  1. Dawg defense

Gilmer -17 yards in the first half

    22 total yards rushing.
pleasant Grove 37 total yards rushing

    Jasper 56 total yards

Rusk -8 yards rushing 130 passing

Note Carthage had 7 turnovers against Rusk

muffed punt gave Rusk the ball 8 yard line.
two fumbles, one gave Rusk the ball inside the 5 yard line

four interceptions, after return Rusk at the 2 yard line. Dawg D pushed them back to the 11 yard line and took over the ball on 4 and out.
I have watched the best defenses in high school football for 55 years.
    83 Daingerfield the best ever

    Katy Tigers

    Pittsburg 1980

    WOS 2016 I believe

Now add in my opinion Carthage 2021

The Dawg offense had to replace 8 of some of the best offensive linemen, QB and running back Carthage has ever had and they are young and have made a lot of mistakes.
But with this defense we still have a chance for title number 9.

As of today I would say:

    1. FB Marshall

    2 Crosby

    3. Montgomery

    4. A&M-Con.

    5. Texas High

It’s hard to get a feel for FB Marshall this year because of their schedule. Their offense is kind of weird this year because their qb is also their leading rusher. I’ve been on Montgomery since the beginning of the year. They have all the offensive weapons, I’m just not sure about their defense?

I still say Crosby, if the Q/B and running back are healthy, the defense will give them a chance to win every game at least to the third round.

That’s ‘83 Daingerfield type stuff! I mean not quite but damn good D!

I watch them every week and I can’t believe how good they are.
Gilmer is a high power offensive machine and I don’t believe they will lose another game unless they play the Dawgs again.
The Dawgs held them to 17 total yards and one first down into the third quarter. Gilmer scored a touchdown on an unbelievable play. They got the ball on there end of the field due to a Dawg fumble. It was fourth down, Gilmer QB was running for his life, threw the to a diving receiver who was covered like a blanket. One in front and one in back in the end zone for their only touchdown.
The scary part is, they are getting better every week.

Hater!! Nederland is easily the class of this area.

I think Dave Campbell’s is basing their ranking off of the fairly deep run last year, beating Crosby in the final, reputation and then won loss record. Nederland might start 5-0 and end with 0-5. I really don’t see how they’re in the top 10 but it is interesting while it lasts.

I think they are sleeping on Crosby.
The QB and running back are good.
The front 4 on defense may be as good as any in 5A DII.
I may be wrong but I think they will make a deep in run in the playoffs.

What you are saying is what I said before the game. We needed some help from Carthage offense and we didn't get it. There is always next time........but I fully expect Surratt to get the QB playing a little better. You are right though. The late pick 6 made the score worse that it was. We don't throw that we are kinda still in the game. Like I said.......28-4 over a 2 year period aint bad🤣🤣

Gilmer was never in the game.
They had 17 yards and one first down in the first half. Gilmer defense played a great game but the Dawg QB gifted The Gilmer defense the ball without being touched and stopped the Dawgs from going down the field to score on three different occasions. Falling down for a 20 yard sack, dropping the ball and kicking it 20 yards towards Gilmer side of the field. He had a rough time.
But he also made some great runs and touch down passes. The score should of been 35 to 0.
The Gilmer QB was running for his life and made an unbelievable pass to wide receiver that made another unbelievable diving catch. That happen happened because the Dawgs fumbled the punt.
The Gilmer QB was hit all night when he tried to pass or run. The running backs were hit most of the time behind the line of scrimmage.
At the end of the game Dawgs had 293 yards to Gilmer 161. Without all those mishaps dropping the ball or bad snaps the Dawgs have more points and many more yards.
Gilmer will still play Celina for the right to go to Jerry’s House in December.
They are are a very good football team. I can guarantee coach Surratt will fix the mishaps Handling the football this week in practice.

Nothing like a rematch of the SC game, #1 vs #2. Carthage is always the favorite against anyone on the schedule. Gilmer is running like a well oiled machine right now. How many times have they played in recent years? Sooner or later they're gonna get the W. Maybe not during pre district but when it counts later on.

No one beats Carthage in a state championship game not as long as coach Surratt and coach Preston are there.
we will have everyone of our O linemen playing against Gilmer.
During coach Surratt’s weekly radio interview, he said the ones went against the ones this past week and there were some major hitting going on. He said they had a great week of practice. He said what he always says, we are improving but we are going to have to get better.

I think you mean #45 Chancellor Bradley? Kid was a beast last night, especially in the second half. Crosby’s front is legit. Holding Manvel to 28 offensive points, holding both Carthage and PAM to 20 offensive points is a pretty solid three game stretch for a defense replacing 8 starters. Feels like we’re on the right track.

Carthage will not face a better D line all year.

Better than getting donkey stomped for 80 years before discovering the art of recruiting.

Show me where Carthage has been donkey stomped for 80 years.
Give Carthage WOS schedule and give WOS Carthage schedule for the last 20 years and see they stack up.
Carthage district for years consisted of Kilgore (two state championship appearances, one win, Gilmer 5 state championship appearances, 3 wins, Chapell Hill 3 state championship appearances, two wins, Henderso 1 state championship appearances, 1 win.

I hope WO-S never goes on a 84 year championship drought like Carthage did.

Simple, don’t move to East Texas to play  district and non-district games.
keep playing the teams that you have donkey stomp for 50 years.

Yeah and had Aledo not missed the cutoff there's at least three less trophys in Carthages case. Same thing right? Or is that not fair?

The Dawgs in 2008, 2017, 2019, and 2020 would have dead even match for Aledo. He’ll even the computer said the Dawgs beat Aledo 28 to 24 in 2019.

Carthage has never fielded a team that could have beaten 2016 WO-S, if you think otherwise you've been eating too much red clay.  Last year Carthage would have been a handful for sure but WO-S didn't make it.  I believe they lost their entire offensive line and a few other starters to Covid the week of their last game. Not that anyone would even mention that or use it as an excuse, not anyone, ever.

2008, 2017, 2019, and 2020 would have beat the brakes off 2016 WOS.
You might want to watch YouTube before you say that kind of none since.
Coach S does not loose state championship games. 8 and counting, now remind us how many WOS has won and how many they have lost.
    proof is in the rings.

  12. WOS just needs to win enough games to get the opportunity to play Carthage in the playoffs.
Until the two teams meet nothing else needs to be said.
I only remember the two teams playing once and the Dawgs got the win.
Time will tell who has the best team.
