I personally think that went they sent 4 teams to the state playoffs it completely watered it down.  Even though sometimes 4 beats 1...  It doesn't happen often enough to justify the more I think about it.  I've said before that it does but I'm starting to think differently about that.  3 was close to watered down but much better even though the number 1 seeds had a bye.  I'd be willing to bet that coaches/teams would rather have a light week of practice and heal or prevent injuries than to likely play a game that's going to end up being an embarrassment.  Or maybe not..who knows.  Perhaps that's the best chance to get the backups in the game in a "playoff" situation.

There has been a team go 0-10 (Houston Scarborough) and make the playoffs...think about that.  I know that overall records should have zero bearing on postseason but they didn't even win a district game.  The UIL should be ashamed of that.

I don't know the answer but playing more than one game in a week is not a good idea.  I think you would see an increase in injuries...even high school kids need to rest their bodies after a game as physical as football.  Even during a regular week of practice the players usually don't go full contact the last couple of practices before a game.  I joke about it but I think it's safe to say that at least 4 will be (should be) the max.  Won't be able to keep adding because in a high school football season you can only play a certain number of games.

I've often thought why not let coaches (for schools that did not make the playoffs) continue to practice their teams while there are playoff games going on...it would give them additional time to work on next year's squad..but then again I could see this being an issue with smaller schools where the basketball team depends on guys finishing up football to field a team...who knows what the answer is?...

The regular season does mean something.  To the top teams in the district, its a fight for a higher seed for to go further in the playoffs.  For the lesser teams, it is a chance to do something as a building block for the future.  It may be lackluster to make the 4th place spot, but some 3rd and 4th place teams to win, because they are in a tough district.

Also, youre telling me that if Warren made the 4th place spot you wouldn't be excited, or it'd just be whatever because 4 teams go and it's not a big deal?

I'd rather see it go back to two from each district...I agree having 4 teams go to the playoffs benefits schools like Warren, Hardin, Kountze, Vidor, Huntington, Tarkinton etc...etc...And if Warren got a 3rd or 4th spot I'd certainly be excited for  the kids...but in my opinion four from each district is too many... That was a money decision by the UIL no matter how they spin it to look otherwise..The system is what it is...I don't see them reducing the number now.

What does it say about our current UIL playoff system when we're talking about playoff locations and a 70-14 loss to a third place team in the same thread. I'm glad the Hardin club got to experience 7 wins, my hometown club hasn't won 7 games in years. My question is what's wrong with our playoff format?

My opinion is that it should have never expanded past two teams from each district...

55,383 was the official attendance today which was the lowest in the 7 years it’s been at JerryWorld.  Tickets and parking are way over priced.  I wish they would kill the neutral site deal or at least let A&M play at home then Arky can use jerryworld on their year.

    Yes please!

It is possible to say that a team is bad but not be pointing out or talking about any individual players.  This PC crap is infecting everything.

No PC card pulled here.. Calling a high school team bad is no issue.. calling a team toothless, no fight, no talent dogs is over the top in my opinion..Given your long track record of posting on here I'm sure you won't agree but whatever.. it's your opinion..I've said my piece ..

Its always apparent to me that people on the board come after Hardin posters about what they have or have not done over recent times, but I do not see anyone on this board coming after warren or anahuac lack of success, maybe because there's no warren or anahuac posters at all ? I think its all fun and good, but was just noticing this to be true.....heck maybe there aren't just but a couple warren/anahuac members on this website ?

There are a few Warren posters on this site. Not very vocal as we've been down for quite a while..I've pretty much moved away from making comments and now mostly just post scores...I think the reason you see folks bashing on Hardin more so than Warren and Anahuac is because a few Hardin folks like to claim playoff spots starting in July..They also claim automatic wins versus teams like Anahuac, Warren, Kountze etc. even though Hardin has a historically lower win percentage than these schools..I pull for underdogs so I hope Hardin, Warren and Anahuac someday turn things around and all become contenders at least. Those kids and towns could certainly use it!

i cant speak of anything in the past. i only know about hardin now......coming from evadale, i know a little about buna, kville but not others like ec or woodville much. i know thats a lost cause even thinking it will be close with those two. but i dont doubt hardin will be competitive with kville and anahuac just looking at the history and what we have now, vs what both programs have.....

it may be likely that hardin goes 3-7 or 4-6 like some believe. i just dont think thats going to be the case

I was in no way trying to come off as trash talking just stating that when teams look at upcoming season schedules they usually look at teams similar to themselves and think they have a solid shot at a win. Hopefully all teams can get through the year competitive and healthy..Good luck to Hardin...

I would venture most of the people teaching at the school are locals. No one is moving out there for that low pay. We need to fix school financing so small districts and the children in them don't get left behind. Our future success as a state and country depends on an educated workforce.

I agree with you...Very few people know how screwed up school funding is in Texas...It needs to be their #1 priority in the next Legislative session...but it won't.. They'll just keep kicking the can down the road ..

You’re absolutely right.  My post was not a condemnation of Nederland, I was taking a jab at the self righteous lowlife Supt. at Barbers Hill who ranted & raved about Vidor’s field because it was muddy after 3 days of monsoon rains.  Of course when you’re blessed with a tax base like Barbers Hill, you can afford artificial turf fields, new facilities, and an indoor practice area. Unfortunately, most school districts aren’t that blessed.

Btw, I agree 100% with you.  NISD Taxpayers are the only one who’s opinion matters.

Oh no I knew exactly what you were getting at. If anything it was in support of your sentiments.  We're in violent agreement! LoL!

No doubt in my mind, the Supt of Barbers Hill will not approve of Nederland’s football field. :)

I think the only opinions that matter are the NISD taxpayers... Obviously for whatever reason the majority didn't see the need, at that time, to pass the bond...If the three new board members can promote the need/sell it and get it passed then great but in the end you accept the will of the (majority) of the taxpayers.. whether you agree with it or not.. Doesn't matter what PNG, United, Vidor or any other fans think..It's always easy to spend others money...

  12. This is another consequence of what happens when the UIL doubles the number of teams in the playoffs...I still believe it should be limited to the top two (at most) in each district...I know it provides a lot of schools the chance to make the playoffs but IMO it waters down the achievement of those teams who challenge to be district champions...It's all about the $$ now....
