Interesting to see how he does against better competition… I’ll reserve the “We will be watching him on Saturdays opinion” but I’d imagine he could play at the next level based off his athleticism and size. What level at that next level is still to be determined.

Yeah that's probably a bold prediction on my part based on the level of competition from last night. HD does have a couple 290lb + kids that he was working over pretty bad (when they did get their hands on him). I pulled up his highlights from their scrimmage last week against Shepherd and he looked just as dominant. I'll be keeping an eye on him for sure.

  2. As usual, Kountze has a bunch of athletes. Not sure how good they'll be this year because they were head and shoulders bigger and more athletic than HD. You could tell before kickoff that this probably wasn't gonna be a competitive game.

My biggest takeaway from the game is that #75 Chase Jones from Kountze is a BEAST. Kid is probably 6'3" around 270lbs and dominated every single snap. I honestly can't recall a small school defensive lineman in this area looking that impressive. Super athletic, fast, strong, and a non-stop motor. We'll be watching him play on Saturdays without a doubt. I remember watching Grayland Arnold for Kountze play HD a couple years and thinking, man this kid can PROBABLY start at a big D1 program. (Of course hes now an NFL veteran after a solid career at Baylor). With that being said, I KNOW this Jones kid can start at a big D1 program.

  3. I heard that Nederland’s staff and boosters were not very friendly to the Barriers during their visit. A whole lot of “don’t think you’re coming in here to reinvent the wheel” and “we’ve got our starting QB so don’t think some small school kid can come in here and play” etc. Pretty sure Nederland not being very welcoming was the determining factor of the Barriers moving on.

And on a couple other notes, Ned is a tremendous coach and offensive mastermind. His head coaching record isn’t great, but look at the programs he took over. Nobody goes to those schools and puts up big winning records. Any school would be lucky to get Coach Barrier as HC or OC….with or without Brady coming along.

Speaking of Brady, apparently several posters on this thread have NOT SEEN this kid play. He is legit in every sense of the word. Tremendous athlete, great kid, and someone that LOVES football. He just made it to regionals in the discus…as a freshman. And those of y’all saying yeah he started at a 3A school as a freshman, big deal, lots of kids do that. He didn’t just START, the kid balled out. He threw for 2600+ yards (65.8% completion), 21 TDs (rushed for another 5 scores) and only 5 interceptions. He only play 2-3 quarters in multiple games blowing teams out and in the 10 games other than Newton and Franklin he only threw one interception (Anahuac was trailing in both those games and were throwing a ton late into heavy pass coverage). Kid throws dimes and eats, sleeps and breathes football and is a very underrated athlete. He’s about 6’3” 200lbs right now….and just finished 9th grade last week. His first game after 8th grade was the season opener as the starter against Newton and the athletes they bring to the table….and he didn’t seem phased at all. So anyone thinking he can’t make the immediate jump to 5A and that level of play doesn’t have a clue. We’ll be watching this kid throw TDs on Saturdays in a few years, mark my words. Nederland really lost out not getting those two.

If I were in Black and Gold, I'd be just a tad bit upset with the calls I got and/or didn't get.

I agree. In the end Newton imposed their will and won the game, but the final score wasn’t indicative of how competitive the game was. Anahuac freshman QB is legit and then some throwing the ball! Anahuac will make some noise this year and will only get better.

    That’s crazy impressive.

I gotta ask.. how bad is Sabine Pass to let one kid score 60 and 70 points in consecutive games? Not diminishing the accomplishment..but I think I’m putting 5 players on one before I let them score 71. Just sayin…

Yeah they’re not so great lol.

HD won 89-26. Pretty sure she was double (and triple) teamed most of the game. HD’s Quay Haskins didn’t play and she’s the primary ball handler and second leading scorer. With Sabine Pass not having to deal with her playing, I’m surprised Armstrong was able to but up that ungodly amount of points.

And I’d consider SP and HD district rivals. Probably not as high as HD, WH, and Evadale, but there’s been some great games between HD and SP over the years.

  6. Just gotta give a shout-out to the Hull-Daisetta lady Bobcats on a big win last night over Sabine Pass 73-20.

HD sophomore Kaylei Armstrong scored 59 points leading the Lady Cats to the district win. I know most of these young ladies (and guys) from some of the smaller schools in the area tend to get overlooked but she definitely needs to be on the radar for regional recognition and all-star teams. She was the district MVP last year as a freshman and she is definitely a baller!!

HD sure didn't look the same without big Bryce running around creating havoc on both sides of the ball. I really enjoyed watching that kid play, he was a gamer. Did he end up going anywhere to play?

He was definitely a bruiser in the backfield. I dont think he ended up going to play anywhere but I’m not 100% sure. Seemed like he had DII talent/ability.

Good luck to you guys and we’re gonna try to pull off a win in Evadale to make things interesting in district!

Best of luck the rest of season.

    Same to you guys.

I’ll tell you one thing, Bland was really good last year at TE/DE but in the backfield this year that kid is a beast. #8 is a workhorse as well. Excellent defensive scheme to have the Berry boys shadow Victorian and Lofton. Victorian is gonna make a few highlight reel plays (the kid is pretty dynamic) but other than a few of those plays, he was held in check most of the night. I’m honestly surprised that DV hasn’t performed better up to this point, they seem really close to last years squad (if not a tad more physical)

  9. I got logged out a few days ago and couldn’t remember my password.

As an HD fan, I definitely have an excuse for tonight’s loss….. Deweyville kicked our teeth in!! They were hands down the better TEAM. Much more physical and dominated in the trenches all night on both sides of the ball. HD showed some fight for about 3 quarters of play but they were outmatched, outcoached and outplayed.

Good luck Pirates on the rest of the season and Bobcats, learn from this loss and work harder.
