about the talent pool.  It’s about getting right coach.  Will some teams ever get the right coach?  No!  We see that around here.
Do a little study on how bad it was at Stephenville before Briles got there.  Brownwood was the big dog.  Then Stephenville won 4 Titles in 7 years.
I wonder what Aledo’s history looked like before Buchanan arrived?

    Coach Buc started in '93

He and HH started last year, did you see Aledo last night! They haven’t missed a beat with their first year new HC!

To be fair Coach Jones has been with Aledo for awhile. He was the LB coach in '06 when I played. I think he was at Aledo a couple of years before that.

I’m not as sold on Forney. We heard how good they were last year and BH shut them down and sent them home. 1 year later they get a DiV 1 defensive move in and their juggernauts? I think Lone Star beats them Friday ,but if not and we can get by Richland it BH/ Forney part 2😎

Who has said they are juggernauts?
