Has to make you wonder if he us such a great guy and coach why does he ALWAYS end up with dumpster jobs.....

Coldspring is definitely not a dumpster job in any stretch of the imagination but I do believe it's going to take a special coach to bring us out of the abyss.  Coach Barbay did it so it can be done.

They have discussed the turf field for a while. Turf conversion can typically be offset by reduction in maintenance cost. However, I don’t see how it could happen absent of a bond anytime soon. They may anticipate a correction with increased state funding in the future. That is just speculation on my part.

Well the guy they wanted basically said he will install it but pay it overtime (I think some guys out of Livingston) but we will see sometime after next season because "That's when they're supposed to start".

As often as Morrison has applied for other jobs, I can't believe no one has hired him yet. I know he was on the applicant list for another job in the Houston area a couple of years ago. Seems like a jam up coach and has done a great job at Diboll.

To be honest I wished he would have taken over the job for Barbay back then but things happen when egos get involved.

No doubt. And he would not have been able to bring them all because they have reduced positions and pay. CS does not currently have sufficient coverage for all coaching duties. Might be worse with all of the upcoming departures.

Idk if you saw it but sometime last month they got together at the school and they put this on Facebook live to talk about the estate of the school financially and they was going on and on about the athletic budget and these guys were on there talking about implementing turf on the field in the next few seasons.  If they're talking about do that how in the world are we going to pay for that if the budget is compromised?

Well sounds like Day was about as good of a realistic candidate as you were gonna get so no reason to get upset. That is unless there were other candidates that did apply that were willing to take that job that the community would've preferred. However it seems like a safe pick. A coach that was willing to come there knowing the difficulties and with HC experience. Although not the success you'd have like to have seen but he seems to have performed above the average at the schools he's coached at.

As far as I know there was 8 candidates but 2 of them I knew about personally and the 2 I just mentioned did apply and one was hired but looking at the budget we have we definitely made the right hire no matter how everyone else looked at it.

He is a very good coach indeed.  Eventually he will get that dream job he wants and his style of coaching will help that school tremendously.

Coach Morrison was not an option. The budget has never been as bad as it is at this moment. Stanley was knee capped repeatedly and unable to take necessary steps for the program to stabilize. Most potential candidates in the coaching community were aware of the situation and as a result steered clear of the situation.

Well I know you know more about it on that end then I do because of the connection you have to Coldspring for a bit but my cousin who has a classmate on the school board mentioned that he was in the running for the job but as you mentioned pay was an issue.  Don't know if that was true or not but that what I was told.

You are likely right. Will be among the weaker talent pools for CS standards in recent memory and will also be dealing with a district in financial free fall with no athletic budget.

Not to mention that I've been hearing rumors that Onalaska is supposed to be starting up their football program sometime in the near future... If that happens you can bet most of our guys and players from Livingston will go there leaving our program in a sad state of affairs.

The reality is the guy is very experienced at being as successful as possible at talent poor and money poor districts. According to some of the things I've read on Colmesneil, it sounds like he is the perfect man for this job.

Idk about that... Not saying we're anything to be bragging about since the state championship days but in Coldspring people expect you to win and win often.  Truth be told I didn't expect Coach Stanley to last as along as he did.  The budget has always been an issue since I was still in school there since the whole entire county is in poverty so to hire Coach Day was definitely the right move financially but as far as building a program back up to the prominence it once had they should have looked else or brought back Coach Morrison.
